Review Thai Vegan - Albuquerque

Sarah Odeh
The food is incredible. Very flavorful, well balanced, and perfectly spicy. We had the larb Chicken and while different than what I was expecting, it was very good. The green curry though was my very favorite thing we ate. Highly recommend if you're in the area. And they are open on Christmas

I stumbled upon this hidden gem recently, and it made my day. In fact it made my whole week! Thai Vegan has a special feel to it, unassuming from the outside, but as soon as you approach the front door, you can feel the positive energy sparkling from within. The dining room is beautifully decorated with tons of visual stimulation (for those of us with ADHD). The young woman Who helped me was kind and professional, and the food was amazing. Generous portions of fresh, healthy food. I got the lunch special with green curry and it was stellar. Reasonably priced and easy-going, this is probably my new favorite restaurant in Albuquerque.

Busy with decorations, almost a fire Hazzard way too much decor. Staffing was nonchalant. Tom yum soup was good.

My family went here for lunch recently and found the food amazing. I had the spicy noodles with "beef" and really loved it, so flavorful and pleasing to the eyes. My daughter enjoyed her curry, I was surprised she let me try it. The atmosphere was very pleasant which put the icing on the cake as it were. Highly recommend this restaurant

The service is great and friendly. The green curry is so good, spicy level 4 has enough kick for me. Pod Thai is pretty okay, I think it would be good to use less sauce something like a tamarind.

We love this place!! Tried it on a whim one time and we've been coming back since. So so so so yummy, such a fun atmosphere, and oddly attentive staff. We've loved everything we've tried so far. My favourite part is that despite being really satisfying, the food doesn't leave you feeling all heavy and greasy and gross. Definitely would recommend!

What a great experience I had here. Excellent food and service. Don’t let this vegan restaurant fool you with its imitation meats. They’re super realistic and hard to differentiate from the real thing. The crispy chicken was phenomenal and the green curry with purple rice in the shape of a heart was a nice touch. I hope to come back sometime and try more things here 🍛🍛🍛

Fresh rolls and yellow curry were excellent. Pad Thai was a little too sweet though. Great service!

Overall this place is very good. Food had so much flavors couldn't get enough. Must go... Additionally service was really good, and the atmosphere was welcoming.
Amanda
Loved this place! Had the Tom Yum soup and the yellow curry with tofu lunch special and the tempura appetizer. All dishes were flavorful and reasonably priced. Only gripe is I would’ve liked more of the yellow curry and the potato to be cooked soft.

Thai Vegan is absolutely excellent. You can order almost anything on their menu and it's going to be so good. I'm partial to their pineapple fried rice but their curries and soups are 100. Plus it's so cute inside. Recommended!

First time at a vegan place. Since it's Lent, I couldn't eat meat and I hate seafood, so decided to try this place. I Had the padthai to compare it to regular ones. It was awesome. The flavors were great and I even enjoyed the soy chicken. The spring roll was a little odd, to me, but not bad. I would definitely come back here again and try other meals.

Amazing experience! I wish I'd known about this place sooner but I'm glad I do now... I had the red curry with tofu and it was flavorful, rich, and the veggies had a nice crunch. The hot ginger tea was also delicious. Fun atmosphere and friendly, attentive service. Check it out!

The Thai food and the service were exceptional. The only complaint we had was sitting close to the door and it was a little chilly when people walked in and out. The atmosphere overall was nice.

SOOOO many options! I ordered a Thai tea and it was perfect! Usually vegan Thai teas are kinda watery, but this one was amazing! I got the yellow curry with tofu and it had the perfect portion of veggies to go along with the tofu. The golden tofu appetizer was a win for everyone at the table, too! Don't skip this place!
Mary DeLong
Placed a takeout order for the red curry and the spicy noodles, both with soy chicken. Holy moly that food was absolutely amazing. Both dishes came carefully packaged so the sauces didn't mix with the salad. A lot of times it's hard to find authentic flavors at vegan restaurants but this place did an incredible job. Highly recommend vegans and non vegans check this place out.

I’m not vegan but this place is AMAZING. I got the chili shrimp and it was soooo good. High quality food, people, atmosphere. I loved everything about this place and cannot wait to come back. Finally found a good local place in ABQ with amazing food and service. Keep it up yall! Short wait too!

