The Pizza Shack

Nostalgic style (80's-90's) pizzeria with a great and helpful staff. The food was good and came out fresh, the pizza is quite good with a premium crust. Caesar salad was fresh and served cold as it supposed to. Just one thing, do Not get the calamari! It's over-priced, over salted, tough to chew, and honestly just terrible. I thought maybe it was just our order but as we were leaving I noticed that another table didn't even touch their calamari. Great pizza, terrible calamari!

Oh, my, can you hear that crispy, crunchy crust? Gosh I wish you could! Crunchy on the outside, tender inside with a nice yeasty flavor. Great dough that you can watch being spun into crust through the kitchen window…if you’re in the right area. I could eat the crust by itself, but add toppings and you have a winner! We’ve been here twice while vacationing in the area. The Margherita and the BBQ Chicken pizza are very flavorful. They use fresh ingredients…though the Margherita could use fresh julienned basil. The 2 of us shared a small salad both times. Caprese or Greek salad, you can’t go wrong. Service has been wonderful…haven’t seen so many young folks working in one place in a long time. Never had to wait for a drink refill, they brought an extra plate for the salads without being asked…great service. If we lived here, this would be our go-to place!!

You'd think a restaurant with the word, "Shack" in it in a tiny southeast Texas town would be a bit of a gamble, but this is a real treat. I was struck by the initial resemblance to Birraporettis in Houston where I used to work in the 80s. The parking lot was full on a Saturday afternoon which is always a good sign. Although the place was busy I was greeted almost as soon as I walked in, and seated shortly afterwards. The staff were very friendly and I could see them chatting with the regulars to make sure everything was well with them. My server was attentive and noticed I wanted a to-go box without me even asking. That level of attention seemed to be present with all the staff. Ah yes the food. Outstanding. I kept forgetting to wait to eat before I took a pic. Hope that doesn't distract from the photos. The tiramisu was amazing as was the pizza and wine. I'm glad I stopped by. I'll do so again soon.

I've drove past this place so many times always saying one of these days I'm going to give them a try. Well that day finally came and I'm so glad it did. Sorry it took so long. Best pizza I've had in years. And as my friend and I waited for our pizza we watched all the food being brought out for other tables. Everything looked wonderful. Staff was very friendly and kind. Service was fairly quick concerning it was lunch time and our pizza was made fresh. I will definitely be back. It's a little drive for me but this will be my pizza go to for now on. ❤❤
