When I lived at Soco Lofts I would frequent Flacos. Not just because of the proximity, but more so due to the quality of food. Here’s tip to live by; a sure way to measure the caliber of a Mexican food restaurant is by the tortillas. If they use store bought tortillas then they most likely will not be good; homemade tortillas shows that they care about their product and what they’re selling. Flacos not only has homemade flour, but also corn tortillas. This is huge!
I usually visited during breakfast and had breakfast tacos. They have a good selection of various breakfast tacos and plates. You cannot go wrong with chorizo and egg tacos or Baracoa. The guacamole is made fresh and no added salt; you taste they used fresh avocados. They’re salsa also fresh and has a kick to it. The coffee is run of the mill, but then again you’re not at Starbucks.
Flacos angle is that they offer healthier varieties of Mexican cooking. They boil some of the meats, use egg whites and offer vegetarian options. However, if you want your greasy Tex-Mex they have it too.
The décor is nothing special; has the feeling of an old dinner. The wait staff is nice and attentive; sometimes understaffed. Nonetheless, if you live nearby and are craving some good breakfast tacos; I would check it out. It’s way better than the other place down the corner; don’t go there.
One of my favorite hole in the wall little mexican spots in town; no frills but cheap good mexican stuff; if you want something healthy they have it; if you want typical unhealthy/greasy mexican, they have it. My favorite is the soy rizo taco (very tasty chorizo alternative) and/or the nopalito taco, yummy!!! The decor is good tyipical hole in the wall, if you dont like that then i would rate it as poor
great hole in the wall spot
