Awesome Asian restaurant that lives up to the bib gourmand hype! Highlights were the fried chicken and stir fried noodles. The bao, fried guyere, and melon coconut dessert were all also tasty. Great vibes all around, highly recommend!

My wife and I were at dinner and she asked me what I thought was the “best” restaurant we’ve ever eaten at. I said, “that place we went to in DC”. We had to dig through our photos to find the name, and now I’m here writing this review. It’s been five years. Everything about this place was amazing! As much as we loved the food, I was so impressed with the staff! The young adults (were they kids? Maybe. But kids way more mature than I ever was) who ran the place were impressive and personable. Had a great time If you’re in DC, this is a must!

I'm a DC wedding photographer who photographed a wedding at Maketto in September '23. The atmosphere was delightful! The staff were quick, the facilities were clean, the space was versatile as well. They were able to serve over 100 guests quite readily. The courtyard is perfect for dancing and taking photos!

Dining at Maketto is delightful. The atmosphere is great and the service was excellent. Our server was super friendly and very attentive without hovering. The food was equally as good as the service. I loved the Lo Mein, it was so flavorful and delicious! Highly recommend if you're looking for a good spot on H Street!

This is an absolute hidden gem in DC! The best spicy cauliflower ever!! We had the spicy beef appetizer, veggie rolls, bone marrow dinner, nap platter where you get all the delicious ingredients and make your own. AND the most unique fried chicken I’ve ever had - their signature dish. Every ingredient and spice put into each meal was unique and unlike anything you’ve ever tasted. All the staff are so lovely and truly care about the quality of food and service. You should bring anyone you want to think outside the box and impress them. Oh and they have a special 5 spice honey latte that was very good

Everything is so good here! The restaurant has great ambiance and the service is good. We you the scallion pancakes and gyoza to start both were great but we really loved the scallion pancakes. We got the salmon, rice noodle, and tofu/basil entrees. All were so good. It was really fun to make lettuce wraps with the salmon. The tofu was really yummy.

I haven't eaten at Maketto in a few years. My daughter was in town for her 21st birthday and really wanted to eat here for lunch so we took her here for a late birthday lunch. Of course, all the food we ordered was still amazing, like how I remembered it. We went during lunchtime on a Tuesday. We were able to snag a table without having to reserve ahead of time and we didn't need to wait. Our server was good, attentive to our needs, etc even though all the tables looked full. Now to the best part..the food! Here's what we ordered: Pork steamed bao, soy milk and doughsticks, spicy cauliflower, spicy beef and rice bowl, num pang sandwich (almost like banh mi), coconut ice cream with melons and candy coated fennel seeds (I think this is seasonal) and mochi beignets. My favorite was the coconut ice cream with melons! And the cauliflower appetizer is the best cauliflower we've had anywhere. I have tried other meals previously including the Taiwanese fried chicken and Cambodian pho and enjoyed those as well. I have stopped by over the years ever since Maketto first opened, ordered the duck and ferments Thanksgiving dinner in the past which was amazing (I posted a picture of what I ordered..last picture), etc. Sometimes when restaurants have been around for awhile, they lose that spark from when they first open, but I would say Maketto is consistently good and I would eat here every week if I lived much closer!

I joined some colleagues on a rainy Friday night and found myself pleasantly surprised at how calm the atmosphere was. You could hear a gentle hum of conversation that never became more than white noise. All throughout the store, you'll see various non-food goods up for purchase like sneakers and music records. Makes for a quirky space full of little treasures that you may not otherwise find elsewhere. Of course, the food itself was amazing with several flavorful dishes from an East Asian & Southeast Asian palate. Of special note is the duck noodle bowl with just the right level of flavor in borh the broth & meat. The wings were good too. Our waiter came up to our table 3 times in 2 hours, but whenever one of us needed something, they were ready to appear within 5 minutes. Very receptive to our food questions too. If I had to search for a piece of constructive feedback, it would probably be to keep us hydrated a little more often while we're chugging caffeine and alcohol! But all in all, the experience was a local gem in the NE part of DC and a nice respite from the gloomy weather that evening!