Fourth visit just as good as the first. Lovely and Fresh. So clean and good vibes. Excellent tofu. Feel good place.

The food was incredibly delicious. I had the yellow curry with brown rice, along with an iced latte. Not only was this “primo” dining, it was %100 vegan! The atmosphere is very relaxing, and elegant/casual. Because it is friendly, though, I did not feel out of place in my jeans and t-shirt $ athletic shoes.

Fantastic food!!!<br/>I'm attempting to focus on a plant based diet for a while... Forks over knives kind of thing...<br/>I've been really worried that I would be stuck eating tofu and lettuce :-( <br/><br/>This place rocks!!! <br/>I got the yellow curry lunch combo - comes with spring rolls, rice and salad. Half way through the meal - I'm stuffed!! <br/><br/>The curry sauce is some of the best I've had, and I'm a total curry snob :-) <br/><br/>Love it!!!

This is one of my favorite places in Albuquerque!  The food is excellent and they will make it any heat you want -- from mild to four alarm!  The service is always great and I find the atmosphere very relaxing!  Even if you are dedicated to meat, this is worth trying!
Faith
I'm not vegan but I love this place! The atmosphere is different but peaceful. The food is really good! I would say if you like thai food and spicy food you should try this place out. It is vegan and a healthy option but totally delicious.

The BEST Thai food in the world. If you want a taste extravaganza eat here. Chef Pat wins over omnivores every day in all of his restaurants!!
Pf.lt.8088
Very good food!. They have so many different choices we couldn't even decide so we got one of each type, a rice dish a curry and a noodle and they were all very flavorful and we had so much left over! We will definitely come back here again!

One of the most delicious meals I've had. I had the chrysanthemum tea, which was delicately sweet and flavorful. The lettuce wraps with "chicken" were delicious and a larger portion than I expected for an appetizer. I took them home and they were just as delicious as leftovers. I had the Che choo (I think it was called), because I was curious about vegan shrimp. It was amazing. The coconut curry mixed sweet with the shrimp flavor and just a little hint of heat, all the flavors were represented as is with Asian cuisine. They gave me convenient take home containers. Really pretty, nice ambience. I'm vegetarian so it's such a relief to be able to pick anything off the menu. I don't live in Abq, but this is my favorite new restaurant to come to when I come back.

Awful service, great food!.. As usual the food was really good but the service was terrible. There were no condiments on the table and when the salt and pepper arrived the pots they came in were so filthy I didn't dare touch them. My iced tea was never refilled and apart from bringing the food to the table I never once saw my waitress. If the service doesn't improve I won't be a return customer.

Amazing green tea. My hubby and I were scouting for vegetarian restaurants and were delighted to find this place. Don't let the exterior fool you. Amazing Thai food and delicious teas await you inside.<br/><br/>Their green tea is actually a mulberry tea imported by her family from Thailand. The curry was delicious, but their pad Thai is out of this world. We have missed authentic pad Thai since our favorite local chef returned home to Thailand.<br/><br/>Amazing food for the price. Dessert sticky rice with mango finished the meal on a light, refreshing note.

Surprising Find. I was skeptical about trying curry dishes without the fish sauce in them, but I fell in love with this place after eating here! I ordered the dumplings in green curry sauce and the yellow curry with tofu. The green curry and dumplings were delicious, though the portion was honestly underwhelming for $7.95. The yellow curry was awesome, and the brown rice was the best I have ever had at a restaurant. I also loved how they shaped the rice into a heart. This portion was sufficient for a meal, but don't come here expecting large serving sizes. I will definitely be returning to this place, even though the lady at the register said I was "so big already" for 7 months pregnant and then rubbed my stomach without asking!!

Tom Ka Kai Soup Not For Fainthearted. Fighting off a cold? I recommend the Tom Ka Kai soup. It's very spicy, and hits the savory spot right with galangal, lemon grass and hefty strips of soy protein. Do take out so you can eat at home in your bathrobe.

Easy vegging in ABQ. Traveling with my vegetarian partner we came here and had a delish dinner. It's hard to compete when one of the best thai restaurants in the USA is around the corner from our house, but this was a better attempt than most. We'll do this again when back in ABQ. I don't usually care much about decor in a restaurant, however, this place was really comfortable and quite easy on the eyes.
C Andrew
Wow! Excellent restaurant, you''ll never even think that you're eating at a vegan restaurant. This place is a hidden gem! Come and try it, you will like it!

