My first experience with Maynards was top-notch! Attended a Christmas party hosted and catered by Maynards. I highly recommend this place, and I'm looking forward to going back for a regular meal. The food was seriously amazing! The meat was cooked perfectly with just the right flavors. The potatoes were to die for! And the dressing on the said, O. M. G. The venue was perfect and the staff were wonderful! Please check out Maynards for yourself! They have a Christmas Eve menu that sounds amazing! Sorry, no food pics because after the first bite I was in heaven!
This place was absolutely divine ❤️ from the ice cold glass bottle of water at the start to the decadent tres leches dessert to finish, this place is by far a show stopper. The old historic train depot makes for a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy a meal. The menu shifts often but the salmon dish and the short rib dishes we chose were delicious to say the least. Elegantly plated food with prim and proper service made for a very memorable night.
We will definitely be visiting again!
Great attention to detail and all that went with it. Did the tasting menu. The short Rib and the apple tart were our favorite. Presentation of each dish was outstanding. Sorry fot not getting pics of the lamb stew or the tart. They were amazing.
I was absolutely impressed having dinner at Maynard’s…the atmosphere was quaint & chill. I ordered the Corvina Sea Bass & it was incredibly delicious. Highly recommend. My friend had the Forbeas Meat Company Ribeye & it was on point. Their Potatoes au Gratin was my favorite.
IMHO this is the best restaurant in Tucson right now. The train station setting very romantic, the staff very professional and friendly and the food outstanding. The menu changes frequently however it can be assured that the oyster mushrooms with caramelized whey and salsa Matcha Will be on the menu, do not miss it. The beef tartare was great As was the duck comfy with dirty rice.
Just some of the best food we've had in Tucson! First I'll start with the decor and location. It's located at the Amtrak station building and is a very unique restaurant. Walking in you notice it's not a very large restaurant but is very quaint. The bar area to the right and down below via steps is the dining area. Old style like the Old Pueblo but stunning and beautiful as you'll see in the pictures. Our wait staff was John and he was an outstanding waiter, very personable. The rest of the wait staff was also friendly.
Now for the food and drink. I ordered the Maynards Old Fashioned and it was one of the best I've had. Maynard's menu is seasonal so what you see today you might not see next month because this restaurant uses local/regional meats and produce. Yesterday Chef Brian Smith knocked it out of the park! We ordered the $75 per person course which is a 6-course meal with a dessert at the end. You'll see a 7th in my photos because we were celebrating my wife's birthday. She didn't like the churro dessert because the creme fraiche was too smoky but I thought it was fabulous (I like smokey food). You don't really know what you're getting as it's chef prepared and changes from day to day. I won't explain each course but when you look through the pictures you'll see how wonderful each dish looks and tastes even better. Our favorite was the steak course and the heirloom tomato course but everything was wonderful and we don't think it could have been any better. We'll be back for sure to try another round. Thanks Chef!
Amazing spot for a nice dinner. We got the tasting menu with the pairings and the food was fantastic. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and the aesthetic was very cute
Fantastic restaurant housed in an old Train terminal. The meals were the right portions, delicious, creative and healthy. The tasting menu gives an excellent representation of the menu. Service is equally top notch.
Delicious food and drinks, chic location, my daughter and I loved it. Our waitress Emma was professional but also personable. We live in Denver, so while I'm not sure if and when we will ever be back in Tucson, we'll definitely revisit Maynards if we are!
We sat on the patio on a Saturday night. Ambience was great, plenty of space between tables, and a couple trains went by. The food was absolutely delicious. Very interesting combinations. They also did a nice job accommodating our food allergies.
What a charming, beautiful place. Our server was knowledgeable and very kind, despite them being understaffed. The food was excellent and I really appreciated the attention and care that went into every dish. Will definitely be back!
Excellent meeting place in a historic setting. Very family oriented. Meet me at Maynard's on Monday's is wonderful for all age groups.
I've been coming back for over 25 years
Maynards is consists of two dining options. Fine dining and the Market with a bar/cafe style with open seating. Both share outdoor seating that is right along the train tracks. Yes, the train can be noisy and will force your conversation to stop, but that is part of the charm! You pay before you sit which adds to the nice vibe, but allows you to leave at will.
The Market's Charcuterie board was a-la-carte and had several meats, cheeses, veggies, nuts, various spreads, and two types of bread. Cheeses and prosciutto were fantastic. Every item was delicious and would gladly order them again.
Their selection included alcohol, but also non-alcoholic drinks such as ginger beer, chai tea, and coffee.
Servers were very kind.
Housed in the historic district's train station, Maynard's is a standout for its appealing location and dimensional menu. Part of the Hotel Congress, which is directly across the street, the restaurant has smooth service from hostess stand to table, with the feel that the waitstaff are doing this as a career, not a side job. The mains were well prepared (salmon with sourdough spaetzle and beets and porkbelly with grits and kale), and the house-made focaccia was an unexpected star of the show. The only minor criticism would be for the staff to slow down the pacing of the meal and dish removal a bit, so courses don't arrive in quick succession and plates aren't cleared the minute the fork drops. Perfect place to enjoy a romantic evening or entertain guests.
4th visit to Maynard's and a 5th is in my future. You will not walk away from here for less than $100 a person if you are doing it correctly. And the staff and the chef are well worth the price. Portions are not large. They are more Euro sized but the flavor and time taken to make these dishes is unapparelled in Tucson (I would argue AZ).
It's busy. It's always busy during Gem Show week so if you don't have a reservation, don't even try. We did, we knew better and were sat within 5 mins.
Drinks. Ohh lord the drinks. There was a gin drink that used an IPA foam that I am still dreaming about 5 days later. It blew my mind. Completely unreal. Wine list is extensive and quality is amazing. You will pay for it, but again, this is a special place to come- not an everyday visit.
There was a $75 tasting menu that we almost did but order a la carte. I wont go on and on about how good it is but anyplace that I feel comfortable to eat steak tar tar is a quality establishment.
Coffee to finish the evening or perhaps a nice Port (wonderful selection and GENEROUS pours) with some ice-cream is a dream.
The menu is very small and I hear that it rotates so what is recommended may not be available when you go. I had the prime rib which was ok. Not the worst but for $40 I expected better. Wife had the pasta which was also ok. Tried the flourless chocolate cake. It was ok. Needs more flour. Nothing was knock your socks off except the service. Service was excellent. Over all 4 out of 10. Would recommend for service alone and already being in downtown but likely won’t be returning.
