My good Northern Virginian folks hipped me to this cheesesteak spot. This Steakhouse is a staple in the community. Since I’m still on the hunt for the BEST…let’s see what this cheesesteak is hittin on… . Where I am: @alssteakhouse.Ava . Location Reviewed: 1504 Mt. Vernon Ave., Alexandria V.A. . Menu Includes: Bacon, Sausage & Egg Breakfast Sandwiches, French Toast & Omelettes, Pizza, Hot Subs, Philly Subs, Cold Cut Subs, Burgers, Rueben’s, Hot Dogs, a Chicken Sandwich, Veggie Burger, Fish Sandwich, a Halfsmoke, Cake, Cookies, & Beverages. . Items Reviewed: Their 5 topping Pizza (a 14” pie with pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, onions, & mushrooms $17). DECENT. This pie had all the elements…it was missing a tasty marinara base, & fresher ingredients. Their Fries ($3.99). DECENT. They were just…fries. That’s it. Their Green Pepper Cheesesteak (a 12”sub with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, & mayo $18). ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Now the protein on this sub was plentiful, & tender. It wasn’t a cheesy as I like, & there were too many veggies. . Customer Service: Excellent!! Accommodating & Attentive. . Online Navigation: Super Easy . Parking: Street/Metered . It’s Al’s by name only ! The new cooks don’t come close to what it use to be like. I can appreciate how much faster the service is but it comes at a discount in the food. When the owner or his son were on the grill this was the best cheesesteak I have ever had, this include Pats and Genos. This place will be missed.

For a quality Cheesesteak in the NOVA area, this is the place. Good portions, great quality. Fries were a little on the soggy side, but overall food was great. Limited seating. Also my 9 year old recommend the gyros, said it was 3 goods (his normal scale is 2 goods is great). Overall, they do cheesesteaks well.

If I closed my eyes, my cheese steak transported me to South Philly. (Full disclosure I have never lived in South Philly but have dined on their cheesesteaks). What I really enjoyed was the thinly sliced iceberg lettuce it just worked. The sandwich was a tad to salty but if I was overly worried about my diet I would not have been there. I review many upscale restaurants and this one is basic as you might expect with limited tables. But so good...
