Two friends and myself went for lunch last Thursday, all of us for the first time. We each tried a bit of each other’s meals, and EVERYTHING was so good, right down to the sweet tea! The A/C wasn’t working quite up to snuff (not their fault), so they brought out fans for us in the dining room, to cool us off. We will definitely be back for more. Can’t wait to try their breakfast. Thank you, Wanda J’s!

We had the catfish and liver and onions dinners. The catfish was seasoned well and fried hard. They give you two whole filets which was more than enough. It’s hard to find liver and onions anymore, and even harder to find it cooked right. Wanda J’s knows what they’re doing. Reminds me of eating it as a kid! The serving sizes are generous. The two diners with drinks came in at $30 and we had leftovers to take.

Our lunch at this Southern Food Restaurant was wonderful. The food was absolutely delicious! I chose the Catfish lunch with two sides, cornbread and ice tea. Every bite reminded me of the home cooking that I grew up with. I DEFINITELY will dine here again when in the area. Custom Service was great too.

Super good. I had the catfish plate and country fried steak plate. I like how even on the potato they don’t cheap out on the gravy. The catfish is beautifully fried to perfection. Portions are generous and prices are more than fair. Everyone inside is hard working and friendly. I really like the vibe inside. Every time I come to T town I have to stop by.

The service here was very good 👍! We felt like we were talking to a cousin or someone related to us. And being from out of town, it was nice to have that type of service. The food was good. I personally had the grilled 🥩 with mac and cheese and fried 🌽 on the cob. My wife had liver and onions, fried cat fish, greens, mashed 🥔 and gravy. She said the liver and onions was great! Everything else was ok. My pork was a little dry. But it was seasoned well. All in all, a good experience.

I went to a local shop on Black Wall Street and asked for food recommendations. They recommended Wanda J's and their recommendation did not disappoint. The workers are so nice and accommodating. I was able to have a light conversation with my server as well as get recommendations for other things in town. It was very sweet of her to take the time to talk to me. The food is good too! There are options for everyone. I got a basic meal of chicken tenders, fries, mashed potatoes and corn bread. The food was very tasty and was a good portion. I highly recommend anything with mashed potatoes and corn bread as your side. One thing to keep in mind is that the location is small. So make sure to give yourself enough time if you go at a regular dining time just in case it's busy. They do carry out too if you'd like to take it back to your hotel/home.

The food is a 12 out of 10 if you like comfort food. I had the two piece chicken dinner and was able to pick which pieces of chicken I wanted. Two breasts were $1 more. Dinners come with two sides and either a dinner roll or cornbread. The cornbread had a great flavor but was a little dry. The dinner roll was wonderful and obviously homemade. I had mashed potatoes, also homemade. The fried cabbage was just like my mother made over 50 years ago. The fried chicken was crispy and tender. Absolutely perfection. Our server, Glorie, was a sweet, attentive young lady. They offer daily specials. Smothered pork chops was the special the day we were there and they were heavenly, flavorful and tender. We are coming back and bringing our 94 yr old mother-in-law because she will love it I’m sure!

Chicken fried steak is the best in Tulsa! My husband had the grilled pork chops and really like them. We had mustard greens, fried okra, sweet potato casserole and fried cabbage, all the sides were perfect. The cornbread was so good and unusual it was sweet and like a corn cake. The service was fantastic. Seating was limited and the restaurant was spotless. We will definitely be back!

I wandered in after a rainy July morning and had the tastiest veggie plate for $9. I haven’t had cabbage this good since grandma’s house!

My partner and I FINALLY tried Wanda J’s after living in downtown Tulsa for a year and let me tell you… IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I had a craving for fried chicken and we decided to give this a try. I had the 2 piece fried chicken breast meal with mustard greens and candied yams on the side. I also chose the cornbread. Everything had flavor and the chicken was perfectly crispy and tender! The candied yams were sweet and tasty and the greens took me back to childhood memories! My partner ordered the special of the day, the beef tips and he loved it! We also got a side of fried okra. Overall everything was delicious, the service was phenomenal and we loved our experience. We’ll definitely be back.

Sometimes when you go to a restaurant it’s about more than having a meal. So as my experience at Wanda J’s Next Generation soul food restaurant. Wanda J’s is located in the historic Greenwood District in Tulsa. Of course, this was the site of the Tulsa race massacre a century ago. As you approach the restaurant there are plaques in the sidewalk identifying countless businesses that were destroyed during the massacre. Then you arrive at Wanda J’s. A tiny building with big flavor. We tried chicken wings, pork chops with green beans, pinto beans and of course Mac and cheese. They were all delicious. The wings were only dusted with flour so they were relatively light and not greasy. The green beans had that tell tale flavor of pork making them tasty but probably not as lo cal as you might think. Overall we enjoyed the food and the sense of history.
