Comfortable traditional Brass Bar and Oak kind of place. Girlfriend and I enjoyed a BLT sandwich and a beer, very filling with fries. Cozy booths, nice staff and its heritage dates from 1872 when the building was erected across from an old lumber yard that apparently many houses were built from the scrap wood. I learned this from an respected local building inspector, Clint Driver, when I lived on Miner Street nearby. Yes, it sounds like a stage name but he's a real guy with a ton of knowledge about home building methods, materials and the history of construction in Ann Arbor. In this mostly Black community many couldn't afford fresh cut wood. So on the North Side, from Main Street west down Miller to Brooks, and north of there, houses were built with lots of what was then considered scrap. It was probably higher quality wood -- virgin pine, maybe black walnut, oak, maple and others -- vs. what you get now fresh cut at home improvement "big box" stores! That neighborhood heritage should is documented somewhere and written about! Hey Ann Arbor Observer, I'm talking to you!

I have been going to this place for over 13 years and have never had a bad experience, it’s a warm friendly local tavern and it home to in my opinion what is the best macaroni and cheese in Ann Arbor, whenever there is an occasion for going out this is the place I always choose, from the wonderful Ann Arbor art to the friendly wait staff 10 out of 10 one of favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor.

They serve a meatless Ultimate berger which paired well with some onion rings and a IPA on tap. Great service made a good intro to Ann Arbor.
