First & Oak

An fabulous place to dine. Good and service are both top shelf. They have a five course tasting menu that is full of wonderful dishes. Everything we tried was flavorful and full of complex well balanced flavors. Staff is the perfect level of attentiveness. Knowledge about the wines they serve and do an amazing service.

Mostly positive ….. I really liked MOST of the food but the steak was a HUGE miss and cannot be overlooked. At 56 dollars- it should be a crime to serve a 7 ounce fatty steak cut in pieces. I never complain about food and I didn’t. I paid for it and let the server know, but she didn’t care- it’s fine. I say go for the experience- skip the steak. Our dinner was close to 300 for 2 with 3 glasses of wine. They allow dogs and that’s a huge plus for us.

First and Oak is one of the finest restaurants in Solvang! The beauty of this restaurant is the small and warm feel. The service is excellent and welcoming. The host greets you immediately with a smile and the server is well versed in their menu. The exterior looks like a little cottage and the wood floors in the interior are very nostalgic of a time gone by. Their outdoor dining area is both functional and inviting. Not too many table allows it not to look cluttered and there are plenty of heat lamps to keep patrons warm. As nice as the facility is, the food is the spotlight. The fish of the day was delicious and perfectly flavored. Not too overbearing where the fish is not overwhelmed by spices rather complimented by them. The Scallops and pasta were also very tasty and well prepared. My only criticism is that a handful of green onions were just dropped over it as garnishment. Not bad but a bit lazy to flavor food with an overabundance of uncooked garnishes. Overall, First & Oak is a wonderful experience while in Solvang and well worth visiting more than once.

Delicious food! We started with the Roasted Cauliflower which has an interesting blend of flavors from the vinaigrette and the crispy bits (quinoa & almonds). For our mains, we ordered the Breast of Duck and the Wild Diver Scallops (fettuccine). The duck was perfectly cooked and the pasta was creamy and flavorful. Ended the meal with the tasty Chocolate & Honey mousse. Make sure to make a reservation!

Love their cozy indoor dining room. Service is spot on. Enjoyed the oysters to start and the wonderful fish dishes. The wine selection is lengthy and our waiter was happy to provide recommendations. I have dined outdoors here too and have enjoyed that too. The mealy was leis and proudly presented and most importantly fully enjoyed!