My husband and I love this place everything we've had is amazing. My favorite soup is tom ka kai its flavors never disappoint

Yummy!!!! Fresh, taste, wonderful, healthy. The best Thai food ever, & I love Thai food.

Fantastic. I'm not even vegetarian, much less vegan - but I really dig Thai food and cook it a lot myself. Based upon good recommendations from yelp, urbanspoon & tripadvisor, I tried Thai Vegan and it was f'ing awesome. I had Shrimp Spinach Noodle and it was one of the most delicious curry dishes I've ever eaten (and I eat curry a LOT). Plenty of food - stuffed - dinner + jasmine tea was only $14. Reviewers complaining about portion size or price must not get out much or work for a competing restaurant. Next time I'm in Albuquerque, I know exactly where I'm going for dinner!

Nastiest Vegan Place on earth!Better vegan places than this one!!!. I visited Thai vegan upon the great reviews and was quite please o find it nice and clean. However, the food was overpriced for such a little portion of food. I ordered their papaya salad which was pretty fresh, but it was drenched in fish sauce and was too salty. I had ordered papaya salad at other places before and none was this salty. There was no other flavors other than fish sauce. Might as well gave me a bowl of fish sauce. Then, when the two entrees came I was thoroughly disappointed. I had ordered soy chicken sauteed in peanut sauce with spinach, and I got soy chicken practically mushed in peanut butter It was so stick I literally had to peel the chicken apart. It was literally peanut butter and some soy chicken patties. The brown rice that came with my meal was shaped like a heart, cute, but not even the size of my palm. I finished it in literally 3 bites. The only thing that was semi tasty was its fried egg rolls. My friend's dish was more appetizing, but the portion is literally tooo small. We are petite people, but we need more food for its price. We also ordered their tom yum soup, which was again, the saltiest soup I have ever had. I literally felt like I was drinking saltwater. If you advertise, healthy food, healthy living, then make it healthy, overly salty food is not healthy. Wrongful advertisement! I will never go back to this place again, there are way better vegan dishes with reasonable prices and portions in ABQ. On top of that, their pictures are deceiving, you do not get what the picture advertises on the menu. We ordered dessert and got small scoops of coconut ice cream that tasted ok since they didn't make it, but it didn't come like how it looked like in the pictures. The picture had a lot of toppings, but they only gave us two pieces of each topping advertised in their pictures. Looks are deceiving! Beware. High price, small portion, overly salty dishes, not healthy at all!

Awesome, both locations!. I don't see any reason why people complain about this place. I eat here a couple of times a week. Where else can one get a vegan iced tea?? DELICIOUS. The beef broccoli, the orange chicken, the fish burger (all with fake meats) are incredible. I don't know what I'd do if this place was not around. Keep up the good work (and great service as well).
The Globalizer
Just didn't do it for me.. As much as I like the concept of a Thai Vegan restaurant, and vegan restaurants looking beyond a niche audience generally, it just wasn't enough. I'm not a vegan, and while some of the faux meats were fine, I left underwhelmed by the dishes overall. With faux meat or non-meat dishes, the seasonings, sauces, and vegetable ingredients are critical. I left feeling that the dishes simply were not particularly well-executed. (I had the seafood soup, but sampled appetizers and our party's other meals, with varying results.)<br/><br/>Overall, it wasn't bad, but I wonder how much of this restaurant's reputation is due to vegan-chic rather than actual quality food. I can't help but think that better Thai vegan dishes could be found at other Thai restaurants.
Allen
Tasty and unique. I looked far and wide for a vegan restaurant and this was perfect. Admittedly, the tofu shaped like a shrimp took a little getting used to, but the flavors are wonderful. They have one dish made with steamed mint leaves that I particuarly enjoy. If you insist on meat, the 'beef' is somewhat convincing.
Nohorsetown
Best Thai in town. It's vegan food, but every meat eater I've taken there has loved it. The fake meat is pretty good, and they have many varieties - I like the pepper steak, myself. Between me and my friends, we've tried the following entrees: Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, all the curries, P.E.T. (pumpkin, eggplant, tofu), Tom Kha Gai, Praram's Plate, and Prik King. All ranged from above-average to freakin' awesome. <br/><br/>The egg rolls are kinda shrimpy and likely pre-frozen, but the "freshy rolls" are good - almost as good as May Cafe's equivalent spring rolls, and they use more basil at Thai Vegan. If you want an appetizer, get the freshy rolls. Don't bother with the french fries - not that there's anything wrong with them - they're just french fries, and they're a bit overpriced, and you're at a Thai restaurant, not a diner.. so, yeah. Maybe the french fries are for your obnoxious niece or nephew who refuses to try new things (they also have veggie burgers and other "American-style" fare). Still, you shouldn't indulge them!<br/><br/>If you're into dessert, the banana egg rolls are good. Fried banana-chocolate-doughy things. I'm not into dessert, and I liked them, so they must be pretty good, eh?<br/><br/>Thai Vegan is less spicy than average, but you can ask them to heat it up a bit. Make sure you do, if that's what you want, because I've never heard a server bring it up, and the default spiciness is pretty weak.
GreenChile4Lyfe
Not good.. I went with my friend- we shared an order of tom kha with chicken. he ordered curry, I had American broccoli. The "gravy" accompanying the broccoli was watery and had absolutely no flavor beyond salt. The curry was mediocre, with very little spice when we asked for hot. The tom kha was okay, but nothing special. I'm a vegetarian but I believe that this kind of food suffers when there is no fish sauce used; there are plenty of other, less expensive, places in Albuquerque to have delicious Thai food.

