Ever since I moved here people have been telling time, "you have to go to schmaltz and get a schmaltz sandwich!!" So today I went and it was incredible. I'm personally not a big sandwich guy, but this was incredibly delicious and surprisingly very filling! And the bread they use is out of this world yummy especially with the garlic butter. Idk if its homemade or not but my gosh it was good! The potato salad is also good and they make their own tea!! It's cheap and it's located downtown so it doesn't get much better and they have their own small parking lot! Definitely go give this place a chance in your lunch rotation!!

On September 1 of this year, I will have lived in Waco for 31 years. I’ve been eating at Schmaltz ever since I arrived. I probably eat there 20 times a year. And I typically have the same thing. That great, big chef salad. 20 salads / year x 31 years = 620 salads. So You might say That Schmaltz is a considerable source of fiber in my diet. Thanks for keeping me regular, Nelson.

Service has really went down. I called in an order and waited at the "phone order" sign/register for 10 mins. Every worker just looked at me never acknowledging me as they walked by. I finally got the attention of one of the workers asking about my order. She stated "oh yes, you have been here a while but she's doing everything. (Girl at the register who refused to look at me.) Just jump ahead in line. Those signs don't mean anything." 😐 The sandwiches are also not what they use to be. Very disappointed.

Good old fashioned, big city style deli. Serviice friendly, but no time for slow customers during the big rush. Highly recommend. The fresh-baked is great and the fillings are generous.

Never been here before. Decided to give it a try since my friend is a regular there. The place is ok nice well put together. Older sandwich place you can tell they have been there a while.. The tuna sandwich I had was great could of had more tuna in it less lettuce. My tina was just a spreed of Tuna for $8.50 plus tax😞 I expected more tuna not all that lettuce, but the wheat bread was deliciously made. The parking is HORRIBLE. Little to NO parking at this place. Other than the parking & just getting a spreed of Tuna I would of gave them a 5 🌟..

Google listed 4 pm as a closing time for this establishment, FYI: not correct it is 3. We walked in at 2:45 and the guy at the register seemed bothered, unfriendly and not welcoming at all and to add injury to insult he had big over the ear headphones on while I was giving him my order. It was my first time here so I had no idea what to get so I was looking at the menu which seemed to irritate him. I settled on the pastrami and water, my guest had the pastrami with cream of potato soup and a drink. Food is expensive, $28 was our bill. The pastrami was deli meat.. Save yourself some money and get yourself a pound of pastrami from your deli, some Swiss cheese, hamburger bun and toss it in the microwave you'll have the same sandwich. We sat down and the guy from behind the counter with his headphones on began slamming chairs on top of each other when 2 people came in and he told them they were closed and that they closed at 3. This business needs to reflect the correct closing time on Google. 2 stars for the soup and for the polite lady that served us our food.

We stopped here for lunch on our way from Dallas to Austin and it was delicious. Good food, well priced, friendly service. I'm sure we'll be back if we get the chance!
