food is amazing! Got the Jimmy-changa and hubby had the frito pie! Delicious! My little one (who is 3) had the taquitos and when asked she said it’s good mama!

What an awesome restaurant. I stopped in while passing through town and grabbed lunch right before they closed for the day. My meal was quick, hot and there was enough to feed a family. I got to chat with the owners (family run) who couldn't have been more friendly and kind. I'll recommend, and go out of my way, to stop here next time I'm back in town. Dreaming of those tacos and tamales!

I like the food here it's always really good everything is fresh and they always pack it up really nice we order and then pick up. We Have dinned in a few times but i don't care for the atmosphere. But i do love the food.

Came here to find a good breakfast burrito. It is going up against the current king Golden Pride. Walked in to out in a to go order. What's good: Legit New Mexican feel Good prices Straight forward cooking Feel authentic to their culture not fabricated Clean but not too clean Hard working family Burritos flavors are great Did it beat Golden Pride? The flavors of the burrito are great but tortilla is not as good and ratio to filling is not as perfect. I feel like this burrito would be better smothered. Handheld burrito king still remains as golden pride. But would definitely come back for this one as a smothered one.

Looooove this place. The food is great, service is awesome, and the family that owns and operates it are awesome! Amazing people and food made with love! The burger… get yourself a green chile cheeseburger and enjoy! Thanks again you guys, can’t wait to visit again!

I've been here many times, but I always get the same thing: green chile cheeseburger and chile cheese fries. The burgers are always juicy and seasoned well. The chiles are flavorful and all the other toppings pair well and are fresh. The fries are always crispy and delicious and the chile sauce is great, but I do wish it was a little spicier. Still, not enough for me to give fewer stars. All around, the service is great and the burgers are tasty. Will always come back!

Amazing food. Haven’t tried something I don’t enjoy. The Jim Sauce is the best hot sauce ever! Cute little ABQ hidden gem

Always delicious... Recommended! The question is... Red or Green? 🔥

I admit that from the outside you don't expect much but inside it is full of friendly, nice people and excellent food. I ordered these smothered burrito with potato and chicken and it was indeed smothered and huge. You're not going to beat the prices and it doesn't suffer one bit because the prices are reasonable.

Best breakfast burrito in town! The family that runs the joint is super friendly and community oriented. It's nice to have a local place so close to my house.

Love this place. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners at an event and had to check it out. I love the Indian fry bread plate. They are always very nice and welcoming and the food is delicious and not super greasy.

Very Political. After seeing the ad for Santiago's in Albuquerque Magazine, I decided to give it a try.....OMG this guy is a right wing nut case....he hates, Democrats, gays, brown people (all), thinks women are stupid and really hates Obama...He has anti Obama articles plastered all over his walls. He obviously has no business sense, as he has alienated 56% of his business...stupid man...I will never go back, and will tell as many as I can what I observed.

What's more important, your ideology or your business?. I've eaten at Santiago's twice, once on my own and once because a friend wanted to. The food is good, not the best, but good and price was very reasonable. Although I much prefer Perea's or Garcia's both of which are also nearby. I'd eat there again, except I find it disturbing that the owner feels the need to ram his rabid, teabagger ideology down his customers throats by posting his teabagger conspiracy nonsense on the walls of the restaurant. It's obvious he cares more about his rabid, right-wing ideology than he does his restaurant or he wouldn't risk alienating customers.

Great Food, Great service-inexpensive!. If you are looking for great NM Mexican food, this is your place. 6 of us eat here every Tuesday, usually all get smothered burritos and kindness and great service. If you don't like the politics., (find another place i.e. flying star)
The owner speaks of politics when asked his views. He has
Run this place for over 30 years and his beliefs have not closed him! His food is great for the money and the place is always clean and inviting. The owners are welcoming people and will go out of their way to make sure you have enough coffee, water, ice tea etc. Pass on SaNDiegos and come here. You will become a regular! Nothing on the menu ( individually) is over $8.00! Can't beat that! Not enough taste? Add salt or tell them, they are very accomadating and will make it right. ENJOY!!

Extreme Politics & Eggs? No thanks.. Good food, but we will never return.

If you don't like to have blaring political propaganda displayed in front of your seat about the economy to abortion while you are eating your eggs and bacon, then this isn't the place for you.

It wasn't for me either. As a small business owner, I don't think it is very smart to display political views that could automatically divide and potentially lose half of your clientele. Pretty basic to me.