Great Food. We were on the road and found this restaurant. It was the best! The service was so fast, and we loved everything we ordered (Yellow Curry, Ginger drink, and softy rolls). I wish there was one where I live.

Delicious. Last night was my birthday, so I got to choose a restaurant for dinner. After reading reviews, I decided to try Thai Vegan. I am a vegan living with a blind carnivore. When I told my partner where we were going, I quickly added that they had shrimp and chicken options, because that's what the reviews led me to believe. As I was reading the menu, I quickly realized my error but did not share the information with my partner. And, much to my delight, the waiter did not inform him when he ordered "shrimp." <br/>We ordered ginger tea. He doesn't usually drink hot tea but he was cold and he fell in love with it and drank the whole pot.<br/>We ordered three appetizers--tofu satay, spring rolls and steamed dumplings. All were absolutely wonderful. Next, we ordered and shared two entrees--chow mein with shrimp and pineapple fried rice. (My partner thought I was "compromising" on the shrimp because it was my birthday!) YUMMM!! VERY fresh, very flavorful. <br/>And, then, in a rare moment, we also ordered and shared two desserts--green tea ice cream and banana chocolate chip rolls. Again, terrific.<br/>I had enough leftovers for a nice lunch and the tab came to only $50.<br/>The food was terrific. My partner raved about it. This will be one of our favorite places to eat. I confess that I haven't told him it was completely vegan. We will go a few more times and then I will let him in on my secret.<br/>His only comment was that he thought the "shrimp" were a little "mushy." And, he attributed that to ordering seafood this far from the coast. LOL<br/><br/>Love, love, love being able to order ANYTHING on the menu.<br/>The waiter told me that their new location in Nob Hill on Central near Carlisle will open 11-15-2012. YAY! <br/>I have a new optimism for eating out in Albuquerque! This truly is a place that carnivores will enjoy also....

I brought my very carnivorous husband to Thai vegan expecting the worst. He loved it. He ordered the spinach noodle dish with shrimp which was slightly spicy and overall delicious. Both times I have been here I ordered the pineapple rice, I try to order something new each time I go somewhere but the rice was too delicious to pass up. It is fill of cashews, pineapple chunks and peppers etc. I crave it regularly these days. <br/>I love the atmosphere, the dining room is cozy and the servers are friendly. I even appreciate the odd touches like the green paint samples on the tables. <br/>This place has become one of my new faves.

The best vegan restaurant in the southwest! We became regulars here because the foods is fantastic and you don't have to worry about any animal products in your food. The service was always great...when we arrived everyone knew me and my husband by name. Even if you aren't vegan this is a great place to eat. I highly recommend this beautiful hidden gem to everyone visiting and living in Albuquerque.
Debbie.kelly.jake
Excellent Vegan Restaurant. This is the best vegetarian/vegan restaurant I’ve patronized. The quality and flavor of the dishes is excellent. The restaurant was quite busy when I arrived, but still my order came out very quickly. The servers were friendly and the prices were reasonable. Although the location is something to be desired, there is no trouble finding parking. I highly recommend going to Thai Vegan when you are in Albuquerque.

