A downtown that is revitalizing itself always profits from the addition of a coffee shop. Fortunately, Downtown Hazleton now has one with the recently opened Grateful Roast Coffee (GRC, GRC Hazy) on East Broad St. I very much enjoyed my lunch there during my recent visit to the city. This spotlessly clean café welcomes you with bright lighting, wood floors, interesting artwork, a very friendly staff and a hipster vibe. Conveniently situated, it is a fast walk for office workers and downtown residents alike. Street parking is both available and abundant. GRC Hazy (the “Hazy” moniker is kind of catchy) offers a varied menu. From breakfast to lunchtime burgers, sandwiches and salads, there is something for everyone. There is sufficient depth such that healthier options are also available in abundance. The drink menu is equally varied featuring GRC roasted coffees. Quality is very much emphasized at GRC. This focus becomes particularly evident as you settle into your drink and/or meal. Most menu items are made to order or, are pre-made with fresh ingredients that, per my discussion with those that work there, are sourced locally to the extent that it is possible to do so. Unavoidably, using the best will increase the cost but, to me, it is well worth it given the experience that is provided. For my lunch, I enjoyed the Turkey BLT accompanied by the House Brewed Coffee. Turkey, bacon, crisp lettuce and tomato were piled on really outstanding sourdough bread and was served with chips and pickle wedge. The coffee was piping hot, aromatic and rich in taste. A free refill is offered with the House mug. GRC is a wonderful addition to Hazleton’s Downtown. Hopefully, as revitalization continues, it will bring with it more people working, living and enjoying cultural and entertainment opportunities. As this happens, I can only hope that GRC plays a central role as a gathering spot for many. I therefore highly recommend a visit to Grateful Roast Coffee and I wish them much success.

I'm happy to discover this great new coffeehouse cafe! Whimsically remodeled (with modern decor and succulents on the tables) into a chic and cozy shop, this coffeehouse boasted an excellent roast. Flavorful and rich, I strongly recommended trying Grateful Roast coffee for yourself. Not only do they have great coffee but they offer food as well, which included vegan and vegetarian options. I will certainly be back to try more of their menu and post more photos. The barista we had was colorfully attentive, stylish and knowledgeable... everything you'd want in a hip new store. A+ GRC!
