Fresh And Savory Deli

Seriously, an Italian deli in Stafford?. This little town has surprised me with its Indian restaurants but an Italian deli too? Italian delis are not exactly commonplace in Houston, after all. I first discovered this place a few months ago when I was obsessed with finding a great Italian sub. The reviews were so good and the menu looked very promising so I had to try it. Now I'm p.o.'d this place has been here for almost 30 years and no one has ever told me about it. I’d be tempted to call it a well kept secret but it's so popular and so crowded during the short hours it's open it's obviously no secret.

The cramped dining room is packed during the lunch hour, most of the seating is at longer, communal tables, even the area where you stand in line to place an order barely allows two people to pass each other. A hard working kitchen staff labors in a tiny kitchen to turn out a lot of food including lots of take-out orders and most of what I’ve had has been very good - the hot Italiano on rosemary sour dough bread and a very credible Reuben among the sandwiches I've enjoyed. However I was not too pleased with a soup and sandwich special I tried one day with a spicy yam and peanut soup with half a muffaletta; the cup of soup turned out to be closer to two cups and it was pretty boring and not at all spicy and the olive salad on the muff was just a few coarsely chopped olives. I haven’t tried any of the pasta dishes so far but I will get to them.

The sandwiches here don’t rise to the level of excellence and inventiveness of, say, Local Foods in the Village or Revival Market in the Heights, but for Stafford, they’re outstanding.

Looks like a dive but serves up good food at a decent price. Mostly sandwiches and a couple of entrees. Good place for lunch if you are in the neighborhood - but not a destination restaurant. I highly recommend the muffelotta

Absolute favorite lunch restaurant! Fresh and Savory is authentic, unique and the service is warm-hearted. Go once and I'll guarantee you will not regret it, go twice and they might just remember your name and what you ordered. Consistent food and staff. Long life to F&S, I will be a continued customer ordering their delicious chicken wrap and pecan square dessert!

Friendly service with great-tasting food made with love. It feels great to support this awesome small business. You have to try their chicken breast! It's char-grilled to perfection and so flavorful Would love to have more ability to customize my orders while ordering online

My family comes here all the time and the owner knows us by name now! He's always warm and welcoming and if you come enough he will give you free stuff because he truly cares about the customers. Plus the food is amazing and I always come here for the Gyro!

Food with flavor. Local owned. Great atmosphere. Owner was working the counter. Really friendly presence. If you haven't tried this spot, do yourself a favor and check it out. Lots of variety on the menu.
