This is my second time visiting Hando medo. First time, I was thrilled to try this place. I feel like depending on the sushi chef, the taste could vary. Today it was pretty disappointing compared to last time. However overall, it is a goto sushi place in DC. By the way I am visiting from New York. Would recommend if you want to try something new in terms of sushi- instead of getting typical rolls and sashimi. Clean, good atmosphere and nice service!
Good sushi...but tough, uncut seaweed wrap. Maybe it's a CA thing, but we're used to bite-sized slices. That being said, I'd recommend the spicy tuna, blue crab and scallop rolls. And you can't go wrong with Japanese beer. Plus you get a "growing" towel at the end for clean-up.
Can I just say this was my favorite spot in DC so far? Wow, the salmon was so fresh and fatty that you could see the oil on the paper! Okay, maybe that is off-putting for some folks but fatty salmon is soooo amazing. The scallop was creamy, jalapeño hamachi tasted fresh, inari was sweet and the spicy tuna was spicy and full of flavor. You're handed one hand roll at a time, that way, your seaweed is nice and crispy while the rice and other ingredients can be assembled upon finishing one right after the other. Plus, the prices are really nice for such high quality fish. Staff is really nice and I highly recommend stopping by here for Sunday lunch!
This place is super classy! They make your sushi rolls in front of you as you are eating which is great. There are all sorts of touches that make this place have great vibes, like the magic hand towels you dip in water and they expand, and the perfectly placed plates, personal soy sauce and ginger. The spicy tuna roll is actually really spicy! But good. The yellowtail jalapeño was also nice. The sweet potato roll was different but very tasty. I would recommend getting 3 rolls. 4 was a bit too many for most people in our party.
I like it and atmosphere is so good!!
All staff is kind .
Tasty is good and price is reasonable .!!
Tuna and lobster are so good !
I will visit again later~
Thanks! :)
Excellent place. A fan of the concept as the food is very fresh. Personally loved the Lobster and Shellfish roll. But Hando medo isn't your usual sushi/roll place. You pick your key ingredients, and they make the roll for you. The price is fair and if you love Leechi...get the Japanese Soda!
Had a pretty good dinner with friends! Got the standard four rolls. Pretty fun experience, but not necessarily the best sushi I’ve ever had
Quick, efficient, delicious hand rolls.
But teeny-tiny. ~20$ for 4 rolls half the size of a normal roll isn't the best deal- though were 4 incredibly delicious rolls.
Had around 4 rolls. Such good sushi, the nori and the fish tasted quality.
Quality ingredients, simple yet unique experience and process, nice environment! Excellent service and food. I will definitely continue to return here and introduce Hando Medo to more friends!!
