Washington General Store

After reading such wonderful reviews from others who have visited this place, my wife and I thought we'd check this place out today. When we showed up the person that took our order let us know that it would be a half hour wait for food due to it being busy. We wait over an hour and decided to leave. During our hour sitting outside no one came to check on us, give us an update on our order. We watched many people come and go and we also saw people come after we arrived and receive food. There was a group of six people that sat outside near us that received an apology for the delay in getting their food, got napkins, silverware, and food, but my wife and I were ignored the whole time we were there. The chef even came out to smoke and vent and talk to us about how rough it was in the kitchen today. Never asked if we had ordered something or if we were waiting, just complained about how stressful it was today. I was trying to understand that as there was only my wife and I and six people outside waiting on food. This experience was disappointing based on the reviews and what others had said about this place. I was expecting a little better experience. I'm not sure that I will come back any time soon, but if you go, I would recommend calling ahead to check on service and wait times.

Once you find Washington, NH, you will treasure the finds here. Being a neighbor of the store (in Marlow, just over the mountain), we rely on the store for those little "emergency" items on the way home, especially since they are the only store for miles. The staff is always friendly and I have never gotten any food that didn't please. It's like Mayberry in New Hampshire.
