Black Rabbit Restaurant

My Wife and I were up early making our way to Trillium Lake and needed a stop for breakfast. We did a quick Yelp Search and came across the highest rated restaurant in Troutdale. From the outside the place is beautiful like something out of the old west. The entry to the restaurant is striking, rocking chairs in the front just awesome. The hostess was extremely friendly as was the rest of the staff. The dining area was just as cool with the old time booths and tables along with the old time lighting. We didn't realize this restaurant was part of the McMenamins brand, which is a big deal around Oregon. They have a gift shop with anything and everything you may have forgotten on your way. Food we ordered Caramel Apple Waffle: Wow this thing is HUGE. TONS of bacon crisp apples and amazing sourdough Waffle this is a must get. Make your own Omelet Great vegetable Omelet with fresh vegetables and amazing homestyle potatoes Chai Latte: Really delicious surprising to find a good chai in this location Coffee: Nothing to call home about, it was hot but nothing special. The Menu isn't extensive but they have enough of a variety you can really get what you want. Prices are a bit expensive but the service was fantastic with great recommendations from the waitstaff. The ambiance and hotel grounds are reason enough to make the staff, the good food is just a bonus.

Charcuterie board was amazing, drinks were great, although they took an extra vlong time to get to us. Chopped House salad was crisp and tasty with a lightly flavored vinegrette, just wonderful on a spring evening. The other appetizer & entree seemed inspired but didn't finish great; the poutine tots weren't actually poutine tots, just melted cheese sauce on tots, the rabbit ravioli sounded fanatic, but had such a heavy cheesy mushroom cream sauce that no distinct flavor came through at all, just heavy... broccolini was so heavily seasoned that I could only eat the stems. The sampler of desserts were good but not up to part for the McMenamins great I expected. I think the lack of "flavor" in the specialty dishes and the extreme wait for drinks will make this the last time we eat at the Rabbit... We'll be back for the outdoor drinks & menus, but take a pass on the "upscale" indoor dining option.

We were left waiting for nearly an hour. Parties of 4 and 5 that came in around 15 minutes after use were getting entire breakfast platters in under 20 mins. All that our 2 person party ordered was avocado toast, hashbrowns, a fruit cup and a fruit parfait. We had to call over a waiter from the section next to ours in order to get our food at all. When it did come the hashbrowns were swimming in grease and the fruit in the parfait was looking rough after being left out so long. The best thing about the meal was avocado toast and a glass of orange juice. TL;DR - Service and product weren't worth the cost.

Hadn't been to Black Rabbit in ages and my husband and I decided to go there for dinner. Got reservations pretty easily. The menu is eclectic and minimal. I would have liked to see more seafood & steak options. There was only 1 of each. We started with the bread and fondue and found the bread very bland and tasteless and the fondue the same. Once you've had Gustav's fondue it's hard to beat! We told the waitress and she removed it from our table and bill. Very nice of her. Although our waitress was on top of everything the food was lacking. Next was they're basic salad. Greens didn't seem fresh. They were not crunchy but the amount of walnuts was overwhelming and when half way through my salad I bit into a walnut shell and almost broke my crown I was not pleased! The main entree of ravioli was good but not worth coming back for. Although the Power Station at McMenamins offers more casual dining the Black Rabbit doesn't offer enough variety.

I would have ordered the rib eye but the size wasn't even mentioned and for the price, risky. So, tried the 9 dollar burger for 18 bucks. Burger was good but not that good, bacon really hard. The staff was really nice and friendly and the orders correct. Tried the High Kick for desert. It was good. Took growlers to be filled and they refused because of the pandemic, but they are willing to sell us new growlers to be filled. SERIOUSLY? You always machine rinse first and you have no problems with touching my cash. So, I'm suppose to keep buying growlers? Defeats the purpose of being more enviromentaly responsible by re-using.

It was great, but not exceptional. I used to live in Oregon about 20 years ago and am very much aware of McMenamins in the Pacific Northwest. An old friend and I both happened to be in Oregon at the same time, so we decided to get together for a beer and burger. We came at 6:30 pm and the place was not all that busy. I’d estimate about a third of capacity. We were seated, but after 10 minutes of waiting we still had not been greeted by our server. I got up and told another server that we were ready to order and she said she would send a server right over. Another 5 minutes pass and still no server. As I got up, our server took notice and came over right away. She took our order and apologized for the delay. Our burgers came before the beers. I would have been nice to drink a little beer while I chatted with my old friend while we waited for our order. The food was great, and the wait not too long for the burgers. As we ate and chatted, we drank our beers and were looking for our server for another round. We eventually found her and she brought them out right away. However, when it came time to pay the bill, our server was once again elusive. This time my friend got up to search for our server. We paid the bill, but while we were paying, my friend asked if we could take our drinks outside and order additional drinks as we were going to go smoke a few cigars. She didn’t know the answer, so we left to enjoy our cigars without any drinks. Long story short, great food, great atmosphere, but lousy service. If we would have had more attentive service, it would have been an exceptional time.

Flavorless fish practically a stew when they served it with at least a cup of oil. So gross. Desert was lame too. How do you mess up desert!? Server was super nice, and the wine was good. I will never order another entree from here again. It is so not worth the price. Appetizers are usually very good, though. I knew not to order an entree, but was tired and thought it would be okay.
