Gene's Chinese Flatbread Cafe

Honestly I thought it was okay.. The spiciest level isn’t spicy so it’s totally okay to try out. I hope in the future they can add more spice levels! I got the cumin lamb hand pulled noodles and the hot and sour dumpling soup, and I think the pork with the hand pulled noodles would’ve been a better choice than the lamb. The saltiness of the pork helps with the greasiness of the noodles (which were thick and amazing). I think it also helps the flavor as well because the noodles on its own was a bit bland. The lamb didn’t really do much for me, and The dumplings were alright. However, the owner was super sweet and helpful! They have different methods of payment for cash and card users. Quick service too. Of course, everyone has different tastes! But I believe with small flavor improvements this could’ve been spot on. xx

This far east, it’s hard to find Xi’an food that is THIS authentic. I mean, it’s almost literally from the other side of the world. The cumin lamb is true to its name - spiced perfectly and grilled to perfection. I also ordered the hand-pulled noodles and lamb flatbread sandwiches. The hand-pulled noodles were pretty good, but not amazing. Gene’s is currently only open for take-out, so perhaps they’ll be better when eaten freshly out of the kitchen. It could’ve done without the shredded vegetables on top - the textural contrast doesn’t quite work with the bouncy wide noodles in my opinion. The lamb flatbread sandwich was excellent. Really juicy, lamby, and filling. It was enough to last me the entire day. What a bang for your buck.

I ordered the hot and sour with noodles and tea egg and it was absolutely the best soup and noodles I have ever had. The tea egg was so tasty and fresh. Super fresh tender meat, yummy veg and savory spicy broth. The noodles are thick and big and fun to eat. Usually I go to Cambridge for my noodle fill but this is definitely my new go-to spot. Loved it!

Many times my friends and I had stomachache after eating in this restaurants. Since we like noodles we come often but they all of a sudden close dine in at 7:20p even they actually close at 8p. We used to come a lot around 7:30 and this is really unfriendly and rude. Not recommended. Staff are very lazy and the service/food quality is uncertain.
