Good food and sake. Very busy restaurant but the service was still speedy. The spider roll was my favorite. Give them a try if you are in the city.
The service was excellent and restaurant had a line even on a Tuesday at 6pm. The food was however average, not bad but nothing to rave about. Tried the eggplant special, which was tasty. I got the Hibino sushi plate. The seafood was fresh, but the futomaki had very little seafood and was mostly rice. Also the rice under the sushi did not stick together well. I have been to a number of sushi restaurants and this was down the list for quality. Again, not bad for a neighborhood place, but would not go out of my way to come here. Have to admit, not much better in the area for sushi, however.
Fantastic. Wow. Gotta love this place....quality Japanese fare, daily obanzai dishes (tapas-style) $5, amazingly fresh sushi. The service was very friendly. Will definitely come back next time I'm in Brooklyn!
Obanzi are excellent and good value. The sushi is very fresh and served at the proper temperature and obviously very fresh. Food si very decently priced as well
Exquisite homemade tofu and sparklingly fresh fish make this brkln secret a must-eat
There is a large menu with appetizers, salads, entrees and Daily Obanzi, Japanese-style tapas. We ordered a mix of everything, with mixed results. I started with the Kamo Salad with duck, mizuna, daikon and carrot in a shiso dressing. The pieces of duck w
This hidden gem in Cobble Hill has one of the best sushi in the city. The pieces come very fresh and the rice is properly seasoned. It’s pricier than the typical sushi in a standard Japanese restaurant but you’ll get the premium quality of a high-end sushi place without the high prices.
The variety of daily “obanzai” dishes keep me coming back; one day I had fried Salmon balls and another day it was a house-made tofu dish. Easily the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Brooklyn, if not the city.
And thank god the menu doesn’t have the sauce-laden rice-bombs-with-barely-any-seafood monstrosity people call “sushi” nowadays.
This small neighborhood gem has been around for years and I've visited a few times for lunch and dinner. The food is consistently good and high quality, made with fresh ingredients. They've developed such a local following that you can always expect a line of patrons waiting to dine.
This time I went with cousins who are near weekly regulars. Their trick is to visit Hibino midweek before the restaurant opens to ensure immediate seating. We waited for about 20 minutes before they opened their doors and were the last group of people to enter before they were completely full.
My cousin always gets the Grilled Salmon Collar Bento and raved about it, so the rest of us got the same and promptly cleaned them out of their stock of salmon collars. One of us had to choose a different menu item, so the Beef Short Ribs was selected. We also ordered some tuna and uni sushi to start.
Everything we ordered had good flavors and textures, and gave me comfort food vibes. It was like eating Japanese home cooking, but what also stands out is how fresh everything tastes. The high quality ingredients and freshness is apparent in every bite, and I think this is what keeps people coming back for more. I daresay they'll make a regular out of me too.
It's no wonder why Hibino is always so packed - the sushi is simply outstanding! We had the tuna tataki salad to start, which was flavorful and generous enough for two. We also shared a sushi special, along with two pieces of heavenly toro. The fried eel roll was scrumptious without being greasy or heavy. And to top off the evening, we enjoyed a Cloudy House sake that was not too sweet. All in all, it was a delicious date night experience that reminds one why they fell in love with this restaurant in the first place. Highly recommended!
Great quality sushi and good portions. It gets busy in the evenings so would recommend booking or waiting - well worth it.
The food was very good and I really enjoyed it. I had the chef's choice sushi platter served with miso soup and salad. The service was good but short people as far as I could tell. I arrived first of my party and was told to wait outside till the rest of the party arrived. It was over 90 degrees outside and there was plenty of room for me to stand in the AC. When my party showed up 3 minutes later we were asked to wait outside while the table was cleared, we didn't. It took a minute because they were short handed, we understood, but we weren't waiting outside in the heat. Lost a star for that. Otherwise the service was good once seated. I'd go back again.
Everything was awesome. One of my favorites from the menu was the shira-ae. Basically blanched green veggies with a bit of salt and a tofu sauce. The tofu sauce was delicious, and different than any tofu I had ever experience. This dish was very mild and nuanced, and you could really just sink into the flavors. The agedashi tofu was also excellent. “Hibino” as I understand, means “daily.” As in the ingredients are prepared daily, and I will attest that everything tasted fresh. The sushi is also excellent, the yellowtail jalapeño was among my favorites. I imagine this is what a great restaurant in Kyoto tastes like. Our server was great too. She explained the dishes, to us and made some great recommendations. I look forward to going back there.
The lunch menu is great with a variety of plates. The dining room is quiet and nice but the staff want you stay outside when you are waiting for your friend and want you to leave very fast so not really client oriented.
dined on a tuesday at 6pm with my husband and a toddler— easy to get a table. service is attentive and the food is *excellent*. high quality, great portion size— the rice in the sushi roll is perfect temp and seasoned beautifully. the size of the sashimi in the roll is unprecedented! the salmon roll had fat, fluffy pieces of salmon spilling out of it. my toddler ate up all the edamame and the grilled salmon. we can’t wait to go back.
They are busy here but the food is very good and the host is so nice. He gave me some tea when my date took a while to show up and he helped me get a soy sauce stain out of my shirt. A+
Really enjoyed my meal here. I would say this is a more modern take on Japanese food. They have the usual that you would expect but a fantastic specials menu where you can tell someone is taking care and effort. I love Japanese food and this was a refreshing place to go out of the normal spicy tuna roll spots.
