Chiodas Trattoria

We really enjoyed dinner at Chioda’s last night, and liked almost everything about the place (this was my maiden visit, but Sis had been here once before a few years ago), from this small eatery’s charming homey atmosphere and soothing Italian background music (it reminded me a bit of the former Angela’s on Park Ave.), to the tiramisu we shared for dessert. The only thing we didn’t care for is the fact that they do not open on New Year’s Day. We would have liked to plan a return visit for then, but, sadly, we’ll have to make other arrangements (since we were kids, family tradition would dictate an annual New Year’s Day visit to another Worcester landmark, Dino’s Ristorante. But over recent years, we have been disappointed with the changes in Dino’s, and thusly, we have put an end to that tradition). We were off to a good start with the complimentary warm bread slices served with olive oil infused with balsamic vinegar and grated cheese---perfect. Our shared calamari appetizer was a little different than the usual, the tender fried ringlets and tentacles benefiting greatly by the addition of sliced banana peppers, garlic and baby spinach leaves. The accompanying red sauce was delicious and, I’m certain, homemade. While sipping her glass of Montepulciano, Sis hungrily polished off her hearty plate of ravioli, topped with that same red sauce, a meatball and a sausage. The ravioli was very good, as was the texturally-pleasing and flavorful meatball, but the sausage was delectable and tasted freshly made. She really enjoys the “basics,” as do I, and sometimes we judge Italian-American restaurants on these staples. My entrée, Veal Neapolitan, was well-chosen and everything I thought it would be. I took delight in my tender sautéed veal cutlets, which were draped with an earthy mélange of Portobello mushroom, eggplant, and red peppers, and topped with gooey melted mozzarella, all afloat in a velvety but light sauce---for me, a perfect marriage of flavors. After I decided to box up half the dish for a future lavish lunch, Sis and I shared a heavenly slice of “Mochamisu,” which was pretty much a traditional tiramisu. Sis also indulged in a cup of espresso. Nicole, our server for the evening and daughter of the owners, was very personable and more than happy to answer all the questions we put to her. Our dining experience advanced at a good pace, not too slow, but not rushed either. Well done, Chioda’s. We’ll most certainly be back. For we have found our new Italian home.

hands down the BEST Italian food in Worcester. maybe even the best I've ever had. the gnocchi is a must try. the chicken picatta is super flavorful. calamari appetizer is also a must. cute vibe with friendly staff! everytime I go it gets better.

First visit definitely not last! Started with Calamari, it was as good as it gets. Taste of Italy was delish. My partner had a chicken pasta with white sauce, best sauce I ever tasted in town...yum! Too full to try dessert. Highly recommended!

OMG our favorite Italian restaraunt in Worcester... We always say we are going to try something different and we end up ordering the same favorite thing we always do... we have brought so many friends with us and they absolutely love it here as well!
