Review Taaj Palace Indian Restaurant - Albuquerque

John K.
Very consistent. The butter chicken is one of my favorites as well as the potato samosas. I always eat a lot of the vegetarian options even though I’m fine eating meat because they taste really good. My son is a big fan of the garlic naan. Nice selection of chutneys too. I always like a little mango custard or rice pudding for dessert.

Quick launch, good quality buffet food. I was lucky to get unsweetened masala tea here. Love the place.

We visited with a large group this past Saturday. I made reservations for after our wedding ceremony in Rio Rancho, but we ended up being very late. The gentleman I spoke with was so professional, welcoming and gracious. The food was amazing. Thank you for having us, we wish you many years of success!

This place is absolutely amazing. I can not say enough. We can in about an hour before closing and they were so attentive and nice. The food was delicious and fresh, and everything was just incredible. The desserts were warm and just the right about of sweet.

Delicious lunch! I felt as though I was indulging in some of the world’s best delicacies. I love sweets so the carrot pudding and gulag jamun were especially my favorite. Oh, I had seconds!! I almost forgot to mention the garlic naan and butter chicken 👌👌👌

We love this place. My husband and I go there regularly with our two kids. Their food is some of the best Indian food in town. Highly recommend. We especially love that it's buffet all day long.

Delicious buffet filled with fresh home cooked traditional Indian dishes. Plenty of Vegan options as well as meat dishes. Also plenty of savory sauces and deserts. Fast, friendly service.

This is my all-time favorite Indian buffet! The food was Excellent and the staff friendly and respectful. when i have family come visit in abq we are going to Taaj Palace!
Amanda Curnow
There is a buffet and I was able to try a variety of new flavors and foods. The food was spicy for the inexperienced and on par to a spice enthusiast. The restaurant is dated and join them for dine-in away from the buffet carousels or you'll have a sauna experience.

Great place for an Indian buffet. Food was fresh. Service was good

We had a lovely memorial service here for a lost family member. The food was delicious and the service was superior. Thank you to Taaj for allowing us all to meet here.

Great indian food. Was absolutely surprised they had goat. Usually the buffets are just chicken. Would come back again!! Delicious!!

We went during the lunch buffet on a Saturday. The service was excellent and the food was fresh & tasty. I would definitely recommend 👌

The East Indian buffet Taj Palace is one of the best in Albuquerque and it is available from lunch through dinner. The vegetarian section is nicely separated from the section with meat dishes. They have my favorite saag paneer on a buffet and their dessert options are undeniably the best on any India buffet I have ever seen. There is a great wine selection here too.

Went in for an early dinner and much to my surprise they still offered the buffet. Much to my disappointment it looked like it had been sitting there since lunch, but was still hot so we decided to partake. I am well aware that Indian food is generally spicy, but have been able to find things for my 5 year old to eat on other buffet lines of the same nature. Unfortunately everything had spice and my daughter was unable to enjoy anything on the buffet. The butter chicken which I generally enjoy was over spicy for my taste. To conclude our dinner I decided to enjoy some mango custard. The milk was starting to turn as it tasted sour. I opted for the rice pudding but it was clearly contaminated with red sauce from another portion of the buffet. I mentioned the mango custard starting to go bad to our server, he informed another server whom I witnessed take a spoon dip it directly into the large vat of custard to take a taste for himself. Apparently he did not think it was going bad and they left it for other patrons to partake of. Then the bill came, $65 for 4 people. When I considered we each only ate 1 plate(or less) it hardly seemed worth the money and therefore we will not be returning. I wish I could find a place that is comparable to India House in Santa Fe here in Albuquerque.

Family owned.. Authentic Indian cuisine in Albuquerque. Delicious food! The service was excellent! EVERYONE helps We had our server, but at one point the owner/manager came and checked up on the table and refilled my child's cup, his wife came later and removed the plates; that kind of environment. The PERFECT getaway from burritos and tacos. ;))

The staff are always so kind and considerate! The most delicious chai I have ever had, and they refill it constantly! The buffet is wonderful, a lot of staples on the buffet with a few that change so there is always a good variety. My nine year old loves it, though curry is not her favorite, she can always find something to eat!

