The chicken fried steak was just okay for me, but that's not my go to entree. The company was better than the grub. Mary was very polite and gave us some cookies and a sample of her apple cobbler on the house. Would visit again.

Came here to meet up with some friends and we had a pleasant time hanging out, spoke to Ross himself and enjoyed some LIVE music here as well.
Definitely worth coming back when you want a simple meal in a comfortable atmosphere.

Nice old mom and pop type cafe. Order when you first walk in. Portion sizes are HUGE! had fried fish with fries and husband had chili cheese burger. Everything is homemade and delicious.

I came to Ross' for the first time today at lunch. I have driven by here before for years and seen multiple cars here in the morning for breakfast. On occasion I have seen multiple cop cars here eating. My general rule is if cops are congregating at a restaurant for food it must be decent. Today I had the chicken fried steak, today's special. I was told it is what they are known for. It did not disappoint! It wasnt overly huge to where I felt miserable. It was just right. The green beans were flavorful. And th mash potatoes had the texture of homemade mashed potatoes. The food was great. I will be back and most likely become a regular. I recommend this place for lunch.

The service was great my waitress was very friendly. Biscuits and gravy was good only needed a touch of salt. The breakfast taco was awesome. I didn't see that they had menudo when I walked in and I was offered a free sample. I didn't get any fixings with it but I was not disappointed. It was very flavorful and a little spicy just how I like be it. The meat in it was cut into small chunks like i prefer. Would definitely visit again. Also they have a lot of hot sauces to choose from. Also they had pozole.

We love this place. We chatted with Luisa on the outdoor patio on our last visit. She is wonderfully personable and the food is amazing! There is a little stage on the patio for outdoors concerts. I wish I'd taken a picture of my chicken fried steak. It was REALLY good! Very good food, great local Austin vibe.

Parking is limited. Quiet atmosphere. Staff is friendly and very helpful. You can either pick up your order at the window or someone will bring it to your table (with 2 young boys, that helped a lot). The BLT is totally awesome. The kids meal burgers are big. We could have split one for the boys. But this was our first time to eat here. Fries are homemade and good. The boys enjoyed the open windows in the dining area. They made friends with other diners.
Restaurant is a bit difficult to find if you aren't familiar with the area.

The food was good but it was a little more expensive than i thought. The shrimp was good. The baked potato was a little small. The bowls for the salad bar are a little small as well so you don't really get to fill up on the salad bar. It's too bad because they have so many options on the salad bar but because you get such a small bowl, you can't really try all of them.

I'm in from Minnesota for a couple of days of business. I stopped by today for what I thought would be a quick burger, nothing special. But what I found was probably the single best burger I have ever had. PLUS, great fresh cut fries and a real cozy atmosphere!! The waiter was more than helpful, fun and concerned that we had a great meal. I would HIGHLY recommend this place, PLUS music on Thursday Nights!

Bad place to eat. I went there three times. First two times, it was good. Then new owner or management came and their service went downhill. Now they don't care about the customers. Super rude! Food quality also went bad. I ordered medium steak and it looked stale. When I told them, they didn't care and told me it looks fine. I had their steak two times before and it was always good. And now they have this condescending attitude that is disgusting! With that attitude and service, I will never go there. Stay away! I would post 0 if I could. With that customer service, you guys won't do good business. Lost one customer. Bye!

We have been here 3 times since we moved to Austin 2 weeks ago, so that tells you something! We are SO glad we found this place! Laid back, casual, family friendly, good home cooking, nothing fancy. Just friendly people and country/bluegrass live music that varies. We are in our 50's and like the vibe here a lot. The steaks were tender, well seasoned and prepared just right with grilled onions; the burgers were juicy and fresh with all the fixins, and the chicken fried steak light and crispy. I'm not a fan of chicken fried steak, but the owner Luisa let us try some fresh out of the kitchen and I was super impressed! Not heavy or greasy at all. The pecan pie was stellar. Not too sweet or runny. My husband is in LOVE with the peach cobbler, which sells out fast. Tonight we had chocolate cake, which was fresh, moist and had plenty of frosting. There was a casual group of 9 musicians on various instruments which was a delight to listen to! All the staff are a joy to be around. This will be our new "go to" place.

Great home-cookin and friendly service!. I loved this place and can not wait to go back! I had the CFS and mashed potatoes (which was the special). Really was a good change from chain restaurants. Everyone was so nice. Going to try the breakfast soon. :)

We tried the burgers based on many strong recommendations, and were wholly unimpressed. The food was overcooked, and not the best quality. It was also expensive, based on the quality of the food. If you decide to eat here, perhaps try something other than a burger... or try a different place altogether.

The people were incredibly nice, and there were clearly a lot of regulars there, but our food was just not that good. We both got lunch specials, but my catfish and fries were both undercooked and my friend's pork tenderloin was way overbooked. At $12 for the lunch special and tea, we were disappointed. Maybe it was just an off day.

Im 99% sure the Chicken fried steak was frozen. I read so many good reviews about their awesome southern food and it wasn't what I expected. The salad bar was nice though. Friendly staff too.

Best southern place ever. This place was fantastic. It was a small cafe where you order up front and they bring you your food. Everyone was friendly and it had a family owned small town feel to it, even though you are in the middle of a city. All the food was fantastic and very inexpensive, especially the chicken fried chicken.

Wonderful Food, Atmosphere and Service. I LOVE eating at Ross's Old Austin Cafe! If you like good homestyle cooking you need to eat at Ross's Old Austin Cafe. They have the best grilled chicken, hamburgers and homemade soups I have eaten in a long time. The customer service is GREAT! Ross and Steven make you feel like family and right at home. I recommend Ross's to all my friends andhave definitely put it at the top of my list.

Best Damn Service Around. These people all greeted me and my friends with smiles and handshakes. Everyone talked to you like you were an old friend instead of a customer. <br/>The Salad Bar is small, but one of the best around. There wasn't really anything that I was lacking once I loaded my plate down with delicious veggies. I had the Fired Catfish Platter that comes with a baked potato (or fries), Texas Toast, and a generous portion of fried catfish. I almost didn't finish it, and had it not been so good I wouldn't have pressed on. I would recommend this to anyone.

It was my birthday and I yearned for the tastes of home in Tulsa. One of the best things in the world is a chili-cheeseburger from Ron's Hamburgers. It's a masterpiece to behold. A large but thin burger with a big slice of cheese sits inside a toasted bun with mustard, pickles and onions. Then they ladle on 8 ounces of their world famous chili over the top and filling the plate. Now that's how you make a chili-cheeseburger. Alas, that very plate cannot be found anywhere in Austin. At best they might add a dollop of chili on the burger like an extra slice of tomato. That's not a chili-cheeseburger. The closest thing I've found in Austin is Ross' Old Austin Cafe and there are many other reasons to try this restaurant aside from the good burgers and tasty chili. Do you like country music? They have live bands at Ross' and they're good. Steph and I like to go on Tuesday night when they have a band that plays what I'll call classic country music.
