Wow! Amazing tamales! My wife and I were in the Yakima valley area over Labor Day weekend for a wine tasting adventure. We both love Mexican food and I did some research. All the reviews on this place were awesome so we decided to try it.
The asparagus and cheese tamales were outstanding and the pork tamales were awesome as well. I normally don't crave tamales when I go out for Mexican, I'm more of a burrito guy, but this place is special.
The flavor is incredible, it melts in your mouth and makes you want to eat more and come back for more. Anyone driving through the area must stop here! It's well worth the stop.
Excellent!!!!
Amazing! They lived up to the hype and then some. If the asparagus tamales is in season, they are a must. Well worth the drive.
Looks like a hole in the wall but great tamales. Plenty of parking and some seating if you wanted to dine in.
Pork and chicken were excellent. Jalapeño was so so. Just jalapeños mixed into the cornmeal. The tomatillo salsa was also great.
As mentioned in other reviews, portions were small so plan on getting a few extra tamales.
We got there just before noon as the tamales were coming out of the steamer so they were fresh and moist.
Both the chicken and pork tamales were delicious. The serving size for one is small. To feel filled, you'll need to have 3-4 pieces. Do order the salsa to accompany with the tamales. They only have one vegeterian or vegan option and they had run out of it sooner on that day (by 4pm). So call in ahead of time if you're planning to have veg tamales.
Plenty of parking nearby. Limited indoor seating but most orders are to-go afaict.
The restaurant history and reviews might make you have unrealistically high expectations that the tamales may be out of the world or something. It's not like that but still they are very tasty.
You will not find a better tamale on this planet than Los Hernandez. We drive 3.5 hours one way to get these tamales. They are very authentic and fresh. The pork tamales are spicy, but not so spicy hot to burn your mouth. They aren't dry either and they don't fall apart when you unwrap them. Even heated up later they are still excellent. We've been to both locations, but prefer the original since that's where I first had them. All the folks who work there are genuinely friendly and happy to see you. Tamales is all they make, so don't go in expecting tacos or burritos also. The asparagus tamales are amazing and this is coming from someone who does not like asparagus, but you can only get those during the asparagus harvest. The jalapeno and cheese are rad too, not crazy spicy but you taste the fresh jalapeno pepper. Make sure you get some to take home and eat later. You'll regret it if you don't.
Tried all three varieties that were available: chicken, pork and asparagus. They did not disappoint, extremely delicious. I really enjoyed the asparagus and pepper jack tamales. I tried all of them with the green salsa. Washed them down with a glass bottle of coke. Worth the stop!
Best tamales in WA hands down. You won't find a better one outside of the southwest.

Surprisingly great Mexican food in a low key restaurant, as the name indicates - it serves mostly tamale with choice of pork, chicken, and asparagus & cheese. Tamale plates are served with Spanish rice and beans - they are so yummy! Even better with friendly service and easy on your wallet. It has some indoor and outdoor seatings.
Current seasonal asparagus and pepper jack cheese tamales were incredible. Pork was good too, not the best I've ever had but really really delicious. Didn't get to try the chicken, they were out. Friendly, helpful service.
The asparagus tamales are definitely a must try. I will admit, the portions are not up to par for the prices. Salsa is also charged separately. This establishment has a James Beard award, check it out and see for yourself.
