We recently dined at a Oyamel Mexican restaurant that left a lasting impression. I like the vibrant atmosphere and colorful decor. The menu boasted a wide array of authentic dishes, especially tacos. We started with freshly made guacamole, prepared in the middle of restaurant with ripe avocados and zesty lime. The chips were crispy and freshly made, and the guacamole was a perfect balance of creamy and flavorful. For the main course, I opted for the tacos, and they did not disappoint. The beef was tender and juicy, complemented by the freshness of cilantro and onions. The restaurant’s margaritas were exceptional, we tried pomegranate margarita and it was strong with a tequila kick. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, providing recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. Portions were small, but enough for one person, not sharable size. The service is fast. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a taste of Mexico in a warm and inviting setting.

We dropped in for lunch on a Thursday and had self-seating at the bar with full menu available. Top marks all around! The bartender gave impressive service to us and those that arrived immediately afterwards, quickly filling the seats around us. While he had mistakenly entered two of one item in place of another we had ordered, the correction was quick and he let us keep the extra plate. We had a mix of small plates and loved them all. We especially enjoyed the sweet potato tamal - lots of good flavors with a smooth texture served atop a decorative corn husk.

We went here for my birthday as a surprise from my partner who had a flawless time setting up a reservation. All the food was really fresh and tasty, and even the guac is made out in the open. We ordered a variety of different dishes to share, and while pricey, you do get what you pay for and it was worth it. The vibe was very nice, it was very enjoyable to see many folks and families having a good time and enjoying themselves with good food and drinks.

We dined outside because that was the only reservation available. I am so glad we did since the weather was perfect, and the dining room was incredibly noisy. The food is good and attractively plated, but I recommend going for the freshly made guacamole and beer selection. A delightful restaurant.

I visited this place a few times throughout the summer and clearly after the first time, I couldn’t get enough! Regardless of whether you’re at the bar or at a table, you’re greeted with chips & salsa which is always a nice treat. I’ve tried everything from the salads, to the tacos, to the ceviche. I will definitely have to go back for the guacamole which is freshly made on the dining room floor. Special shoutout to my bartender/server Carlos! He was always so sweet and quick in service when I sat at the bar. My absolute favorites were the Caesar salad, ceviche with citrus (bass), a few of the tacos, and the tres leches! The few times I’ve gone, I’ve ordered a la cart and off a prefixed menu. Worth every penny.

Would give 10 stars if I could. The meal was delicious, the atmosphere is beautiful, and service is friendly and so wonderful. I HIGHLY recommend if you're looking for Mexican cuisine. We really loved how authentic they make everything as well. Just a wonderful dining experience all around!

This is one of the best Mexican food restaurants in the DC area. They have yet to disappoint me and every dish is just amazing. I was extremely impressed with the fish taco that I had. It was on the spicier side but had so much flavor I couldn't help but finish it quickly. My recommendations are to at least try some of thier tacos, some of their cocktail drinks, and finish the night off with the dessert called "JERICALLA DE CHOCOLATE CON MARACUYA".

Oyamel has a lovely space and wonderful staff! We started off with the guacamole that's made fresh and you can clearly taste when it's brought out (plus the women by the entrance making them). I was glad to see a vegetarian section though not a lot of vegan options which I'm sure you can ask to make vegan removing the dairy options (lots of cheese!). I grabbed their sweet potato tamale 🫔 and mushroom taco 🍄 🌮 and it was really good! I wouldn't come here if you're looking for something authentic but a good twist on modern Mexican food! I wouldn't mind going back to try new things!

We are a Belgian family that had just arrived in DC after a week in NYC. What a great experience this was! Feeling exhausted and finally having time for a real restaurant, we were welcomed by our waiter and the menu and setup was explained. We picked several dishes to share, sides and rice. That did not disappoint. The food and cocktails were perfect, very refined and fresh. This is the best meal we had on our trip and a great intro on mexican food. Only one negative aspect, in our country we spend much more time in a restaurant, so it would be considered rude to bring the bill that fast and check if the credit card is there. It is a cultural difference of course. A meal we will not soon forget!
