My husband remembers eating here as a kid, and the quality has been continuously high. The fried oysters are fresh, very lightly battered, and just melt in your mouth. He tends to hold oysters from any other restaurant up to Lowery's gold standard. My flounder was very flavorful and perfectly broiled. They have added sweet potato fries to the menu, a welcome addition. Our hope is that Lowery's continue to serve the same wonderful food for years to come.

Oysters, oysters, oysters!. When you think about Tappahannock you think of those great oysters. When I order Tappahannock oysters on the west coast they cost a fortune.
First off don't expect a fancy, trendy restaurant. It looks a little dated and even a little messy. There is not much atmosphere here - but it's all about the great food here.
First off I am never a fan of buffets. The food has always been sitting out way too long and is stale. Half of our party ordered the buffet and I have to admit this was NOT the case here. The food was fresh and delicious. They had regional foods like spoon bread, hush puppies and even frog legs on the buffet. The price was down right cheap for all the food that was laid out.
The buffet ends with a huge collection of fresh homemade pies!
I started my meal with the local oyster stew. The stew was wonderful. I was packed full of oysters - way more than I expected. It was so darn good I wished I had ordered a bowl and not just a cup of this fantastic stew!
I then ordered the fried oysters. They were outstanding. Huge, perfectly breaded. They were not greasy.
Our service was friendly and felt more like you were eating in a friend's home than at a restaurant.
This is a real regional gem and I hope to go back again and again!
A visit on a Monday night football night. The fish was delicate, fresh, nicely seasoned. No probs here, I will return.
Family Tradition. We have been going to Lowerys for almost as long as they have been open! The food is always delicious and affordable. We also love the fishing well for children. What a wonderful place :)
Eating a soft shell crab sandwich is just fun -- like eating a big delicious bug.

Miss the oyster stew...alot!!! But overall a great facelift for Lowerys. Fried oysters look and taste like beautiful Pearl's, crab burger fresh and delightful. FF good, buttermilk pie is the finest.
Fried chicken was good , crab cakes were good. Service was good. I would prefer if they didn't have the TV on I constantly looked up at it.
Steamed shrimp was delicious. Hot, fresh and cooked perfectly. Staff was wonderful!
Omgoodness live the changes and the food is hit, fresh and so yummy. Loved the crab burger.

I got the seafood pasta and let me tell you, there was real chunks of crab that I could actually see and taste (I've had many dishes with crab that you couldn't taste or even see the crab so this dish was something special) there were also numerous, fair sized pieces of shrimp cooked perfectly and the baby scallops were delicious and numerous as well. I was so happy I got this, it was just amazing in every way outside of the seafood quantity. As an appetizer my party ordered the fried oysters which were fried to perfection and topped with a white sauce that was just absolutely lovely, steamed shrimp which was cooked perfectly and served with one of the best cocktail sauces I've ever tasted, and the bacon wrapped scallops which are wrapped in some of the best smoked bacon I've ever had. The bacon wasn't too thick and smokey and the scallops were delicate.
Now, my father in law didn't like his steak and from what I could tell it looked like a very gristly little cut but that was the only legit complaint of the whole meal.
I'd come here again for sure. One more thing I'd like to note is that the renovations of the front of the house, the main dining area, are SO beautiful and so on brand with the area!
Lowery's is worth your time to experience if you've never been for sure. I'd love to go again one day as well to try something different on their menu.
