Stopped by today and tried a new flavor called Self Portrait. Cinnamon ice cream with chocolate chips. Absolutely out of this world! Best flavor yet!!
I have never gotten a "bad" flavor here. I usually try the oddball stuff...yesterday I had sweet corn with peppered bacon & it was weird & yummy & kind of amazing. The maple bacon is my favorite so far...but I really like chocolate cardamom & anything chai.
I think ice cream is the perfect ending to every meal. So, each time Dawn and I had a fabulous dinner in Asheville, we looked for a nearby ice cream parlor to end our evening. On this day, we stopped at the Ultimate Ice Cream Company. So, I got these ice cream dippers, which are waffle cone pieces in ice cream, all topped with caramel, whipped cream and a cherry.
Good Home-made Unusual flavors. Visited the Ultimate Ice Cream company on my recent vacation to Asheville, tucked away in a small plaza is a tiny ice cream shop. Many unique flavors including, a goat cheese, fresh ginger & cinnamon hazelnut. Enjoyable.
Their name undersells what they offer. Probably the best ice cream I have ever had. Exceptionally creamy, very rich, VERY home made and perfect. Flavors that I have not seen anywhere else, and guessing there are no bad flavors here.

Wish I had some right now!. Tried this ice cream on a dessert i ordered at a downtown restaurant. When I tasted it I had to know where the ice cream came from. We asked & hunted it down the next day. You shouldn't miss this place when in town!
If your name had 'ultimate' in it, your ice cream had better be the best. This is, hands down, Asheville's best ice cream.
It's The Ultimate!. Can't say enough about the incredible ice cream to be had at this killer local joint! Flavors like Madagasgar Vanilla Bean, Belgian Dark Chocolate, Fresh Ginger, Local Pumpkin Pie, even Maple Bacon! It's all made with love and you can taste it! You can find a lot of their flavors at many of the local restaurants in the area as well.
Simply the best ice cream ever, made right in the store. I travel to the Asheville area for a week each year and usually make 3 forty minute round trips for this ice cream. And I'm a guy.

OH MY GOSH YES!!!!
I hesitantly ordered the pumpkin spice ice cream because, let's be honest, pumpkin spice ice cream always tastes synthetic and mildly gross. I took one bite of the pumpkin spice ice cream here and was low key freakin out because this is the pumpkin spice ice cream you dream about but had given up beliving existed. It was so so fresh and they were heavy handed on the spice which I lovedddd. The spices tasted fresh as well. Everything about it was perfection.
I also ordered the chocolate raspberry truffle. Absolutely delicious. I highly recommend paring the pumpkin with the chocolate raspberry as they were amazing together!
I need to also emphasis the texture of this ice cream. They have perfected it. It is this thick and creamy texture which most brands do not even come close to. Ice cream is usually a thinner consistency which is absolutely not as enjoyable to eat. This had more of a gelato consistency to it which was heavenly.
Run, don't walk to this place. You will not be disappointed!
Note to the owners: Can you PLEASE open up a location in the Raleigh area? We just don't have any places as good as this. I need this pumpkin ice cream every day 💗💗💗💗
While on vacay, we went to both Ultimate locations. They don’t have an overwhelming amount of flavours, but we tried almost all of them and they were delicious. My favourite was the strawberry. Both locations have a small amount of outdoor seating.
Always a delight!! We enjoy this a few times a year!! Their flavors are WONDERFUL!!! It was the Belgium Dark Chocolate and Cup O'Joe for us this time!!! Perfect!!!
My Mom, who is 93 years old, had a horrible stint at Mission (see that review) and had to go to rehab afterwards. She'd been through a lot and, as she improved, really wanted a hot fudge sundae. Someone at The Laurels (wonderful people!) recommended Ultimate and Oh My Gosh. They were RIGHT! The ice cream was amazing - some of the best I've ever had - and the place was wonderful. We loved the location, the vibe, the rainbows and all that means. We are HUGE fans of you, Ultimate. Thank you so much for making a hard time much less so - and for doing things the right way.
My husband always wants ice cream so I was looking for a spot we hadn't tried in Asheville yet and stumbled upon this one.
We shared a Banana Sundae with:

- Ultimate Chai Ice Cream
- Raspberry Sauce
- Marshmallow Fluff
- Wet Walnuts
- Whipped Cream & Cherry
I love their unique selection of flavors. I'm not a huge fan of traditional ice cream flavors, so I enjoyed theirs. They rotate flavors and I really wanted to try their goat cheese one, but they didn't have it when we went.
They do not skimp on the toppings on the sundae. I loved this. It really added to the ice cream.
It's a bonus that they're open on Mondays because most dessert places in Asheville seem to be closed on Mondays.
I'd definitely come back to try more flavors!
First time, and we were pleasantly surprised! We didn't even know that this place existed, but we're glad it does.
The kahlua mocha almond was rich, chocolatey, and full of almonds. Exactly what I was looking for. The mulled cider sorbet was perfectly sweet, spice-y, and loaded with fresh apple flavor. Both were great, and worth getting again.
I think I died and went to heaven. The best ice cream I’ve ever tried!
There's no ice cream place better. Not anywhere.
Why not have at least one daily sorbet to allow a treat for the growing number of vegans?
The lemon custard s'cream is SO unusually exquisite, if I ran Ultimate, i'd have that speciality on offer every day.

I never met a flavor I didn’t enjoy here. The ice cream is dreamy. If you get lucky enough to try their goat cheese and bing cherry ice cream when they have it, please do your tastebuds a favor.
Don’t be fooled by the minimal selection in flavors. The creamy flavor is amazing on a hot summer day. We will definitely come back again.