I was so turned off by the absolute lack of consideration for ALL patrons that the good food suddenly tasted bad.

The owner may be a "passionate" cook with "strong political views" as one reviewer wrote, but he should stick to the former and what he is better at-- cooking. Perhaps he needs to hire a competent business manager to understand the do's and don'ts of business.
Love That Burrito Dan
Love the Burritos and Green Chile. When a restaurant review is as negative as the one done by Crash Mentira, about Santiago’s restaurant, on July 30, 2012, it is time to set the record straight. His strong political bias and unsubstantiated comments provided a very inaccurate appraisal of a restaurant, its food and its owner. As a regular customer of Santiago’s, I have serious concerns about Crash’s ability to serve as a credible restaurant reviewer. Let me start by saying Santiago’s is a small, family run business that has been around for about 30 years. It’s goal has always been to provide each customer with the best meal possible at a very reasonable price. Crash was right about the prices being very cheap but wrong about “you get what you paid for”. At Santiago’s, you always get a large portion of well prepared food for a small amount of money. As for the food being bland, Crash better see a doctor soon. He has lost his ability to taste seasoned or spicy foods. Over 85% of Santiago’s customers think the food is well prepared, properly seasoned and very tasty to eat. As far as the food’s authenticity, you have to go back to the owner’s childhood. A large number of the menu items served at Santiago’s are authentic recipes from his mother’s kitchen. He loved eating her specially prepared meals and enjoys bringing them to his restaurant customers. Yes, the owner has strong political views. But, he also exhibits that same energetic passion in everything he does. From morning ‘til night, six days a week, the owner and his family work hard at preparing and serving tasty meals to each customer that patronizes their restaurant. Whenever the owner has a free moment, he loves to get away from the grill and chat with the customers about, not only politics, but, also, social issues or a wide variety of other topics. So, if you want to spend your money wisely, surround yourself with friendly people and enjoy eating well prepared food, visit Santiago’s. Oh. Also, take advantage of their convenient carry-out and catering services. I’ve used both of them and they are wonderful features of the restaurant. Sorry Crash. Before writing future reviews about a restaurant and its food, try leaving your political bias aside and try adding credibility and accuracy to your personal opinions by providing factual information instead of vindictive assumptions.

Very cheap, but you get what you paid for. Food is bland and anything but authentic. The owner/cook spends his time between orders chatting with clientele, but his right wing extremism seems to be his only topic of conversation. It's not money well spent.

Great Chile - Red or Green. I enjoy the food and friendly service 2-3 times a week. I have a variety of favorites from burritos, huevos rancheros, taco salad, and green chile cheese burgers. I enjoy both the red and green chile on a variety of meals. A must go to place for a hot quick meal or stay a while to meet and greet the daily patrons.

Best Breakfast. On Saturdays, we like to eat breakfast there -- hubby gets extra sausage and I get extra hash browns with the Huevos Racheros. Wego home stuffed so full we end up havingto go right back to sleep in! Food is great, plentiful, and we end up taking the taco sauce home to cook with. It's better than the little packets of sauce you get with fast food tacos, so we "just say no" to the fast food sauce and douse them with Jimmy's special, which makes ordinary food taste good.

Can't beat the veiw, and great food and service.

The service is fast and friendly but the young blond pritty girl is pushy and tell's you what you can or can not have..? But the food over see's that. Grate food we will be back.

Awesome Burritos!. This restaurant has an amazing take on their food: Serve it hot, and slather delicious chile sauce all over it! Also, the service is fast and friendly! So, if you don't like piping hot, tasty food... stay away from this place! In the mean time I will eat the food that you do not. I have yet to try any of their regular entrees just because the smothered burritos are so darn good! Definitely a regular stop for me!

Best Green Chile sauce around!. Santiago's is a wonderful place to grab huevos or a burrito in the morning. The green sauce is my favorite in town; it's hot, tangy and just the right consistency.

Perhaps understanding the perception that authenticity is ascribed to names, Jim Madrid chose to brand his restaurant “Santiago’s New Mexican Grill” instead of “Jim’s…” Santiago, by the way, is a Spanish name which translates in English to James or Jim, hence Jim Madrid is actually using his given name and not making one up so he can hawk New Mexican food. In any regard, Santiago’s New Mexican Grill has been serving the Duke City for more than a quarter of a century.