Wow! I had the best Indian food of my life when I was in New Zealand and I couldn't find the same dish here in New Mexico by the same name. So I walked into Taaj Palace and showed them what I had and was instantly accommodated and informed what they call it, which is korma, and it was made for me right then. And it is so delicious! I am in heaven! Thank you!

The food and service are always great. I arrived at an off time. 4:30pm on a Saturday. The buffet was fresh and hot. Best Indian food in Albuquerque!

AMAZING!!!! The food is full of flavor and begging you to get seconds. The staff are very friendly and ready to help you with quickly clearing away plates, refilling your water or, mmmmm refill your cup with Chai! You owe it to your taste buds to frequent this restaurant.

One of the best Indian Restaurants in Albuquerque! The people who work there are wonderful and gracious.

Horrible place with even worse staff who ill treat you and the hygiene is just disgusting. Food sucks so bad I’d rather eat bird shit also its very stale and the cutlery seems like its been dug out of the ground.
Dipankar Bajaj
Bad and unhygienic food. Other Indian restaurants way better. Taj Mahal and some Nepal restaurant is way better and worth your money. Never eat at Taaj Palace.

A favorite place to brunch with my son, John, for the loads of tasty vegan options at their buffet. Always excellent service and delicious, tasty food.

Faithful Indian fare for the American palate. Honestly, for sub-continent joints that aren't totally vegetarian, I can recite every menu item from memory. All your faves are here, and were all very well prepared. And frankly, my family loves it all. A few things to mention: meats were very generous for our entrees; service was friendlier, and less formal, than many similar Indian places I've been to on this continent; and, their Kingfisher beer was very fresh (think about it--it has to go half way around the world). If you are a Naan lover, their Bread Basket for $7.99 was a nice cross-section of all their offerings, and plenty for your dinner party. Satisfaction guaranteed for this Maharaja, here...

This is one of my favorite places to indulge. Butter chicken is awesome and the spicy tandoori is too. My wife loves the rice pudding dessert. Go for the buffet. Tasty!!

The food is good, but the service is awful! Worst in the city, especially if you're a woman. If you go, only go to the buffet so you can serve yourself. We went one evening & the (male) waiter hardly looked at us, wouldn't respond when I called him, kept us waiting for our food over 30 minutes while he took good care of other (male) diners, & then to top it all off, he got the order wrong! Worst service ever.
Robert Beurkens
Dinner. Went here for dinner and I couldn't believe the hugely over priced entrees! The food was great but I felt bad about spending so much. Indian food is basically stews and comfort food, it is cheap to make! These guys are out of their minds. I will stick to cooking my own.

Family friendly dining on the east side. My family and I have been coming to Taaj Palace for the better part of two years. It's easily our favorite Indian restaurant in town. Their daily lunch buffets have terrific variety at a very affordable price. Perhaps more importantly for me, they are very family friendly. They help accommodate my 1 year old child and his boundless energy.

There's a variety of vegetarian and meat options. Vegetarian options are kept separate, making it easy for vegetarians to find a good selection of food they are sure to enjoy.

Atmosphere is decent. It's not an elegant dining experience, but there is nice Indian decor. The staff is friendly and efficient, always greets me by name and gets me my drink before I'm seated.

Definitely check this place out if you love Indian food or are hunting for a bargain. Don't forget to check their website for coupons.

Best Indian Restaurant In Albuquerque New Mexico. Wow this is restaurant is AWESOME. Their Daily lunch buffet is amazing different varieties of Non veg and veg and also their desserts. They have Mango Ice cream which is mind blowing. They also have Dinner buffet on Fri Sat and Sun. Very reasonable price. Their waiters are great . Specially Karim he is very friendly. He makes you feel like a family and is very entertaining, he does the water tricks by pouring water in a glass from at least One feet high, . GO check it out. They also have this dessert Called TIRAMISU, which he makes by himself. Its really good . Try it yourself .
All their waiters are excellent. They also play Bollywood movies sometimes. SO GO AND CHECK IT OUT YOURSELF YOU WONT GET DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS RESTAURANT. I have been to several Indian restaurant in town, but this is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been. I live in Toronto Canada and we have Indian Restaurant here. but I think this restaurant is the best.. I give 5 *****

