Solid Grindz Restaurant

Representing Hawaii right here! My wife and I just relocated from the island of Kauai, Hawaii and I've been craving for some good local grinds. I previously went to another establishment touting to be "Hawaiian" food, but was sorely disappointed. I won't mention names here, but you can look at my past reviews and see! A tried and true local Hawaiian dish is the Spam Musubi. It isn't simply putting a piece of fried spam on some rice and wrapping it in nori. Real musubi is marinated in a sweet sauce and Solid Grindz gets the gold star for this because not only do they cook it in the sauce, but they provide a little cup with it on the side. This is a first for me and I loved it! Plus to get 3 for $5 is incredible. For me another true test of Hawaiian flavor is Kalbi. I normally don't eat Kalbi unless I cook it because I like more leaner cuts of meat, but I gave it a try and the flavor exploded in my mouth or as us locals like to say "broke da mouth!" haha My wife had the teriyaki chicken and it was delicious. I had to meet the owner and tell them how happy I was to find my new local restaurant here in Tucson and I found out that it is a husband and wife team along with an aunty that make up the management of Solid Grindz. Their philosophy is to keep it small and personal and I appreciate that. Because they get so busy during the week they don't serve loco mocos and only make it on Saturday, so it looks like we'll be making a visit this Saturday too! I was so excited to hear there was a Hawaiian restaurant nearby! Solid grindz did not disappoint! Their meats were delicious and moist and the Mac salad was amazing. I will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu. I'm especially excited for the poke. I will add more photos as I try more stuff!

Had this place about a month ago. I had the fried rice and it was incredibly good. My wife had some kind of fried chicken and that was also really good. I really want to go back to this place, however they close super early and haven’t been able to make it back. If they could just stay open for like an hour or two longer, then this place would be easier to return.

I did get any pics but my wife and I ordered the mixed plates and tried four different meats. Everything we had was delicious and very tasty. I would definitely go back again.

Location: On Craycroft close to Golf Links. Was the old Modern Peas building. Can't miss it, the building is green! The Skinny: Definitely go. Great Hawaiian Food that was fresh, tasty and moderately priced. The Restaurant: The restaurant used to be an Asian-style restaurant so remnants of its past were still present but don't let that fool you from the food. This is a fast-casual style where you order first at a counter then sit down and they bring your food. There is fountain drink control on the inside. I did not get to check out the restrooms to observe their cleanliness. Food: The food was excellent. We ordered a myriad of food including the Katsu, the pork, the chicken teriyaki and the wings. All was extremely fresh. I do wish the scoops of rice were slightly bigger but other than that, everything was excellent. Overall: It is a good place to eat, easy to find, prices were moderate and was visually clean. Should you go: Yes I would give it a shot. This place is nice to have as it competes with one of the well known Hawaiian places in town. Cost: For the Teriyaki chicken, pork, katsu, wings and three drinks, it came out to about $36. Tip: Get the Katsu, that one was my favorite Kids: We loved the Chicken Teriyaki!
