Been looking for a place to get a good chicken fried steak. And I just found my new spot!! The food was fantastic!! Becca if I'm spelling her name correctly was an awesome waitress!! Everyone was really nice!! And I definitely recommend it!!
Best Bloody Mary. Amazing food. We live 5 hours away, our first stop while out exploring and I have to say the best! Waiter was beyond awesome! Didn't catch his name.. (Glasses, dark hair, beard) ���� will most definitely be back and always recommend to anyone.
Has taken a while to write this up - visited in March 2017.
Headed downtown just after noon and decided to drop in and have a bite and something to drink as there wasn't too much happening that early. At this time of day the place was quiet with just a few diners. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had no trouble finding plenty of good choices on the menu. The artichoke dip was excellent and I chose the the Old School Club - man was that a huge serve ! Apart from the size of the meal, everything was so fresh & tasty & there were so many fries I seriously couldn't finish it off.
I love my beer and the choices were broad - my wife had a cocktail which was oversized and expertly made.
Love the place and we will be back !
Before you go to Old School know that it is pub food. Pub food isn't known for it's advantageous nature or experimental taste. That being said, this place is good pub food. They have great battered fries that are fried to golden, crispy perfection. The price is right for 6th street and the service is attentive. Sit on the patio upstairs and people watch on 6th for dinner and a show.

When I travel to a new city for work or a vacation, I frequently scout out restaurants ahead of time and try to hit as many highly rated places as I can. Occasionally I like walking around and just stopping somewhere in the area that I am visiting and this is how I stumbled upon Old School Bar and Grill. Some friends and I decided to have dinner together and thought we would just walk to 6th Street and find somewhere to eat. After checking out a few places, we finally deciding to try this restaurant.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The burgers were big patties that were very juicy. I really liked the Zilker Park burger, which was topped with guacamole, bacon, mayo, and Pepper Jack. They only have one dessert, creme brûlée, but it is fantastic.
Great food, great service. This is the first place we tried on our trip to Austin since it was very near our hotel. The food was GREAT and our server was extremely nice and accommodating. She went over and above to make sure we enjoyed our meal, which we probably would have anyway. I ordered the Sunday brunch and it tasted like it was prepared by a REAL chef. Each thing I tasted was better than the last. My husband ordered more traditional bar food (wings), and they were really great, too.
Although service was a little slow, the food more then made up for the minor wait. With good classic music friendly wait staff and a relaxed atmosphere. This place was a good stop for lunch after a night of drinking.
Best Food On Sixth Street. The title says it all. It would actually be the best place to eat anywhere. Sure I work on Sixth Street and may be biased but Old School just gets it. They offer an industry discount which is really nice for us bartenders on the street.
Their burgers don't need any ketchup because they're amazingly tasty as is. The steak is really good as well and vey reasonable. They always tell you that the food is made fresh. After you taste their menu you can tell. All of their staff is friendly as well. Oh and my bf loves their wings with their hmoemade blue cheese dressing.
Great food, excellent service! Staff was quickly able to seat us, a walk-in party of sixteen (!!), all together on a beautiful, high open-air balcony overlooking the street below us. Given the balmy weather and the Mediterranean Festival going on in the street, it was the perfect setting for a memorable evening. Three cheers for the Old School!!

We were here visiting from California. Checking out the "California" of Texas. Well, I wouldn't go that far, but this pub rivals some of our California pubs. We enjoyed a beer tasting and lunch. Great atmostphere and we sat outside and watched people walk about.
I got the BELT. So so good. (I ate half the sandwich before I remembered to take a pic). I came with my husband, who got a burger and loved it too. The fries have a unique, excellent taste as well. We came for supper at 6:00 and the service was great and fast. Will be back earlier. (Happy hour ends at 6:00)
Pretty cool spot. Huge bar and seat yourself high tops for when it gets crowded. Tall ceiling with a ton of fans to fight that Texas heat. Worth a stop for a drink

Walked past this place 100 times before but finally decided to try it for lunch, turned out to be a great decision. The food (burgers & fries) was above average with plenty of creative toppings. Portion sizes are big so go there hungry or be prepared to take home left overs. The huge patio makes for a great place to eat or chill out. Keep in mind this place can get pretty busy so service can be slow at times.
I have been here several times.. Love this place. The burgers are awesome and Sunday Brunch is just as good. The prices are great, the patio bar upstairs is perfect for great Austin weather. The atmosphere on weekend nights is fun! Check this place out for sure.
Was visiting Austin for Reggae Fest and before heading back to Houston we decided to stop and get a bite. Saw this place as one of Austin's best so we decided to check it out and we were definitely pleased with what we had.We got there before the fun of 6th st started so seating wasn't a problem.
I always stick with pretty much the same thing at restaurants that cant be messed up like tenders but this time i decided to get something different and was worried i would be disappointed but I opted to get the chicken fried chicken with garlic mash and it was delicious!! Nice and garlicky mash and well seasoned chicken, not too much but just right. A friend of mine had the fish and chips and it was really good also. Portion sizes are big so you get a bang for your buck. We had wings and spinach dip as appetizers which were good. Service was good, our waitress was very attentive and nice.
Definitely will return here next time i visit Austin!
Our waitress was the BEST, so kind and even sat with us once her tables had cleared. Shared her story and family pics. Was the best waiter we had over the 4 days. The upper deck on the corner is a great place to sit and view all the action on 6th street.

The burgers are amazing!
I had the chicken burger (I think it was called the Zilker) and it was truly terrific. The chipotle mayo with the avocado was a nice pair with the season, perfectly cooked chicken burger.
Friendly staff and atmosphere make this a great lunch spot!
The porch is great, the beer is cold. On two separate visits I tried the chicken fried steak then on the second visit I tried the Buffalo wings and the BBQ wings. Perhaps it's my regional pallet, no judgement; The food just wasn't for me. To their credit the waiter recognized it and the manager made it right. Not every place is this great at hospility.
