Great burger and waffle fries. Nice place homestyle atmosphere. Could use some friendliness from the waitstaff. Maybe just an off day. I would definitely recommend the food though.
Excellent food! The Palace Burger is awesome. Even if you think you won't like Thousand Island dressing on a burger, trust me. You'll like it. The wait staff is very friendly and the food comes fast. We will stop in every time we go down 65.
We went back on our way home and it was still excellent. Even though they were very busy, we were still served fast and friendly. The ice cream is awesome!
Our waitress wasn't overly energetic but our food was very good and quick. The price was reasonable and there was a large selection of ice cream for dessert. I would definitely recommend the cow palace.
I had heard about from a family friend, so the wife and I rode out to give it a whirl. The inside was nice and cozy and walking in to the ice cream parlor was superb. We both had the tenderloin and fries with homeade slaw. Everything was very good. We ended dinner splitting a blackberry cobbler and homeade ice cream. The cobbler was good and the ice cream was fantastic. I cannot wait to go back for dessert.
I loved the food, the homemade ranch dressing was awesome and the potato wedges are to die for. The chicken strips were the best I ever had and nothing tops off the meal like a Oreo delight!!! Cow palace= super yummy!!!!! :)
If, for whatever reason, you find yourself in Shelbyville, this is a must!
Fun, quaint, and tenderloins the size of your head. My mom grew up in Indiana, so I never understood that breaded tenderloins the size of your head are an Indiana thing. Across the border in Ohio, our tenderloins, while occasionally breaded, are the size you might expect. The Cow Palace (formerly, I think, Compton's Cow Palace), has amazing tenderloins. My husband and I often split them. They're breakfast is also good, just the type of giant eggs and crispy bacon you'd expect. Additionally, they have great shakes and ice cream.
If you really enjoy the novelty of the tenderloins (as we do since we don't live in Indiana), you can call ahead and get your meal to go. If you're just traveling through, the Cow Palace is off of exit 114 on I-74, about a mile off the highway.
For 10 years, we've been stopping at the Cow Palace for some sort of meal on our way from Cincinnati to Chicago. There's just something to be said for an old-style, family owned, family restaurant - I suppose it qualifies a bit as a diner. Not everything has to be glamourous.
Oh, and it's shaped like a barn because what do cows live in? It's their cow palace!
We stopped for ice cream! Huge portions & fantastic prices! Superb service and exceptionally clean!
I drove from Beech Grove, IN just to get their black walnut ice cream. It did not disappoint me. It was worth the drive.
The ice cream was great and the service was even better! We had a lot of fun here and would suggest it to anyone looking for ice cream on a hot day!
Best hamburger meal I have had in a long time !
Great French Fries ! Super Milk Shake ! This place takes me back to my "Drive In Days"
We will be back !
The restaurant doubles as an ice cream parlor. The place was almost full still at 1:30 in the afternoon. I'd definitely classify the Cow Palace as quick, fair priced, and tasty dining. My wife ordered the small tenderloin, and I got the regular. The small sandwich serves a 4.5 oz loin and the regular is a 6oz. Our sandwiches were cooked to perfection! They were crispy on the outside and hot'n juicy on the inside. I asked for some pickle slices on the side and then threw them straight on the sandwich with a squirt of mustard for a little bit of acidity. The waffle fries were well seasoned and paired quite nicely with our hot sandwiches. The fish was fried very well. It was lightly battered and not too greasy. The Cow Palace is a cool little gem here in Shelbyville. I'll definitely be returning the next time I'm in town.
I love the food here, and you can't forget the amazing ice cream. I love going here with my friends and family.

The place is clean, not all employees are wearing masks but I’m okay with it since it makes it feel “normal”.
The ice cream selection is limited to 18 flavors. Sounds like a lot but in reality it isn’t.
Staff is friendly... a must visit
