Best omakase in park slope! So nice to get quality fish in the neighborhood. Such a good steal for the quality. The fatty tuna, salmon, and mackerel are favorites!

This place is one of the best meals in the city. Go and pay for the highest quality omakase at the omakase bar and you will be thoroughly impressed.

Amazing appetizers and sushi… black miso cod to rival nobu. Will definitely be back to try their omakase! I appreciate that they offer high quality sushi at various price points, with standard sushi entrees and more high end omakases - quality sushi at different price points.

My friends and I got the sushi omakase and the food was excellent! The only thing is the tables are pretty tight from each other, I would def come back regardless! Food: 5 stars Service: 4 stars Ambience: 3 stars

Really good quality sushi and the omakase menu provides great options. The service was great and hospitable. This is a great sushi spot if you don’t want to travel into the Manhattan and want to stay in Brooklyn. And the price is amazing. You can probably find cheaper, but the quality won’t be as good. Definitely recommend bringing family and friends here if they enjoy sushi at a good price.

Omakase was reasonably priced but more importantly, their fish selection is very good and very fresh. We got many fish from Japan and fish that is not normally served elsewhere. Their Saba, sawara are all house cured and prepared and it is so good. I can't wait to go back to this place!

The consensus among reviews is that this is the best deal Omakase you will find in Brooklyn, and that service isn’t great. Both points deserve more explanations. First, there are a few Omakase options: the regular nigiri Omakase for $55, and the sashimi + nigiri for $75. They also have an open style Omakase mixing seasonal fish with some of the regular pieces. This last option is available at market price, which was $108 in our case for 12 pieces. We took the open style Omakase and didn’t regret it. The fish was super fresh with a smooth texture, something we haven’t been used to on the East coast (sorry!). The seasoning in each sushi was also original (seaweed, yuzu, scallions), which was more in line with what we expected from an Omakase. Special mention to the sea urchin, which is always hit-or-miss. In this case, it was excellent. One disappointing note though: in almost every sushi, the seasoning was slightly overpowering the dish, making it hard to taste all the subtlety of the fish. This imbalance was a problem, but despite this issue, the overall menu was quite good, and 12 sushis was enough for a dinner. As for the service, it was actually fine. Our waiter was nice, and described every sushi with lots of details. In the end, was it the best sushi of our life? No, but who cares, it was really good sushi, and definitely as good, if not better than some pretentious options that charge twice as much in Manhattan (*ahem Yasuda*).

Had a kanpachi collar app, and multiple nigiri from chūtoro to kohada and unagi. Pieces are on the smaller side, but the fish is perfectly cut and exceedingly delicious, seasoned appropriately and sumptuous. My only regret is not having more time to taste more of the menu. It's been a few years since I visited Katsuei and I'm just as happy as I was on my first visit.
