Mcl Cafeteria

Had a great dinner with my wife here. We've been going here for several years, but hadn't been there for a while. Food choices were great. Staff was helpful and friendly. Not much of a crowd either. Went right in, got through the line quickly, and got a cozy table. Great "date night" dinner. We made our own "dessert" after we got home.😉

I called in for a take out order. They had a special for Father's Day, prime rib. I ordered that. It was reasonably priced in comparison to other restaurants, while at the same time had the quality of those other restaurants. The food was ready when I got there, and was still warm when I got home. As always, the food was delicious. The only negative was that I thought the portions of the side dishes were smaller than if I had eaten inside the restaurant.

The food here is absolutely delicious. The bakery items are wonderful and even if you eat in you can take things home. Prices are high here but worth it. Staff are kind and will assist you with carrying your tray to your table and removing plates and things. We are never disappointed when we go here.

My mom loves the fried chicken and fresh fruit and pies. The people behind the counter were very patient while I read out all of her side dish options twice 😊 and was not trying to be rude but was on my cell phone they were all so sweet. My father passed away two weeks ago and I wanted to make sure she had a balanced meal she would actually eat because he was her world and later this month they would have been married 50 years. Thank you for your patience and allowing her to pick what she wanted. I felt embarrassed for being on my phone but everyone was caring and never made me feel bad about it 💗 I didn't even tell them they were just amazing without having to. The next time I come i will order ahead online it was 7:30pm and I knew you were about to close. Thanks again for everyone who helped me and please let them know they brought joy to me and my mom. Keep up the great work!!

This is a pure trade off between value and taste. The portions could feed two or three people. But it's still cafeteria food. Green beans were overcooked and flavorless. Mac and cheese was extremely cheesy - a good thing! - but the Mac was overcooked. At least not gelatinous, though. Meanwhile, the lasagna was almost indistinguishable from the sauce it was so soft. But the sauce itself had good flavor, which was a plus. Beets looked like perfect balls, a bit like a smaller version of melon balls, but also with decent flavor, yet not too distinguishable from canned. The rolls were enormous and were good, but not too different from store-bought. My stuffed chicken breast was tender. But, whether it was the gravy or not, too salty. And the dressing was also overcooked and understandably without any distinguishable celery. (And no, distinguishable isn't the word of the day - it just seems like it.) But it was rather large. The vanilla cake with frosting, though! If there were a reason to go back, that would absolutely be it (foodwise, anyway). Moist and delicious with a good frosting which wasn't overpoweringly sweet, it was the star of the show. [Untasted was a piece of sweet potato pie and a piece of strawberry pie. The former had no whip cream and it wasn't apparent whether one could ask for it or ice cream.] The service was really good. The lady and man behind the counter were quite friendly. And once you sit down, the server checks to see if you need anything. Extras, like a dessert you decide you want, can be paid at the table. Note: my 91-year-old MIL loves this place.

If I could rate it zero stars, I would. WARNING to all who use debit/credit cards for purchase. I was charged twice for my food. When I discovered the error on my bank statement, I took the information along with my receipt which I still had to MCL Restaurant & Bakery Whitehall. The manager basically ignored my complaint, said it was my bank's fault and offered no solution to either a refund or credit. I called my bank while in their parking lot and was told that they tried to swipe my card 4 times and 2 of times was able to get authorization. I truly believe they may have some type of scam going, because the person who waited on me, asked if I wanted my receipt. Why ask if I want the receipt when it was right there readily available? I will never patronize this restaurant again!
