Bansari and her love for Italian food made us go here all the way to the Bronx. .
The ambience is very good and the food was enjoyable too.
Not inexpensive but then....
The place has a very busy routine customer base so go prepared to wait.

Unmatched food, service and ambiance. The real Little Italy is in the Bronx. The one in Manhattan is now just for tourists.
Most of the good Italian restaurants are in the Bronx or Brooklyn now. My husband confirmed that we did go to Roberto's once but we did not take pictures and though it was just fine, it did not blow me away. It was not that memorable.
Having said all of that, yes I like good Italian food. Been to Italy before, but I was broke and was visiting a friend and did not go out. We ate in Italian homes. I am not an expert in Italian food but I have had my share and
Trattoria Zero Otto Nove is one of the best Italian meals I have had. I have been there several times and usually on my birthday.
First my apologies to the owner. He was there cooking in the kitchen. Roberto came out of the kitchen to speak to the hostess. He greeted me and it took a few minutes to process who he was. By that time he went back to the kitchen. I asked the hostess, was that the owner/ chef? She said yes. Forgive me I have been though a lot and I don't usually recognize people from pictures. My husband was parking other wise he would have recognized him from the web site.
So because of that exchange I peaked into the kitchen which was clean. I do not like dirty kitchens. I have been to restaurants that try to appear clean and you look in the kitchen and it is dirty. The kitchen was very clean! He was pleasant and the staff was not scared of him but seemed to like him. And he was cooking the entrees. So he is not a fancy pants chef he is the real deal.
I ended up here looking for good Italian food which I only eat in cold weather usually and I am usually disappointed. Not tonight. This is not old school New York or some fake Italian American like Carmine's or fusion like Babo. This is real Italian cuisine.
Since the owner was cooking the entrees and a small group of assistants were making pizza it explains my disappointment in the pizza. I also pretty much only like NY pizza.
It is just a matter of taste. It was not bad but my taste buds are trained in the old school New York way. This is Italian pizza and I just prefer NY pizza there are very few old school NY pizzerias left. Most people will have no idea what I am talking about unless they are over 40.
But that is just me. And we are going back for sure and will only order entrees and appetizers and desserts which were some of the best I have had!
Now onto what we ordered. We had meat balls because my Chinese husband who grew up cooking and eating Chinese food has a fascination with meat balls and always orders them. (he finds them to be different from the Chinese he grew up on) I am pretty bored with meat balls I grew up eating them. However these are by far the best meat balls I have ever had, ever!
It is on the menu as Polpettine, Polenta & Caprino small meat balls, spicy tomato sauce, polenta & goat cheese
The meat balls were meaty the sauce was rich, chunky and savory.
We had a Cornish Hen with vegetables and crispy potatoes. The Cornish Hen was crispy and delicious.
Dessert was a stand out I hate to use words like epic or divine they are so over used but really the dessert was epic and divine! We had Fragole la Romana, strawberries and fresh cream layered with Pavesini biscuits. I forgot about my pain during our meal there!
Service is always professional , the food is great and the ambiance romantic!
And the ambiance is so wonderful and romantic! By far some of the best Italian food I have had in NY in years!
If any tourists are reading this, skip the little facade known to tourists as Little Italy and head to Arthur Avenue for some real Italian food!

Best Pizza State Wide. Of all the pizza I have tried in NYC, arthur ave's zero otto nove finishes above the rest. My favorite is the quattro formaggi. These combination of cheeses is simply the best. A can't miss.

Delicious. I had just arrived to the Bronx after a very long day of layovers to meet a friend for dinner. The service was charming. I had a traditional Pizza Margherita and I let the server choose the wine for me. The crust was reminiscent of Napoli and the wine was prudently chosen.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing. You expect to walk into a small room with a bar, but are led into a space reminiscent of a Venetian Palace.

I live in this neigborhood. Right in the heart of Little Italy, Arthur Avenue, there are three pizzerias, but Zero Otto Nove is by far the best. And don't get it wrong , this is not your everyday corner street pizza joint! Just by standing in front of their shop you wouldn't be able to tell it's a pizza place. You can even book a private room for a small private party!