I tried them again! :). I tried the Phall, their hottest curry, with goat. Heat levels range from 15-35. The man I talked to on the phone (at the restaurant) said they couldn't eat the 35. He suggested 15 and I asked what if that wasn't hot enough? So he recommended the 25. It's delicious. It's HOT!!! If you can eat habaneros, then this is for you. If you think Tabasco is hot, stay away from all heat levels!!! This dish is a British/Indian concoction. The goat was cooked perfectly tender. It was amazing. Nice lip burn, minimal mouth burn, no stomach irritation. I might try the 30 next then work up to 35. This was take-out and unfortunately I had no beer, just wine, at home. Beer would've been perfect. I crave hot foods often and this was the perfect dish to satisfy that craving. Just to add, I have eaten bhut jolokia peppers so I know heat.

-----26 Jun, 2014-----

First try. I ordered take-out, Lamb Tikka Masala, mixed pickle, and spicy naan. The curry right off the menu is mild (to me anyway). My Japanese mother's Japanese curry was way hotter than this. Since I wasn't at the restaurant, I added some white pepper and West Indian habanero sauce and it perked up nicely! If you like heat, I recommend that you ask for it. The lamb was fork tender even tho a few pieces contained inedible gristle. The curry sauce had a mild sweetness to it. The mixed pickle consists of green mangoes, limes, karamdas berries, carrots, whole long green chiles, carrots, ginger slices and spice galore! It is spicy, oily, and very salty. If you like tart and spicy, this is a good condiment. I suggest you don't stick a whole piece of mango in your mouth because it contains the seed husk which is hard. The ingredients that stood out most are the limes, ginger. Everything else just all blends nicely together with the spice. It is almost identical to Achar Pachranga. The spicy naan was adequate and the only thing that wasn't salty. So I give this 4 stars based on take-out. I'm sure it'll get a 5-star rating when I actually go there to eat. I'm looking forward to trying their HOTTEST curry, Phall!

Top Indian Restaurant in New Mexico. After trying many different types of Indian cuisine around the country and most parts of the world, I am appreciating the great food, service and ambiance Taaj has to offer. The extensive daily lunch and weekend special dinner buffets(including fish) ,made to order excellent selection of curries of a la carte entrees, both spicy and non spicy tandoori favorites, great varieties of naan are truly gourmet delights. Beer, wine, periodic belly dances and live music in a beautifully decorated colorful room creates a great occasion for both family and also romantic dining. It is also a nice surprise to welcome back Karim!

This place doesnt serve fresh food. I can say this with conviction because I know how indian food tastes like and it dint taste that way here. the tandoori chicken was undercooked, the gulab jamoon were hard(clearly indicating that the food was not fresh), the panner was soggy. Bad experience overall and to top it off, the customer service was not great either. I would give this place a miss !
Maleah
I thought the food was great, it had alot of flavor but I can't give it to thumbs up. I had a coupon for them and they were very unclear if I could use it or not. And then I'm assuming it was the manager step in and acted like he was going to take "care" of it, but he then came back with a different priced receipt that was more than what was previously shown on my first receipt. Need less to say, I will never come back or recommend this unprofessional atmosphere to anyone.
Dave
Currently the best Indian food in Albuquerque (without a doubt).

As someone who is very familiar with fine Indian food in many foreign countries and especially in Britain,I can easily say that Taaj has superior quality, variety and service that stands above the similar restaurants in ABQ.The extensive lunch and weekend dinner buffets, comfortable ambiance, special entertainment and a great staff provide a memorable dining experience.

Best indian Cuisine in ABQ (Complete Turnaround). When we first started coming here the food was really good and the service was decent. For awhile the service went downhill fast but since they now have a new owner/management, the place is excellent. Their buffet selection is ridiculously awesome and the servers are all very friendly and attentive. This place surpassed Taj Mahal for best Indian cuisine in Albuquerque in my book.

