This was the best place we have been to in this area. This restaurant is farm to table and you can really taste the high quality local ingredients here!! Cocktails were really good too. Very innovative menu items you won’t see food combinations like this in any other restaurant, for example raisins and capers with the tuna or cardamom in the cocktail. Very crazy good. Highly suggest to dine here if you’re in the area
My wife and I had a wonderful meal a couple nights ago. Great cocktails! She had a beet salad and Maine Lobster "Bolognese.”
I did the tasting menu- truffled kale Caesar salad, the lobster Bolognese, halibut, and carrot- less parsnip carrot cake- with the wine pairing.
Great meal- excellent service- thanks, Kristin! Highly recommend.
I contracted Salt & Steel to cater my 100-person wedding in September 2022. We knew Salt & Steel was known for excellent food and prioritized using fresh, local ingredients. When my fiancé and I initially met with Kim & Bobby (the owners) they were so helpful answering our questions and offering their professional advice and insights.
We gave Chef Bobby an idea of our vision and he put together the most amazing menu! We were blown away with the effort and care that was taken to make our day so special. Our guests raved about the food! It was also so wonderful to work with someone who was so knowledgeable about food allergies and dietary restrictions. We had multiple guests who had nut, shellfish, dairy, gluten & soy allergies or were vegan/vegetarian but because everything was made in-house from scratch, we were able to safely accommodate all of our guests.
If you are looking for someone to cater or host a special event, I definitely recommend Salt & Steel!
Service & environment are great!
Bread, Bisque, & Octopus are excellent!!
Kale salads is a bit too tough & bitter. Maybe tender soft baby kale could be better.
Lobster Bolognese is a bit too salty & hard for me.
Overall, it is a great experience to dine in there! Better get a reservation!
I can't find a reason to give Salt & Steel any less than 5 stars. The Lobster Bolognese was impeccably cooked, as was the duck. The oysters and cocktails were pitch-perfect as well. The atmosphere is warm and classy, but in no way pretentious. Wonderful and attentive staff as well. On the way out, we met a couple from Manhattan who was raving about the experience. I can easily recommend S&S as it was the best food experience I've yet to have in Bar Harbor.
Very nice restaurant. Food was excellent. My cod was very good. Only complaint was it could have been hotter. It was warm but very tasty. My wife’s Moroccan chicken pasta dish was unique and very good
I had a four roses bourbon martini that had a smoky aroma. However, it was a bit sweet for my taste.
Service and waitress were excellent
We sat in the dining room which I recommend. Deck is a bit too rustic for this type of menu. Bar looked okay for lunch but a bit cramped. Dining room was very nice.
They push their 4 course tasting menu. We passed on that and stayed basic
Wonderful little place. Visited fir our 10th wedding anniversary, and it did not disappoint. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings. Everything was wonderful. Great cocktails, too!
I've been here twice now and it's been one of my favorite high-end restaurants anywhere, let alone in Bar Harbor. We get their tasting menu which includes appetizer, pasta dish, main course, and dessert for $90. Their cocktails are also delicious and innovative. The wait staff is very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. I really loved their sinfonia agridulce cocktail, and their seafood pasta was out of this world.
Great food and service. Customize your own testing menu and enjoy some home made pasta and fresh farm to table food. Drinks are great too
Really enjoyed this restaurant. We did tasting menu which though they say it is smaller portions it was plenty of yummy food for 2 people to share. Cocktails were delicious and outdoor seating area was relaxing. Waitress was very attentive and answered our questions about dishes. Favorite was the Hake ragu, summer corn risotto, and burrata. Yum!
