Proof

I've gone here pretty regularly over the last few years, and always had a great meal. Proof prided itself on its wines, charcuterie and cheeses, but it had a lot of other great dishes as well. The beer list was pretty short but always had one or two really good choices. There was usually some variation of gnocchi that was always excellent. And they had a fantastic sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Sadly, after many years of operation, they closed their doors forever after last night. Apparently, they've lost their lease. I don't think they were doing enough business to just find a new location, which is a shame.

Amazing food and wine selection! Checked this restaurant out on a whim and was not disappointed. The cheese and charcuterie paired with the wine selection was a real treat. Special thanks to our server Mike P who was very knowledgeable and helped steer us in the right direction with our selections.

We had mixed experiences here. Dessert and wine in the bar was wonderful. On a second visit we had a delicious appetizer but our pasta dishes were too salty and we left a lot of food on our plates and didn't choose to take it with us. However, the management was very responsive and reduced our bill and said they would ask the chef to taste the dishes.

Holy smokes, folks. If you drink wine, you have to stop here. The food is delectable and intelligent; the cheese and charcuterie options are top notch; the cocktails are stellar. But the wine cellar and its management are simply outstanding. Browse the telephone book of selections if you want...or just ask for a pairing, and prepare to be stunned. Went with a group of 8 last night and we all agreed that the sommelier here probably knows every detail about each of their thousands of bottles, down to the name of each vineyard manager’s pet dog or parrot. Just discussing wine with him made us feel like we’d visited the tasting rooms. Overall, had an incredible evening!

This place has the most amazing appetizers and I am posting this before it has arrived this is so good. Just got completed eating main course. Absolutely delicious. Steak, duck anything you choose will be delicious and amazingly prepared. Appealing to the eye, smell, and taste. Will return as soon as I come back to DC. Get the sticky dessert!!! Always remember this place. So amazing!

Amazing Wine Pairing! I was fortunate to be at Barbara's Birthday Celebration at Proof on December 28, 2017. Our table was ready on arrival, and the staff was welcoming and professional. the wait staff, the Sommelier, and the Chef did an amazing and complex menu of foods and pairings. Unlike a tasting, the wine selection (including a non-alcoholic sparkling apple cider) was varied and generous. The food creations were well planned, arrived right after the wine selection, and were marvelously crafted without excessive salting or pretentious service. I have been to Proof before, and confess that I was unaware of their kitchen prowess. They had a magnificent selection of cheeses, and a Hamon (unique aged ham from Serrano, Spain). The Chef and Sommelier made a great effort to craft foods that compliment the unique wines. I also asked the staff a few questions, as was pleased to see that they truly enjoyed their roles and knew the menu, background, and creation of the dishes. The ambient lighting at Proof is muted and warm - this gives the restaurant a pleasing feeling of intimacy. The custom woodwork in the restaurant is unique and warm as well, as the extensive shelving is a wonderful method for displaying the extensive variety of wines. Should you be bringing just a friend or a gathering of friends, planning ahead is recommended, and the staff will personalize the experience for special occasions (make sure you tell them). Proof also has an extensive menu for walk ins, and a small, well-planned, service bar with seating.Proof is not a discount eatery, but the experience is a unique and worthy value. I strongly suggest you communicate with the staff, and let them know of any food dislikes or nut allergies up front - they will accommodate you. Many of the food items are made in-house, and your feedback will help them refine the experience. I know they put forth a wonderful presentation for Barbara, and know your experience will be great too!
