Jojo's Shave Ice

JoJo's had some of our favorite shave ice on our trip to Hawaii (we visited both Maui and Kauai). They make their own syrups with real fruit, and you can really tell the difference. We tried their #1 top seller which is the Tropical Breeze. It features guava, lilikoi and mango over macadamia nut ice cream, and topped with homemade haupia cream. We got the smaller size, da kine, which was still really big and perfect for sharing with another person! The flavors were excellent, the texture was dreamy, and it was an absolutely refreshing afternoon treat on a very hot day. I still crave this shave ice and hope to enjoy it again in the future on another visit to this beautiful island!

This place gets recommended quite a bit- likely because there are several and because it's been around for years! I will say that we did enjoy it, but it wasn't the best we've ever had. They almost make the ice too tall, so all of the flavors tend to move to the bottom and the top is left icy and not very flavorful. The texture of the ice is pretty soft, but still has a little crunch left. The syrups they use are good but can get annoying as you get toward the bottom of your bowl. I would say they are slightly above average! But after tasting Wailua Shave Ice today, I can confidently say that JoJo's, while good, is certainly not the best on the island!