Coming in off the busy Bronx streets you are transported to Italia. You walk past the bar and down a tunnel like hallway that opens up into a charming dining area that resembles a piazza in Italy. We got there right at opening so there were only a few tables with patrons and while the service was very attentive, what I didn't like is that the waiters who don't have any tables yet , stand around sort of eyeing everyone, it's a little unnerving. As it got busier it wasn't so much a problem. We wanted to eat light since I had goodies from the local shops that I was bringing home to indulge on. I ordered the arugula salad and the Le San Matteo pizza, which is fresh mozzarella, sausage, and brocollirabe, the pizza arrived fast, very fast, not sure how they cook it that fast (they use coal fired ovens for the pizza) but nonetheless it was delicious. The crust is light and airy and thin on the bottom with a bubble edge to it. A nice glass of red wine rounded out the meal. My companion had the straccciatella zucchine e uova (egg drop soup with zucchini) and the insalata carrino e pera (mixed greens with goat cheese & sliced pear), he said everything was delicious. So even though I only had a salad and pizza I would rate this place a dieci (10). I plan on going back to try more things off the enticing menu.

Gorgeous & delicious.... Artisan pies from a coal-fired oven in the heart of the Bronx's Little Italy have addicted loyal patrons from all over the city & beyond. The reason to stay for an extra glass of vino, however, is the architecture. Stroll down a replica of a Salerno alley to a glorious Italian courtyard. After, jump across the street to the Italian Market, or snag a cannoli from one of the many superb bakeries.

The pizzas are made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and cooked to perfection in the wood-fired oven. The pasta dishes are hearty and flavorful, and the seafood is always fresh. The service is excellent, and the staff is always happy to make recommendations. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the restaurant is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Great place to go for Italian food in the Bronx. The pizzas, pasta dishes, and seafood are all excellent, and the service is top-notch. If you're looking for a delicious and authentic Italian meal, Zero Otto Nove is the place to go.

Easily some of the best mozzarella I've ever had. Straightforward, tasty Italian fare. A bit noisy but excellent service and food.

What a great Arthur Avenue experience we recently had at Zero Otto Nove. The brand has expanded over the years, but the heart still beats in the Bronx’s Little Italy. The restaurant is cavernous and seems to stretch forever -- but still feels homey because it is laid out over a series of smaller rooms. Our server was delightful – knowledgeable and friendly. We arrived in a larger party with two small kids, and our server knew we needed to get food on the table quickly. We started with the Diavola pizza – absolutely scrumptious with creamy mozzarella blending with hot sopressata. Then we shared a veal parm, Radiatori con Brasato (short ribs with cherry peppers and parm), and the huge pork chop with cheery peppers. Portions were generous and all three dishes were exceptional. The short ribs and the veal parm were particularly good. Note that the veal parm is not on the menu, but absolutely worth asking for and our server was glad to make it for us. The pork chop was perfectly fine, but overshadowed by the other dishes. We did not have time for desserts – but they did look amazing!

Such a little gem in the Bronx. The pizza is incredible. Unique combinations like sweet potato puree with mushrooms and trifles, and classics like four-cheese. And everything is mind blowingly good. We went when they first opened so it was empty and the food came out quickly. But the caccio peppe with artichoke is simply divine. Absolutely recommend. And the staff are incredibly sweet and attentive.

This is my favorite restaurant on Arthur Ave. it has a great atmosphere that I feel is a bit more updated than some of the other restaurants. The pizzas are perfection and last time I had a fig and prosciutto ravioli special that I hope they add to the menu. It was delicious. The staff is attentive and it is reasonably priced. Highly recommend

I went to get dinner with my girl friend. We ordered a Margarita and calamari ink pasta. My friend does not eat a lot but we finished all. The pizza is really light and fresh. And the pasta was also really good.

Skip the insanity of Manhattan's Little Italy and head to The Bronx. This restaurant is a great place to start. The food and service is great, and the decor gives it an old-world vibe.

Stopped by for lunch and was seated fairly quickly . I tried - mafalde in cartaccio: served warm and had delicious pesto sauce with burrata - Quattro formaggio pizza : all the cheese were delicious and the base was crispy - tiramisu -aperol spritz The interior was lovely and feels like you’re in a little town in Italy. Food was incredible and authentic.
