I visited The Spotlight Cafe on 31 OCT 2020 at about 1500. Worst BBQ chicken I have had in a while. The chicken was dry and didn’t have much flavor. From one business owner to another, I would not serve chicken like that regardless of the time of day. The Ribtips were cold and taste mediocre. I didn’t receive a receipt when I paid.

The absolute best smoked meats and BBQ in Starkville. The ribs have a deep, smoky flavor. They're tender and succulent. They're wonderfully moist. This is the kind of BBQ you get from along, low, loving smoke, not the sad mush you get at Lil Dooey or the burned, dry jerky at Petty's. The sauce is amazing. It's sweet and smokey with a hint of vinegary tang to compliment the sweetness and a very subtle undertone of spice. The beans are amazing. Sweet and spiced perfectly. And the smoked chicken is in that perfectly smoked place where it's juicy and soft but not overcooked. The pit master knows his trade well.
