Omi Sushi

Not a new diner at this place and it’s been great, but man tonight’s experience was bad. The service was slow, which was understandable for a Friday night, but the brown avocado is a no no to me. I asked that only the California rolls with brown avocado be removed from the bill, this seemed reasonable as we did not eat the rolls and the rest of our food was good. We were given an explanation that it’s normal for avocado to be brown and that they do not do refunds on food. It’s hard to want to come back here after what I feel was a small issue didn’t get resolved and was met with strong resistance. And please, people can TELL the difference between the color brown and the color green lol.

The people there are very nice, I’ll start off with that. I ordered 3 rolls and 1 piece of sushi for pick up. Mexican Roll: Very good. Crunchy California: I’ve had better from a market (Pete’s to be specific) and elsewhere. Avocado Roll: Yuck. Didn’t even finish it. The avocado wasn’t cut to order because it was black and brown over way too much of it-and it tasted like they sprinkled lemon juice or something similar on it to preserve it (which didn’t work). I understand it’s not practical to cut open a new avocado for every roll, but it was lunchtime and I was actually a little early to pick up my food and it was literally just an avocado roll, you should use fresh cut to order avocado in that case. I’m huge on not wasting food but I threw away the rest of it. It even burned my throat, which was not pleasant. Avocado is amazing on its own, how do you mess that up?! Tamago Sushi: This was pretty good. Not the best I’ve had but not the worst. I paid almost $30 for lunch and it was decidedly NOT worth it. I doubt I’ll ever go back. Maybe it was an off time or something, but I’m not willing to spend the money to find out. I’ll go elsewhere when I want my sushi fix.

Omi sushi is very good! I am a sushi fanatic. The restaurant is very clean and has a nice relaxing atmosphere. The staff is very kind and attentive. The Sushi Chef came out personally to check on us. miso soup was very good. The quality of sushi is excellent. Very fresh! We had a little of everything. Salmon and fatty tuna were absolutely delicious. Their rolls are very tasty as well. Iced green tea is steeped perfectly. It’s a little on the expensive side but you get what you pay for, and it was completely worth it!! We had a lot of leftovers to take home. They have very good teriyaki chicken too.

Omi is the best sushi DeKalb, hands down! I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered. Their other dishes are fantastic as well; I fell in love with their spicy yaki udon. Their atmosphere is clean and authentic, and their staff is wonderfully friendly. Yes, Omi is a little more expensive than other nearby options, but it's absolutely worth it.
