My husband and I have never really done a lot of sushi, and weren't willing to dive in at just any sushi restaurant...but we heard this one was top notch and we were so impressed! It's hard to believe such a fabulous sushi place is in Stanwood! We tried 6 different rolls, an appetizer, the teriyaki, and the breaded chicken and all were delicious! Definitely worth the drive if you are out of town, and if you are in town lucky you!
Food was absolutely fresh. Full of flavor. And the waitstaff you won’t find a better group of people. We highly recommend it
This restaurant is a Stanwood gem. This was our first time here and the dining area was well decorated and packed with guests. Our waitress Ellie was so kind, attentive, and professional. The sake was chilled and delicious; we got the "nothingness" one. We got a California roll as an appetizer. We could taste the freshness of the ingredients and the premium soy sauce was a perfect addition. Our miso soup was hot and tasty. I got a combination plate of chicken Teriyaki and chicken katsu. It came with salad, rice, and gyoza. The Teriyaki sauce reminded me more of a tangy / vinegar Korean Barbecue sauce. I did not like it that much, but eating it with rice helped a lot. The katsu had a wonderful crispy crunch. Both chickens were very juicy and tender as well. The gyoza were so light, yet crispy and dense. Probably the best gyoza I've ever had in my life. My wife got the chicken yakisoba and loved it. The noodles were thick yet chewey, the chicken was sliced and moist, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly: not soggy, not too tough and the flavors blended perfectly. Overall, it was a great time and meal, though the tab was given to us before we could ask for dessert, so I'm not sure if they are serving any currently. Maybe next time we will be more courageous to ask ahead of time!
Had a wonderful dinner at Shima. The sushi was fresh, delicious and came out fast. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The seating was well spaced but limited to first come, first served so be ready for a wait if you arrive at a busier time. It is very much worth the wait.
A decent Japanese restaurant in the heart of Stanwood??? Yep its here. Shima is nothing fancy on the inside as far as experience and decor goes but the food is super legit
Quite good in fact. Serving all the expected Japanese food and drink, and with elegance. Everything comes out looking like a work of art. Heads turn when ever a dish is brought to a table. Nothing to complain about here.
Place is busy everyday at dinner time so that itself speaks volumes. Smaller place, no hard alcohol, great food.
We found this place in a local magazine and it has a fun little back story. The parents used to have restaurants in Seattle and developed all the connections to get the freshest fish. Fast forward one of the kids and their significant other take those connections to Stanwood and Shima was born. And the fish is indeed fresh, they had melt in your mouth Toro, lucky us! The inside is humble, the staff kind and efficient, they had a decent variety of rolls, it was nice to see more than one unagi choice, and not everything had salmon either, but they do lean a bit on shrimp tempura and crab mix, though I was able to find two great rolls that worked for me and there are two more I want to try so will be back! Also had a lovely unfiltered sake, not too sweet (there is only one).
I can’t believe how good this place is. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town. It’s super fresh, high quality and consistently good. The service was also excellent, although we’ve had the same person the few times we’ve been here. Kid friendly establishment with clean bathrooms and a decent number of tables for seating.
So excited there's a sushi place in Stanwood. Not only that but a good one. The sushi is so fresh and the gyōza was cooked perfectly. Everything about my experience at Shima was amazing. The food the staff and the atmosphere.
Great sushi. Great service. Restaurant was packed and food and drinks still came promptly.
A hidden gem! We came here during our local staycation from the city and were so pleased with the large, fresh cuts of sushi. Friendly service and located in an adorable, classic, authentic part of old town. There was no wait when we arrived at 430pm, but the wait did get up to 45 minutes as we were leaving and kitchen does take a little longer than average to bring out the food, but well worth the wait!
