The chicken here lives up to it's name, pollo rico. The sauce are nice and the fries and chicken are perfect.

It's not a fancy sit down place. About the same as your local fast food joint. But the food is excellent.

This place is CHAOS. The Atmosphere is AUTHENTIC... lol
HOWEVER, the food was absolutely delicious, the portion sizes were competitive, only reason I was willing to wait so long. Yes, it took a while to get the food but the Chicken & Yuca was well worth it.

We ordered a family meal with salad, beans/rice through Uber Eats. Food was highly exceptional. I’ve been to Sardis and Limas, both Peruvian restaurants and neither of those places can touch El Pollo Rico! There was so much flavor in the chicken and the beans. The salad was also fresh!

I'm a big fan of El Pollo. I ordered takeout and delivery all the time. El Pollo Rico make some of the best chicken in the DMV area. The chicken is delicious, especially if you can get it hot (warm), right off the grill, it taste amazing.
Their chicken is perfectly seasoned, it doesn't have that feathery/ poultry smell that grilled chicken sometimes have when they haven't been properly cleaned or seasoned. You can definitely know this when you have some leftover chicken. Even after two days in the fridge El Pollo Rico chicken is still tasty and doesn't have any order.
The rice and red beans are excellent. The only side that I found unsatisfactory was their coleslaw.

3 whole chickens cut into 8 pieces for a Bookclub meeting. The chicken was flavorful, moist and well seasoned. Iit was packed in a large very sturdy aluminum pan. I playtered and garnished it and boy was it a huge hit. Several people asked where I got it. I would highly recommend and next time I will get sides.( For this event I made the sides)

One of the better chicken places in the area. Very solid quality but not quite outstanding. Chickens have gotten pretty small and quality of meat is only fair. Fried are maybe 3 out of 5, ok but not with you going out of the way to order.

The best Peruvian chicken in the DC metro area. This is the place that first started the rotisserie chicken 🍗. All the others copied. There are some others that are real good but this is the original. Must try.
Hope you like it as much as my family and I do.

Visiting Maryland for work and some colleagues took me to El Pollo Rico for dinner. Never would have found or gone to this place on my own, so I’m grateful that they took me here. Definitely not the place to go if you’re prissy or even expect your restaurants not to look like a dive bar and be covered in a layer of grime and bathroom doors not locking and your fellow diners looking real sketch.
Considering that potatoes have been cultivated by Peruvians for 10,000 years I don’t know why I was surprised that they were fried to perfection. I love fries, but I hate most fries at restaurants, especially those wedge slices because they are never crispy enough. These fries where perfectly crispy outside and soft on the inside and were very airy. I’m amazed.
The chicken was perfectly cooked, seasoned and was very moist. The rice was good and the beans looked like perfection. Nice beautifully brown color to the beans and broth but would have benefited from some more salt.
Overall, I would recommend this place and wish there was one close to home for me.

If you're from the area this place is a staple, there are a lot of places like it but nothing is quite the same. The sauces in my opinion are just better than other places, its definitely a go to.