Wow!. I'm not even vegan and I've been to this place twice in the past week. It's amazing and the fact that it's animal-free is irrelevant. It's one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in ages and probably the best in Albuquerque. The food is fresh, prepared with love and the sauces are incredible. I tried the P.E.T. (pumpkin, eggplant, tofu) and it was incredibly good -- great spices and flavors and a nice blend of savory and pungent. The owner/chef comes out and "namaste's" the patrons and you can totally feel the great love vibe from the food and the staff. Love this place!
Keenan
Delicious!. Ate here around March 12th and found the food fresh and delicious. The staff was very friendly and the owner even came over to talk about peppers with us (I'm a big fan of spicy). For a measley $8.95 their dinner special is hard to beat. You get an entree, a spring roll, and a small salad. Presentation was nice and food hot and fresh. Saying the service was fast would be an understatement. Seemed like our food was on our table before we even sat down. <br/><br/>If you're an ominivore (or strict carnivore lol) don't let the "vegan" scare you away. It's good food and reasonably priced, and this is coming from someone who can probably eat more bacon cheeseburgers than you.
Jeremy Bergener
Delicious and not over-filling!. This place is the bee's knees! Everything is so good and so fresh. I myself am a meatitarian and I love this place. Have been here several times and have never been disappointed by the food or the service. Hope this place is around for many years to come!

Amazing! Best Thai in town.. I was treated to a dinner here by a couple of carnivores who told me that this place was great. Said not to be put off by the Vegan. Since I don't eat meat it sounded like a good idea. I was impressed with the speed our orders came to the table, and amazed at the flavors and variety. The spicy eggplant was cooked perfectly, with a complement of assorted veggies in a spicy savory sauce. Just hot enough. They didn't ask, they just read my mind (and it was just as good cold for lunch today). Glass noodle salad was excellent, as was the sweet chile fish. This place could get to be a habit.

