I normally don't share photos of food but...this is the Taylor Cafe at 101 Main Street in Taylor. In the 1870's a fire destroyed every building in down town Taylor except this one building. It is pretty much a old time bar that happens to sell renowned BBQ. We had fun visiting with some of the regulars and owner of the place. The old man must be in his 90's and still wears his cook apron. He sits by the front door and welcomes people when they come in. As we were leaving I wanted to snap his photo but he was napping by then. Only in Texas.

Well my grandparents and mom n dad used to bring me here she I was a young man and back then it was really good. Now the picture you see looked very good but as for the taste and I hate to say it but it really sucked from the meat to beans, potato salad, sauce it was all off or just didn't taste good at all. Then when we got there I felt like I was in a movie had all these bikers and they had one side on the place taken up not that I was intimidated i still walked in there . I will say this I'll never eat here again and it just wasn't worth the drive. Sorry folks...

A hidden gem in Taylor almost under the viaduct and across from the train tracks. Don't pass up the turkey sausage. Very good. Be aware they do NOT take credit cards.

Great old school BBQ venue, loved the rustic atmosphere but the BBQ was decent but not on point in my book, however It was great to meet the owner, World War II Veteran, Vencil Mares.

This is a child hood memory with my Grandfather that still stands exactly the same as I Remembered. The sausage is my favorite it is drier than others. Potato salad and beans are perfect with ribs and sauce raw onion and pickles ofcourse. Really yummy and homey. My husband just surprised me with some sausage for lunch and it was lacking some salt on potatoes. The sausage seemed different. Wonder if they changed cook? I love this walk back in time. I recommend.

We were very fortunate that the bbq place we had planned to go to had a 40 minute wait, so we ended up here on the recommendation of a friendly local.  I ordered the 3 meat plate with ribs, sausage, and sliced beef, and it was all delicious.  The meal came with beans and potato salad.  The beans were the best I've had in my entire life! The prices here were great!  The lady waiting on us was very friendly and helpful.  After we commented how much we enjoyed the meal, the cook invited us out back to see the bbq pit, followed by a quick visit with the owner, a WWII vet who started the restaurant back in the 40s.  This turned our visit into more of an event instead of a meal.  You really can't beat the food and the hospitality. I'll definitely come again the next time I'm in town.

This was a great "old country" BBQ experience. The building is tucked around a gravel road, a big bridge, and a rail road track.. so cool. This place seemed to be accustom to regulars and I was not sure what to do when I walked in. Right after I had a seat I was greeted warmly. The menu is small but classic. Meat by the pound, sandwiches, and BBQ plates with only two sides, beans and potato salad. The potato salad is really good but the beans seemed bland. The brisket was lean and tender, the sausage was not greasy : ) and the the sauce was very authentic. Great REAL food. Over all this place was great and then on our way out we talked with the owner who is a World War Veteran. I loved this experience! Cash only and there is a pool table and they sell beer.

Good barbecue. My Grandma new the owner. I remember as a child going to this place in the 70s. Those were the good old days. Eating those sausages and crackers with a IBC Root Beer Soda. Thank You Taylor Cafe for the Many Good Memories I have to Cherish.
