Had an absolutely amazing time here. From the extremely friendly greeting, prompt seating, attentive and professional waitstaff, and beautiful setting, this was an outstanding atmosphere to dine. The drinks were perfect, food was full of flavor, and the dessert (strawberry pie) had a flaky crust! Highly recommend this restaurant!

We had a great time at The Smith. Nice decor and the servers we're friendly. The clams and steak were delicious. The pancakes moist and flushy. They have outside and inside seating. Highly recommend visiting!

Delicious! Service was mediocre. They weren't very busy but our server wasn't around much. I would definitely return though and recommend to others. We were on a girl's labor day weekend and everyone really enjoyed their meals. I shared chips with blue cheese fondue, eggplant with whipped ricotta, a burger, and side of spinach with my sister. Everything was yummy!

The service was a bit slow considering the amount of staff and the limited seated table. The brunch menu could use more items, but were good especially the oysters and the steak were the highlight. Recommend!

I’ve walked past this place so many times and never got the chance to stop in but I’m so glad I did. The inside is so cute and the menu is awesome. There is so much variety and so many delicious options. I loved that the brunch items come with a drink so it makes the cost much more worth it! The food was delicious and the Bloody Mary was perfectly spicy. The food and drinks took a bit to come out but it was worth it. Definitely recommend this place!!

This is literally the best Mac and cheese I’ve ever had. The frozen happy hour drink with gin, Prosecco and lemon is absolutely amazing. I have to come back again for a dinner. The food is so amazing and the staff is extremely welcoming. Very happy I came here.

Had my first visit at The Smith the other day for my work Christmas party brunch. First of all, I'm sooo glad i found another place for brunches❤️ food is delicious and atmosphere is sooo nice and staff was just phenomenal ❤️ definitely recommend and will be going back for sure❤️ UPDATE: this place never stops to surprise me. During one one of my visits we had a small wait. Look, i love this place so it wasn't a big deal to wait.. But i did get bit annoyed.. As soon as the manager- Derek, noticed what was happening, we were immediately served with complimentary appetizer and at the end with the amazing dessert that was chosen by our server- Evander. Thank you both for caring❤️

I met a couple of friends here for a business brunch on a Sunday afternoon, and I was blown away. First and foremost, I’ll just begin by saying this is not the type of restaurant that you will want to “drive and park” if you eat here. Please, please, please save yourself time and a headache and take the train. Traffic and parking is horrendous in this area, especially on Sunday for brunch. I learned this the hard way, drive around the block 3 times before settling on a parking space on “S” street which was two blocks away from the restaurant. Although parking was a nightmare, the food was amazing and made up for it! It was cloudy and warm day, so they had the windows open, and it felt like we were sitting on the patio outside. It reminded me of how the businesses open their windows in the spring and summer in Boston. Super cool and nice! Our waitress, Porsche or Porscha, was amazing and knowledgeable! She was so friendly and personable! We all liked having her as our waitress, she was so on point and recommended several items for us to try. I started with the French 75 slushie, and it was wonderful! I usually order the French 75 on my own, so it was nice to see it as a cocktail on the menu. It was very refreshing! I loved it! Now, I will say, I read a few reviews before my visit and one of them raved about the fried chicken and Porsche recommended it too. So that’s what we ordered. Now, listen, there was enough chicken for two of us to share and it was hands down THE FREAKING BEST FRIED CHICKEN I’VE HAD IN A LONG TIME! I mean it was flavorful down to the bone with a nice kick! Most of the time all of the flavor is in the skin or the breader, but not this chicken! All of it, the skin/breader and the meat was full of flavor! I don’t eat fried chicken very often because, I’m not a big fan of it, and when I do eat it I have to be in the mood for it. Well, I’ll always be in the mood for this chicken. It was that DAMN GREAT! This chicken got me cuss’n 🤣😂 Anyway, my friend had the catfish BLT and lord have mercy Jesus! That catfish needs to be a platter (as suggested by my friend)! Best fish I’ve had in a while too! Seasoned to perfection! The jalapeño cheddar grits were ok, they needed just a little salt. If they’d had some salt they would’ve been on point. No super bad, but you could tell it was missing something. The buttermilk waffle was fantastic! The blueberry compote and citrus mascarpone (tasted like a orange dreamcicle). I was so satisfied with brunching here, that I would fight traffic and parking to eat here again! I cannot wait to come back!

There are two locations for The Smith in Washington. This was the one in the U Street corridor, a very active community section with many stores, restaurants and residences. The Smith is ideally situated among the hubbub and offers a wonderful respite from the surrounding activity. The restaurant decor is reminiscent of an older establishment from mid 20th century. Black and white tile floors, dark wood booths and tables with the curved back and round seat chairs. The bar is so inviting and usually every seat is taken. In summer the front wall of glass doors open and there is outside seating. We were there the day before Christmas with family. It was empty when we arrived but soon started to fill. Unlike other restaurants in the area The Smith was open even if the day before Christmas. It was joyfully but simply decorated. Nice. The menu is not large but offers a great selection of starters, sandwiches, sides and entrees. I had the Smith burger. Large and delicious with their signature sauce! And who doesn't like good french fries? They were fresh and hot. This location does not have parking The Smith is a good, reliable choice.

Very large restaurant. Cute contemporary styling. I came on a rainy afternoon and was fortunate enough to get a great outside seating under and onning. The food was cute and delicious. I had a basic delectable place of eggs, country potatoes, bacon on French toast. I really really wanted to try the chicken sausage; they were out. I loved the crispy bacon. The potatoes were beautiful but not heavily seasoned. The blandness required me to request salt/pepper and their spicy ketchup which I liked. The brunch was accompanied by a spirited beverage of your choice and I went Mimosa of course. Everything was perfection. I would definitely come to eat here again!