GO NOW.. This is the best place I've been to in ABQ. Fresh. Healthy. Even meat eaters will find something delicious that they will LOVE. Please support this WONDERFUL local restaurant. If you haven't been. Go. You won't regret it.
Radio_Is_Cool
Total Vegan!. Wonderfully fresh food and great quality. The chef specials are some of the best Thai flavors we have ever experienced. Great energy and friendly staff. We wish Denver had a Thai Vegan location. Looking forward to our next trip to Thai Vegan!
Maria Gonzales Chavez
SO GOOD!. This place is great. I am vegetarian, and crave this place constantly. I haven't tried a few things on the menu, but everything I have tried has been beyond delicious. I love the curries and the freshy rolls, especially. The tempura is excellent too. The service is always friendly and fast. I can't believe I didn't find place sooner. This is my new favorite restaurant!
BCHOY
Non-vegan and I loved it. Although I am not vegan I was impressed with the menu selection at Thai vegan. There were lots of choices and all the food tasted very fresh. The service was great, wait staff were friendly and helpful. I particularly enjoyed the choc-chip banana rolls! vegan or not you will enjoy it
Liz Reding
Simple is always the best!. My husband and I just had lunch here and it was simply wonderful! The food was fresh and lovingly prepared, and the service was helpful and prompt. We'll be back!
Micah Garcia-Stroope
Hands down best vegan place in town. Tons of delicious and healthy options. And certainly better than any other Thai place (Thai orchid, bagkok cafe) in town.
Ash
Excellent Experience. Thai Vegan has earned a place on my list of favorite restaurants. The food is exceptional, the service is fantastic; whether you classify yourself as a vegan or an omnivore, I recommend giving this place a try.
HS
Yum!!!! Delicious food, calming atmosphere and friendly staff. The tasty, generous entrees were so good, and my vegan/vegetarian weary family even agreed. Tastiness tromps all stigmas. Go there!!!!
Thematches6
My favorite restaurant!. I've been coming to Thai Veganever since they opened almost a year ago, and I still can honestly say that I love this restaurant. Every time I go there all the servers know my husband and I, and if the chef is not busy he will graciously take the time to say hi to us and all the other costumers. I have recommended Thai vegan to all of my friends. If you get the chance to stop by there definitely order the grand tempura or any of their three delicious curries! Everything on their new menu is to die for, even if you are not vegan. They are my favorite. I highly advise you stop into Thai vegan!
Annie Sapon
Terrible first experience!. I'm not too sure about this place.. <br/>All of my friends have recommended this place and told me the food was great, but I have my doubts.<br/>The appetizers were great, the grand tempura was awesome.<br/>We ordered the Pad Thai, it didn't look fresh. The noodles were dry and stuck together. It was horrible. Also, I had asked for tofu, not soy chicken.<br/>My husband ordered the red curry, but the really tall waitress with terrible slang and messy hair butchered that order up too by giving us the yellow curry.<br/>I'm not sure how someone can mess up an order so bad when it's so slow. There were two other tables besides ours and she still messed up our order!<br/>The service was horrible, she didn't even come refill our glasses. We had to ask for a refill.<br/>When a restaurant is slow, you typically need to focus your attention on what tables you DO have.<br/>I waitressed for 8 years, customer service is key.<br/>Thai Vegan is definitely lacking customer service. Maybe I'll come back, maybe I won't. At this point, I'm not too sure what to think.
Carly Winnings
What's going on Thai Vegan?. My friends and I used to come in all the time, we absolutely love your food. Your freshy rolls and Thai tea are to die for! But your service has gone wrong. Where are all the original waitresses? These new girls don't know how to treat us. They don't come and check up on us like the originals did. We do love your food but this terrible service is pushing us away. You need to train these newbies how to talk to their customers too because there is a really tall girl who uses a ton of slang. It's not professional. Bring back the service so we can come back and enjoy your wonderful food!
Jen
The food was AMAZING! I absolutely loved the Pad Thai. my husband got the tom yum and it was great as well. the service was ok. we had a really tall skinny girl. she doesn't know how to treat her customers, that's for sure. you should never use the terms "sweet" "wicked" "for sure" etc. that slang is not professional. on top of that, she neglected us often and seemed overwhelmed and too stressed out to help us. the food was GREAT. but my husband and i was not impressed with the service. we will definitely be back though, some of the best Thai food we have ever had.
C-loc
Great food!! and service for the most part. The vegan food at this place is awesome, the Thai people are very friendly and the place all around has a warm atmosphere. <br/><br/>With the exception of one waitress who I think name was Shannon, or Sharon or something. Her attitude was rude and she neglected my table and was more concerned about the server boy who she continuously bickered with. She was on her phone and rude to the other waitresses in front of me and my husband. <br/><br/>On a higher note I would highly recommend this place! And with the limited choice of vegan dinning in abq, this place will get lots of my business. After converting to being vegan only 8 months ago I've come to realize how hard it is to find places that serve vegan food let alone a whole restaurant devoted to it. Thai Vegan is boss you can barley tell the pad thai is vegan at all!!!
Kristen
One of my top favorites!. Thai Vegan is an amazing resteraunt. The food is fabulous (love the pad thai w/soy chicken). The staff is fabulous & everytime I've been to the resteraunt the cheff has come out to say hello and see how if the food was enjoyable. I love how healthy, well priced, & tastey all of the food is. The resteraunt is a bit small, but I've been with my whole family of 12 +... to just a dinner date with a friend. Give it a try if you haven't all ready! Love it!
Olive
Delicious!. After recovering from the happy realization that I could order ANYTHING on the menu (and without having to request omissions and substitutions), I dug into a steaming hot plate of spinach noodles with "shrimp" and green curry sauce. Just the right amount of spicy heat and delicate coconut taste. Fresh steamed spinach was buried under the thick noodles and the whole thing was topped with chopped fresh tomatoes, shredded carrot, cilantro and impressively real-looking shrimp. The texture was spot on. One minor complaint was that the ginger tea was too sweet. Service is friendly and fast and the TVs showing what's happening in the kitchen assure that dropped food doesn't end up on a plate ;-).
Mr.teaspoon
The best Place For Vegan. I love their pad thai Vegan. The best Thai restaurant ever.<br/>thank you Thai Vegan.
Atlantan
Maybe I'll give them another chance.... After eyeing this place for a couple of months, I decided to try dinner here with my wife and daughter. The chicken satay appetizer appeared almost instantly. The 5 slabs of chick-un were still cool and gummy in the middle, obviously defrosted and nuked instead of grilled or even sauteed. Good curry sauce coating, but nasty, over-sweetened peanut goo dip. Strike one.<br/><br/>The See-Ew with faux chicken and flat noodles was straight-ahead, simple and tasty. Line drive, barely foul.<br/><br/>The "spicy" eggplant with pepper steak was completely mild, with about 6 cubic centimeters of eggplant. So, not as described in the menu, and bland without the needed chili boost. Strike two. <br/><br/>However, the egg rolls were quite good. Pop foul.<br/><br/>The green curry with unshrimp and spinach and green noodles was pretty good, but sweetened above and beyond the unexpected coconut milk, and just tasted too Americanized. Strike two-and-a-half.<br/><br/>OK, our waitress was clueless - new to the waitron game, didn't know the menu and was unable to figure out how to give us go boxes and a check. Just the luck of the draw. Another pop-up foul.<br/><br/>So, one more chance - I like the idea of a vegan resto in Thai Vegan's location. But chef, pay some more attention to making sure each dish is cooked correctly, and go easy on the sugar, OK? Some customers have eaten real Thai food, without the sugar rush.

