Review Karczma Polish Restaurant - Brooklyn

If you want to try Polish cuisine, this is a good place in NYC. There are not many Polish restaurants left. I haven't visited this place for a long time and I noticed some changes for the better (probably the cook changed). I recommend the white borscht in bread, it's good and worth trying. The service is nice and During the week you don't have to wait long for a table. You can also get a beer or a drink and eat outside.

We arrived at noon and there was no wait for a party of 7 without a reservation. We ordered the grilled plate for three, plate of polish specialties, stuffed cabbage, hunters stew, roasted hocks, and white borscht. I really enjoyed the plate of polish specialties because it is a sizable portion of all the things you should try. The grilled plate for three was also a good opportunity to try the different types of meat. I didn't think I would enjoy the stuffed cabbage, but it had a light flavor with really tasty tomato sauce. The white borscht was also delicious. The roasted hocks were solid. I wasn't a fan of the hunters stew because it had a sour taste. The amount of food you get for the price is insane. This restaurant offers incredible value. My only complaint is that the food was really salty and I was constantly drinking water, eating the mashed potatoes, and using the sauces to cut the saltiness.

I have come here a few times and tried different dishes that they have. My favorite is the white borscht served in bread. For $8 you get a tasty soup with sausage and egg served in a hardy roll. The bread absorbs the soup and so, when the soup is eaten, the bread left over is delicious, too. Most people will not have much room for an entree after that. The atmosphere is great. There is plenty of room as they have big tables and seats. Service is quick and the establishment is well staffed with polite servers.

Coming to this restaurant is a Family Tradition going back to my childhood. It was so nostalgic to walk through the doors. The atmosphere & Decor still authentic!! The food is AMAZING....everyone's dinner was absolutely DELICIOUS!! Wish I lived closer so I could go more often!! 10 out 10 Recommend this Restaurant!!

I found myself alone at dinner time in Brooklyn. The ratings for pierogies at this place were good so I took off to find it. It was just a little bit out-of-the-way, but quite easy to find. The atmosphere was very lively. There was a sizable party there Celebrating someone’s birthday. I had the fried pierogies( 3 meat, 3 potato and cheese) they were very filling and had a great texture. I also had the mushroom soup which was rich without being overpowering. I got the feeling I could’ve been in Poland.

The Poles have a hearty palate! This place did not disappoint and was as good as the best in Krakow or Warsaw. The carrot salad with horseradish was phenominal! My first time ever with a Polish lager - recommended!

I loved this place as it took me back to Central Europe with its vibe and atmosphere! We came here with friends on recommendation and enjoyed every little bit of our experience. The staff was friendly, attentive, witty and with a great sense of humor, which is, for me, a good first sign of a customer-oriented restaurant. The variety of European beers was huge, mainly Polish beers, but I was ecstatic when I found Czech Pilsner on the menu! However the local delicacy is the hot cider with cinnamon and red mulled wine - typically served during winter months but here I was able to enjoy it in the middle of March! The food was great, really well prepared and the way it is supposed to be (at least in Europe). It is truly original central European cuisine! The white borscht in bread was delicious despite the fact it was a rather small portion, but the Roasted Hocks in beer was huge! And super tasty, like I said, original to its core. I found the prices of meals and drinks very reasonable - main dishes were between $15 to $20. Toilets were clean and tidy despite the fact the restaurant was crowded. Overall if you want to try Polish food, come here, you wont regret it. I know I will come back! Paid by card. Visited in March 2023.

Very good polish food! Delicious and tasty. As a polish person I can really recommend this restaurant.

Extremely hearty food best on a cold day when you are very hungry. Not the greatest options for vegetarians unless you love pierogis, but worth it. Nothing is vegan on this menu, not even the peirogis without meat or cheese. Decor is very tavern with no natural light like a casino. Overall fun like a Polish theme park if such a thing existed.

We forgive the Polish for not making “real” Ukrainian borscht. What is life without variety? Peasant style lard as an appetizer is dedication and doubling down to the medieval atmosphere. A rare and magical place, all the way to the begonias in the covid hut.

Excellent place for authentic Polish food in New York City. The essence of the place is pleasing, and the decor of the place feels like if you were in Poland. I shared a grilled platter with my friend, it offered a great sample with different polish cured meat, and the portion is satisfying. It's hard to find a place that is great in both quality and quantity like this in the city.

This is one of my favorite spots when I’m craving Polish food. Just stepping in here is like traveling to Poland, between the homey decor and all the staff speaking Polish to one another. All the food is excellent - covering all the traditional Polish menu items one would expect. It’s also a great value and very very filling. I guarantee you’ll not leave this place hungry!

The food was very good and the service was even better. It's a little dark in spots, but it's basically a pub atmosphere. The pierogi are good, but if you ask for them to be fried, expect them to be deep fried, not pan-fried. We didn't know that, so they were different than we are used to. They also serve them boiled. The potato pancakes are huge, and the portions of all their food items are pretty large, so bring your appetite!