Excellent since new owner took over. I've been visiting this restaurant since 2007. My visits have become much more frequent since the owner and the chefs changed recently. These days this restaurant easily has the best Indian food in Albuquerque. I've spoken to their chefs several times and they take pride and show extra interest in their dishes.

Admittedly I've only tried their buffets (both lunch and dinner) but they are excellent! The food is not very spicy. They offer a wide variety of veg and non-veg dishes. The dishes are "well-matched", meaning the bhaturas are always served with chhole, the dosas with sambhar, the rice with a daal or kadhi, etc. They have three kinds of tandoori chicken (regular, spicy, and halal)! Their butter chicken and goat curry are worth trying. They have one of the best arrays of salads, condiments, and desserts I've seen in an Albuquerque Indian restaurant. Besides great gulab jamuns they also have a fruit chaat for the health conscious. Other desserts include carrot halwa, rasmalai, a barfi or laddoo depending on the chef's mood.

The rooms are bright (lunch time) and the decor adequate. They have a third room for hosting larger parties. Service is unobtrusive and polite. The owners are generous: I prefer rotis over naans and they have no problem bringing that out for me at no extra charge (unlike at Rasoi). They had a great Valentine's Day special two days ago where they offered wine for $1/glass! Also, they seem to be able to order for you things Indian (like special kitchenware or spices or even musical instruments)!

MMM great lunch buffet and Fri and Sat Dinner buffet. OMG. This restaurant is just awesome. I have been several Indian restaurant in town, but this one is my THE best, Their food is from heaven, its just so good that just want to keep eating again and again. Service is great. The waiters are so gentle and they will keep refiling your drinks or water they will try to keep you happy and make you feel like home. Their Manager MR. Karim is just mind blowing, He does this water tricks and he also makes kids smile by taking a box of juice from their ears, LOL, I highly recommend this restaurant . Try their Chicken 65 and Butter chicken, Also try their Dal Meat which is made with lentil and Lamb meat.. its so MMM. oh one more thing you have to try is their GOBI MANCHURIAN SPECIAL its just out this world.. The dish is made with Cauliflower and sauted with bell peppers and comes with Vegetable Biriyani which is flavored rice... GO to this restaurant and you will come out with a good smile on your face, You will not get disappointed.

The food was delicious and very fresh. My favorite was Tikka Masala! The Mongo Lassi was superb! The Mongo Cheesecake was also to die for. I Would recommend this restaurant very highly!

A neighborhood favorite.. I go to this little restaurant as often as I can for dinner. Their buffet is excellent and has some of the best tandoori chicken around. They offer all the traditional favorites, including vegetarian options, such as paneer dishes. THe interior is cozy and elegant and the staff friendly and courteous. I updated this after the new owners took over to say that it is still one of my favorites.

Very good delivery is by an unafiliated 3rd party. He was very polite naan was awesome delicious and smoky. Purchased the dinner for two
Was a bit spendy but nothing extraordinary. Great food. Lamb was god. Shrimp would have benefited from a diferent prep for delivery. They were cold.

YUMMY!!!. My husband and I used to go to Taaj Palace or get takeout a lot. We heard they were under new management and the food wasn't as good as it used to be. This couldn't be further from the truth. They are under new management, but the food is DELICIOUS! It's even better than before with even more choices. I loved all of the vegetarian choices. My favorite was the Gobi Manchurian, but my husband loved the Mushroom mutter makhani. I tried a little bit of everything and was so full I thought I would burst. We will definitely be back!
Nina
AMAZING!!!. So.. we had ordered take out from Taaj Palace before and it was ok.
We decided to go tonight because they used to have a buffet on Fridays and Saturdays, and we thought, why not? we went in expecting a buffet.. and realized.. there was no buffet.. however.. we were there, and we decided to give it a try.
Sooooooooo happy that we did. We had family visiting from Texas and they were running a little late, so we let our waiter know and he was so gracious and accommodating. Service wise, I would definitely give this place five stars out of five.
Now on to the food.. like I said.. we thought it would be a buffet... variety vs. quality.. but we ended up ordering a la carte and we are very very happy that we did. We tried the vegetarian special of the day, the Gogi Manchurian.. I cannot even begin to describe how delicious it was! for a moment I forgot what we ordered and I asked my boyfriend if it was chicken only to realize it was some of the best tasting cauliflower I have ever had.. in my life! please.. go to Taaj Palace and try their innovative and delicious food creations. This is the second time I have written a review about a place and I am only doing it because I am an honestly satisfied customer of this restaurant and I want to share my experience with other people so that they can enjoy it as well!!!!