Some Pluses, Some Minuses. I ordered the "Steam Curry Dumplings" appetizer (not to be confused with the "Veggie Dumplings.") They were covered in a DELICIOUS green curry sauce, and I'd recommend them, because of the sauce.<br/>As a main dish I ordered "Fresh Ginger." The sauce was nothing special (salty with little other flavor), and I expected many pieces of fresh ginger but tasted NONE. I would not recommend this dish.<br/>You can choose add-ins, such as tofu or soy chicken or soy fish. A word of warning: the soy chicken is the flat type of seitan, not bad but very different from what I think of when I think of "soy chicken." They should just call it "seitan."<br/>Dinner entrees come with a side salad (just lettuce, a piece of cucumber, and a piece of tomato) covered in a too-sweet dressing. The salad didn't add to the dish.<br/>You also receive 2 spring rolls with a nice dipping sauce. However, the spring rolls were cold (as if they'd been sitting at room temperature for awhile.)<br/>On the plus side, it's served with nice whole-grain rice, and we were happy with the amount of vegetables.<br/>For dessert, the chef came out and talked us into ordering mango slices over sweet rice with toasted sesame seeds sprinkled on top. The mangos were nice and ripe, but I would not recommend this dessert, as it mainly consists of a pile of sugary rice with no special flavor (beyond sesame seeds, which I thought were overly toasted.) My friend thought it needed more coconut, and we weren't interested in finishing it.<br/>We regretted not ordering a red or green curry dish or the banana chocolate chip rolls, as recommended in the Alibi review. <br/>Service was good; we were very happy with one of our waitresses, a nice younger female. <br/>I will go back but next time order more promising dishes. Based on the appetizer, I'm sure the curry is wonderful.

A pleasant surprise. Not only were we pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food (as omnivores), we were baffled by how 'meaty' the fake meat tasted. Whether you are a vegan, a vegetarian or an omnivore, you'll be treated to eating here. I didn't begrudge the $35+ we spent on meals for two; that's usually more than we'd spend for Asian food. <br/><br/>Service was a wee bit slow, but thoughtful. As we were finishing our meal, acquaintances ended up sitting at the next table over. They were addicted to the place and had already been there many times.

What. really?. I may have just joined this newfangled urbanspoon but please do not discredit this uber food nerd.<br/><br/>what can i say about thai vegan aside from HOLY CRAP VEGAN FOOD!! kind of a rare thing to find in a place like albuquerque, let alone new mexico. besides being primarily vegan, (and i myself not being vegan nor vegetarian), i continue to spread the word high and low as to how delicious this restaurant is.<br/><br/>now on to much needed detail...<br/><br/>the food was quite delicious, i had the yellow curry and "chicken" satay (must haves, at least to me, to compare and contrast). the satay arrived in timely fashion, well prepared and carefully done. their peanut sauce is quite delectable but it could be bottled. the curry came with a salad (plain but fresh and tasty) and eggroll (gross). the curry itself was also yummy but once again i could see it being from a store bought paste as it had much of the same flavor profile as the peanut sauce. nothing was overcooked, nothing tasted poorly seasoned, this restaurant is definitely something to rave about (especially for your carnivore-challenged folk). will return soonish.<br/><br/>i did find it rather odd that they offer hamburgers and other assorted "non vegan" treats as well. hypocrisy? who knows the reasoning but i suggest a trimmer menu.