I visited this place with the intent to relive some of my early childhood food memories growing up in Germany. As an appetizer I had the pork lard with bread and pickles. I know, eating lard just sounds wrong, but it tasted so right. Then I opted for the Polish sampler plate and was once again met with a flavor experience i was longing for. The only thing I didn't care for was the stuffed cabbage. It had a flavor completely foreign to me and I couldn't find a way to like it. Nonetheless, I was very happy with my overall experience and look forward to trying more dishes soon.

This place was very good! Let’s start with the ambiance, though over the top, it was fun. Their polish food was very good and had large portions. I grew up on many of these dishes and it is always worth the trip to Greenpoint. The staff was also friendly and attentive. Especially the male server with the blonde coloured hair whose name I believe starts with a g. Sorry, I forget names often but not faces. Will definitely go back when he is there. I highly recommend this place for anyone who enjoys good food.

Came here on a Friday night. I ordered the plate for two. It's a lot of food. All the chicken, steak, and sausage was great. Bacon was a little salty. I also ordered the polish specialties. That was great too. They had a performance, two guys singing and playing a woodwind instrument. I would definitely come back. Everything was awesome. Nice decor. We got our food quickly. Lots of tables. Service was excellent.

An authentic Polish restaurant with a typical decoration and Polish music. The selection of beers and drinks is excellent and the menu is varied, we really enjoyed the food even though some of the dishes were a bit salty for our taste. The price is fair and the service is friendly.

The food here is so good. This is my go-to restaurant when I want to treat myself with some good comfort food. Everything I have ordered from here is fresh and delicious. My favorite is the stuffed cabbage with a side of their sauerkraut. They have a big dining room and the service is quick. Make sure you’re hungry when you go here because the portions are big.

You can't go wrong by coming here for some authentic Polish meal at a really good value. If there is a wait, start your meal by the bar; they will be happy to move you to a table later. The cocktail list was very interesting - while they were tasty, they all tend to be on the sweeter side (Karczma's Apple Pie, Nutcracker, Greenpoint). The two of us shared the following: White Borscht, Plate of Polish Specialties, Grilled Blood Sausage, and Cucumber Salad. The portions were very generous, so start small to not over overstuff yourself. Everything was delicious, and we were so glad to find a well made blood sausage dish in NYC.

This place's food was truly an eye-opener for me, and I'm going to be looking for more Polish food in the future when I can find it. The restaurant was referred to me by a Polish wine salesman at a Brooklyn wine store. He said it's the only place where "really good" Polish food with good sit-down service and a good price can be found. He was right. Their entire restaurant was completely booked, and we had to wait about 20 minutes (not bad for NYC). Our table was in the back close to the kitchen. Our server was a very attractive blond Polish woman who was very patient with our kids and honest about the food quantity we ordered (too much, really). The food was amazing, and the beer recommendation with it was top-flight. The pickle soup was rockstar, and the hunter's bacon was a salty starter that went well with the beer. The sausages were delicious, with the blood sausage coming in first place (truly delectable). The grilled plate for three is really a grilled plate for eight or so. IT'S HUGE. So, don't order it unless there's five or more at your table. Seriously. Go to this place and experience it. It's really wonderful.

I don't only hate this place, but I'll close it if I could. Food is terrible, slow service, and the most strange thing I found is the "good" reviews I found for this place!! Who are they trying to fool?? Obviously they are fake reviews. I'm not polish as anyone can see, but trust me , I've visited Poland many times and also try actually good polish restaurants in the city, which are few that can actually capture the polish and the flavor. I want to conclude that this place is far from being the best polish restaurant in New York, so to all those fake reviews, let me Tell you one thing; you might be able to fool some people, but not the onces who really knows the polish food and this place doesn't have to right to be called a polish restaurant.

Good service but not the best food. Planned a feast after a long time away from home so had a wide variety of foods: Pierogi, Sausage (awful), golabki, smalec, placki ziemniaczane, bigos and oscypek and all of it but smalec was below average. Ruskie Pierogi didn't have much taste to them (not seasoned at all), pierogis with meat were very good, no idea what the kielbasa was made of but it tasted like a rubber sole, bigos was horrible, smalec and gluhwine were by far the best. Overall, very disappointed with the food, should have gone to Veselka downtown but thought this was more authentic...

Authentic polish cuisine. Pickle soup is bae :) I also ordered the polish specialties so I was able to sample the pierogis, stuffed cabbage, hunters stew and kielbasa. The stuffed cabbage is some of the best I've ever had. Really delicious! They have mulled wine and mulled beer as well. I wish I lived in the neighborhood so I could be a regular!

Great service, delicious food and generous portions for a very reasonable price. We had potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage with pierogi and sauerkraut, pork chops, kielbasa with bigos and white borscht that was delicious and service with mashed potatoes sprinkled with bacon on the side!

The service was excellent and the food was delicious and well prepared. The beer on draft selection was limited, but it complimented the food very well. The bartender was friendly and helped me choose a wonderful beer.

Awesome food. Best Polish food I had. The only downside is the wait time. Waited 2.5 hours. That don't take reservations. but it was worth the wait.
