The Commons

Wow, just wow. What a lovely cafe and fantastic staff. My husband and I decided to head to Woodinville for Easter dinner, so we booked an early evening dinner here a week or so before. We used to live in Redmond and would drive by this place all the time when we'd go to Woodinville, but never thought to stop in - it's a shame we didn't. First off, every person employed here is a gem! That sounds corny, but everyone we spoke with was sincerely kind but also professional. There is an air of happiness about this place and it shows in the faces of the patrons eating there. Our server's name escapes me but he was fantastic. Not obtrusive, and there with a quick fill-your-glass and politely converse (although he was funny, too) and leave. He recommended the jambalaya, which I had. It was cooked perfectly - not overly hot but not mild, either - just the right amount of kick. One complaint I have with getting jambalaya at restaurants is they can't get the rice "right" - not here. It was so delicious. Husband had fish and chips. He enjoyed all of it, especially the coleslaw but only wished there was more slaw and fewer fries. Fish was fresh and while the breading was heavy, it was cooked to perfection - nice, flaky, and very white, clean cod. We opted to split a pretzel for an appetizer; I only had a few bites as I saw the other diners and the portions. The pretzel was fresh out of the oven and the accompanying mustard and spread were the perfect complements to the fresh (pretzel) bread. Our drinks were well-prepared. Husband opted for a beer and loved the recommendation; I opted for a sidecar, which was made just as it should be and, again, like jambalaya - easy to mess up, but not here. They're rocking the bar and the kitchen at The Commons. Finally, we rarely get dessert but decided to take home a mini loaf of lemon poppyseed cake to split. It was moist and sweet. (On a side note, we saw their famous cinnamon roll and, wow, you could split it with three friends). We are not "brunch people" but plan to come in again specifically for that purpose, as The Commons is a great weekend spot (and weekday, too).

Here eating dinner right now. The steak frites are amaaaazing! Thomas John (our waiter) is delightful and amaaaaaazing!! Thanks tommy for suggesting the lemon aioli with my fries 😉 amazing. Will be coming back more often for the delicious food and awesome staff!!

Amazing and fun flavor combinations. Really delicious and unique food. Classy atmosphere and fun assortment of items to browse. More on the expensive side but a really fun treat.

Great food and drinks. Love the tortilla soup, sweet potato fries. Fish and chips were okay.

The Commons was spectacular before the pandemic and they continue to wow me! We were worried about parking, but there is a new dirt lot on the other side of the building. Great drinks and menu, with generous portions! Lots of outdoor seating options, but it does get cold at night. A great place to stop before or after wine tasting!
