Authentic piece of Cartegena in DC: clean, cozy coffee haven with a good number of seatings, particularly the outdoor tables perfect for the quintessential cafe experience: people watching or soaking up the rays in warmer months. The most outstanding feature of this hidden gem of a cafe is the delectable wide assortment s of pastries and unique tropicana drinks. Take a break from that Starsuks fast-food that catered to the snotty foreign corp crowds/scruffy GW brats two blocks down and dive into this quirky Latin-flavored alternative for a real hands-on foreign service experience, hand-picked by senor Juan himself!
When i went to Colombia, i fell in love with this coffee and it became on my favorites. I was supeeer happy to found out they have a location in DC. If you are a coffee lover and appreciate great coffee, try Juan Valdes!!!
I haven't had Juan Valdez in about 3 years! And I was so happy I found this store!!! Coffe is as good as it is in Colombian stores!! I loved it!!! We need one in Seattle please!!!
Right outside of the Washington DC Passport Parking deck.
The staff were friendly and answered my questions and I was able to quickly get a seat inside from the cold and order a marble loaf slice warmed and an iced caramel latte.
Delicious.
They had some new cold brew lattes flavored vanilla, chocolate and hazelnut. Yum! Wish I’d seen that first!
Great first impression. My latte was delicious with a bold flavor.
The Coffee was perfect. Brewed just right; not burnt like Starbucks, and not overly hot. The price is reasonable.
My only complaint, the cashier was friendly, but really not with it. Especially for such a fast-pace area. She didn't seem new either, just really in no hurry whatsoever.
They make cafe con leche the way my grandmother did, and serve it in a nice china cup! Cosmopolitan atmosphere with people from all over the world to meet and talk too. Much better experience than any Starbucks.
Good coffee and Latin Specialty's like dulce de leche to add to your hot beverage. Nice sitting outside even if it is on a busy Corner which can get loud. They also play nice music which is always fun. Their website shows that they have pour over coffee, but when I asked about it the cashier didn't know what I was talking about.
Busy cozy place, and a little crowded. Coffee tastes really good. I'll give them 5 stars despite the fact they did not have whole milk for my coffee. I used half and half instead.
If you love Colombian food this place is great. I recommend the Arequipe Nevado (think Frappucino). It's not a full blown restaurant but they have a good selection of "snacks". It's basically a Colombian Starbucks. It's always a must visit for us when we're in DC.

Very corporate atmosphere (due to location), but delicious coffee and Latin American treats. I had a small iced campesino, a coffee with sugar, cinnamon and a touch of lemon. I want to try the pastries next time!
