I belong to a group called "St Pete Foodies" and you get alot of really good (and some bad) reviews on great places to eat. Someone mentioned Ted's yesterday.. and I had a sudden need to go there. When the food is good enough that the mere mention of a name or dish invokes longings you are willing to drive for; well, to me that's some great food.
I've only been to Ted's once before.. only ever had the mullet and salmon. Got the same thing again. So good, don't wanna try anything else. Yet. Ordered 2 beers. Casey crought them and cold frosty mugs. Fish , so good I didn't even pay much attention to the sides. When I couldn't finish my meal, Casey our server, wrapped up my entire meal to go. I mean everything. Tomato, onion, pickel garnish, all condiments, then did the same for my husband. I tipped her 20%. When I got home and looked at the packing job... 20% didn't seem enough. This place opens 11:30 am. It was packed by 12. Alot of walkup traffic. alot of carryout. Watching this place work is like watching a well oiled machine. If you find the idea of sitting picnic tables offputting - order the food to go.. but order it. Personally, I find the casual atmospehere charming. It's a smokehouse. A clean, well run, really great food, smokehouse. Thanks Casey
I have tried to make the time to get to Ted Peters for the last couple of years and finally made it and absolutely was not disappointed. If you like smoked fish it doesn't get any better or any fresher. The portions are large and the dinner portion is a pound of fish so it's certainly enough for two. The only negative thing I saw was they charge 2 bucks for an extra plate and knife and fork which is stupid if you're paying 22 dollars for a fish dinner. Overall I highly recommend it and btw make sure and get the fish dip also....off the chain!
Excellent smoked fish done on site. Family owned. Fish spread is the best. Lunch specials are also good. If you don't like smoked fish, the burger is nice size! German potato salad is just like my MIL from Austria used to make. The best!
This place is a cherished relic. If you visit, seeing the smoke house is a must. Still smoking fish like it is 1960. Can purchase smoked fish of several local varieties, all super fresh. I get smoked mackeral to make fish spread and purchase German potato salad like my grandmother made. When you are good at something, stick with it. Oh yeah, there is dining with cold beer as well!
A St. Petersburg "must-visit" to get a sense of the flavor of our town. Cash only, but the food is excellent. Visitors and residents alike need to stop by this 50-year old, family-owned institution! While you are there, try the fish spread. To die for ;)
Busy little place! Remember: cash only! The smoked fish hut was interesting and the man was very informative. The smoked fish spread was sweeter than I remember, but worth the drive!
I’ve heard great things about this place for years and decided to finally give it a try. There is outside picnic tables that are under an awning and indoor seating. The menu is limited. We ordered the famous fish dip. It comes with crackers and Crystal hot sauce on the side. It was phenomenal! It was fresh and smoked to perfection. We enjoyed it so much that we got another one to go. If you share a plate of food, they charge you an extra $2
A local iconic eatery. Outstanding smoked fish and hamburgers. The German potato salad is delicious. One of my favorite restaurants! Cash only, but well worth it.
Fish is delicious. Sides are ready for a re imagining. I would prefer my potato salad without the bacon mixed in....
