Josie's Jamerican Kitchen

Simply The Bomb!! My friend and I had our reservations before visiting. We expected the usual Caribbean Restaurant experience ( those who know what I'm talking about, know what I'm talking about lol) but were so very pleased with our service here. This is a true. FAMILY owned restaurant. We visited with a Groupon as we were in the area and upon being seated we were treated to a delight of a meal. The portions are generous. The drinks are STRONG. And they're just full of good vibes. Next time I'm in the area I gotta stop here, no doubt about it!! Thanks, Josie's!!

My husband knows how much I LOVE red snapper. A few days before my birthday, he stopped into the restaurant to ask if reservations are needed and specifically ask about the fish! He was assured that anytime on Friday would be fine and would have plenty of fish. So, we show up on Friday, January 10, 2020 (my birthday) and guess what! No kid's meals, no Jamaican patties, and not only no red snapper, but NO FISH AT ALL! The waitress attempted to sell her children's Dino Nuggets to my toddler for the same price as their overprices children's menu of $9.99. In addition to not having many items on the menu, the costumer service was horrible and we decided to leave. No apologies or anything. I would be surprised if the restaurant remains open. It's is unfortunate because I was looking forward to delicious Jamaican cuisine.

What a great place. Reasonably priced and tasty food. I'm not sure how authentic it is, but it is a great change from your standard fare. We weren't sure what to order, as we aren't familiar with Jamaican food, and the staff helped us pick some choices, going with jerk chicken wings to start, Curry goat and Oxtail. All were awesome. Happened to show up on a night with a band which made it all the better. Try the tamarind juice drink! Easy on and off the highway with plenty of parking. Colorful bar area when you first walk in, and a seating area with about a dozen+ tables around the corner.

Wow !! What a fantastic lunch this place serves up . The friendliness of the staff is second to none and those plaintain chips they offer at each table are ridiculously good. The jerk chicken and Curry Goat were both phenomenal in freshness , flavor , and authentic spices. Portion size is excellent and you can really taste the passion in this food as Mama Josie herself is in the kitchen creating her magic. Yes , there is a Josie and she will personally come out and mingle with you . I highly recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to return .

Went to Josie’s jamerican kitchen today with my friend— We were absolutely delighted with our food. It’s a small restaurant - in a small plaza - off Scott road in Waterbury, Ct. ( behind Ninos restaurant ) We wanted to try this place but hadn’t had the chance to - till today. It is tastefully decorated in bright colors and West Indies flair. The cook and waitress/hostess were both very pleasant. And the food was served quickly but not rushed. We had the curry shrimp dinner and the curry goat dinner. Both were served with cabbage carrots and rice and beans. All was delicious!!! The goat meat melted in your mouth — and the shrimp was excellent. We are already making plans to go again soon!! It’s a hidden gem- if you like Caribbean food you have to try this place! They have specials on certain days and happy hour deals as well! Go and check Josie’s out- you will be glad you did!! I know we were !!

As a child I loved to eat salt fish fritters. That was what caught my eye on the menu at Josie’s. I bit into one and was brought right back to my childhood. It tasted better than the ones I had as a child. All the food there is great and authentic. The sauces are even homemade. I am glad this taste has been brought to the city of Waterbury.