Good food, great service but a little pricey. I thought the selection for the buffet was really good and the service was great.

I really like when the buffet area is clean and uncluttered.
Matt
OUTSTANDING. Super friendly service and truly great food. I have eaten there 2 times and plan to go back many many more times. First time I got the buffet it was really good. The second time I got Palace Mixed Grill and it was one of the best Indian dishes I have ever had. I cant wait to go back and try something else.

Best Indian Food. Taaj Palace has the best Indian food in town. The three sauces served before dinner with the crispy "crackers" are excellent and are a wonderful prelude for what is to come. I love their buffet, which is great for first-timers who are not sure what to order. Their dinners from the menu are also excellent! My favorites are the dinner for 2 combinations, which come in vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties and their appetizers are crispy and fresh. The naan melts in your mouth and has a light coating of ghee to enhance their freshness and authenticity. The dessert menu is also very good. Their galub jamun is delicately flavored with cardamom and honey. The hot chai and the mango lassi are 2 additional favorites.

A Taste of India.... India's cuisine is as diverse and complex as its history and culture. I was introduced to Indian fare as an adolescent while living in the Middle East. While being entertained with stories from Madras to Darjeeling, I developed a love for India's foods.
The service was both personal and efficient. I thoroughly enjoyed the food -- Tender Tandoori chicken and vegetables with rice. A yogurt-based sauce was provided (at the Owner's recommendation) to make a great dish even better. I was also provided three varieties of chutney too.

The owner made pleasant conversation following my meal, and I was impressed with the personal attention.

A definite recommend -- for a taste of the exotic and, unfortunately in this country, the unknown.

Amazing. I love the food here, If your unsure try the buffet its all really good! I tried buffet a few times but now that I have my favorites I order off the menu. Try the vegi dinner for two!

Long Time Favorite. We've been going since they first opened. It's been a long time favorite and we go whenever we can.

Yummy! The Vegan Thalia was the best. Three wonderful vegan dishes superbly spiced. Yhe restaurant also had a warm atmosphere. I'll definitely go back even though it's outside of my geographic comfort zone!

Excellent Indian Food!. Today was the first day my friend Diana and I had eaten at Taaj Palace. We began with soup-mulagatawny and dal-both were very flavorful and satisfying, although the cups were small. Then we had samosas, which were very good, especially with their close-to-perfect tamarind or cilantro chutney! I had the chicken biryani, which was rich and flavorful with tender chicken and perfectly cooked basmati rice. Diana had the korma with shrimp and she loved it! We had drinks, too; mine was the sour-salty lassi (yogurt drink), which was clean and refreshing, although it should have been chilled a bit more. Hers was the sweet mango lassi, which may as well have been dessert! Yum! We have definitely found our new favorite Albuquerque restaurant! ****
John
Good food and service. We found Taaj Palace using Urbanspoon. They had good food and were very friendly. We wanted something that we had seen on the menu image here on urbanspoon (the Maharaja). They let us know that it was no longer available on their new menu, but after a quick conference with the owner the waiter came back smiling to tell us they would prepare it for us anyway.

Paired with an excellent Himalayan Blue Lager on the recommendation of our waiter, our meal was excellent. We will go back the next time we are in ABQ.
Cookie
BEST IN ABQ!. This restaurant reminded me of the great Indian restaurants in downtown New York City. Wonderful tasting food,a friendly owner and great service.

Wow, really good, inexpensive and friendly service! I will go back for sure.
