Taqueria La Playa Ii

Taqueria La Playa is a hidden gem. It doesn't get any critical acclaim that I've ever seen, but it is irreplaceable for those who appreciate authentic Mexican food. My husband spent his childhood in Mexico, and searched for YEARS for authentic limonada. He never found it until La Playa. The look on his face when he takes his first sip is priceless. It's like he's a little kid again. For my part, I love the horchata - the best I've found in Austin so far. We've tried the tacos and I enjoy the enchiladas verdes. It's good. The people are friendly. It is what it is and we love it.

I've been several times mostly when i had to fix my car across the street, now for experiences this place roughly falls either black or white. When they're good, it's amazing, when they're bad... They're horrible. For example The menudo is generously portioned with everything and has a rich flavor, it is filling and delicious too. The drinks overall are large and refills are never an issue, servers tend to keep an eye on you since the restaurant is small. Pro's Generous servings, phenomenal prices that are reasonable, and they're bilingual. Con's Some of the server staff can be, lazy... My bad experience was when I was getting my car worked on across the street, I've eaten here several times before so figured i'd stop in. Now I went earlier for breakfast and my service was good overall at least fair to say. When I returned later during lunch I received virtually no service... I sat down, I got my order taken and as soon as the server dropped my food off, she did absolutely nothing for the remainder of my time there. I did not get a single refill, she did not bother to ask me if there was anything else I would like to eat, she failed to do what a lot of restaurants with decent servers do, up sell items off the menu. I still tipped her, but felt as some who worked in the service industry I should have left a penny behind as a representation of her service. The place is a 2.5/ it's a good place with good prices food is pretty basic like most Mexican restaurants, not many items stick out and leave a lasting impression. But it's good for someone with a hardy appetite that wants to avoid fast food.