I think its great. Thai is a good food that makes you full without the losing cells to fat. Order their curry, because it is delicious! Kinda expensive when you don't order off the lunch menu.

Not just for vegans/vegetarians. Great Thai food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I'm not usually a fan of "fake meat" but I really enjoyed the "shrimp" and "chicken" and I will be back.

The best Thai in Alb, vegan or not!. Absolutely deletable. The food was incredibly fresh, their selection was fantastic, and the staff was genuinely friendly. This place would be great for non vegetarians as well, as only two of the five people we went with were vegetarians! And the non vegs loved it just as much. The vegan meats are some of the best I've ever tried. We got the spring rolls and lunch specials, I personally enjoyed the sweet and sour with fish, absolutely delicious. The plates are huge, I eat a lot, and I couldn't even finish it! The restaurant itself is a lovely little colorful place which is clean and friendly. I went two days ago and I am dying to go again!!!

Highly Recommended!. Excellent new place in town - the first 100% vegan restaurant in ABQ!<br/><br/>I highly recommend the Orange 'Chicken' and the Peppered 'Beef' dishes. The high quality meat substitutes used here are comparable to some of the better vegan places that i've been to in California, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. I also recommend the banana chocolate rolls for dessert!<br/><br/>We found a friendly and extremely helpful staff who even helped carry our food to the vehicle!<br/><br/>I applaud this restaurant's decision to open 100% vegan and not catering to the ignorant masses of dairy and egg eating 'vegetarians' or trying to make $$$ at the expense of their customer's longevity. (Even Annapurna Chai House serves up milk and cheese, knowing full well how detrimental it is to their client's health - not to mention the horrible customer service.)<br/><br/>We are thrilled that THAI VEGAN is here in town!

Excellent Thai Food... and it's all vegan. This restaurant has taken my two favorite words "Thai" and "Vegan" and combined them to create a name that beacons to me and makes my mouth water every time I hear it. So it's good that they did not disappoint me! <br/>Today was their opening day and I was greeted by an excited happy staff anxious to get me seated and take my order. When they put the huge menu in front of me, I suddenly realized that deciding what to order by shooting for the vegetarian section and eliminating all the non-vegan items was just not going to work. The size of the menu is both thrilling and overwhelming. <br/>I decided I would get the spring rolls and the larb (a Thai salad that has lime juice, ginger, mint, onions, and all kinds of other herby goodness) with "chicken". The spring rolls and the salad were especially fresh, crispy, and flavorful. The faux chicken was especially convincing and remarkable. The menu boasts several faux meats including chicken, fish, pepper steak, and shrimp. If you don't feel like faux meat, tofu is also available. <br/>The atmosphere of the restaurant was many of the Thai restaurants in Albuquerque: bright, casual, and laid back. <br/>Even though I am partial to Thai food, the menu also has several items for someone who would like to eat vegan, but doesn't feel like Thai Food: veggie burgers, fries, and several wraps. <br/>This place is not only a superb vegan restaurant. It's also an excellent Thai restaurant. If you like Thai food, this restaurant is a "must try".

After we finished our meal, the chef was back to see if we enjoyed it. We couldn’t stop ourselves from raving, and he gave a little bow in thanks. As we were leaving, we noticed the chef yet again. This time he was standing on top of a vehicle with a drill and some glue, adjusting the sign over the restaurant. He affixed the letter “V”, careful to make it straight again. All in a day’s work!<br/>

At Vegan Thai, the capable hands belong to chef-owner Pat Phomnoi and they’re on display for all diners to admire. Closed-circuit cameras pointed at a very assiduous kitchen broadcast the chef’s every deft move as he simultaneously prepares multiple dishes. There’s no wasted motion in the chef’s experienced hands. Nor is there any animated interplay with his assistant as you may see depicted on television where screaming and chaos seem to dominate the kitchen.
