Benton's Cafe

The cracker breaded fried catfish was the best I ever had. The freshly made tartar sauce went real well with it. My vegetables were very good also. Folks were friendly and the food came out very quickly. I was only out there in Shawnee for work, but it seemed like the waitresses in their knew almost everyone else by their first name.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked into this cafe. All I knew is I wanted something different than the same old fast food. As I stepped through their doors I was greeted by a friendly voice welcoming me and to choose wherever I wanted to sit. There was a small counter area, front room booth sitting and tables and booths toward the back of the room. Large, clean and lovely art decor greeted me. I didn't have to wait long before the waitress got my drink order and delivered the menu while telling me of the days special. Their sweet tea was delicious, the food was great but their menu needs to be redone as it has permanent market lined through items on the menu no longer being offered. The walking room was large enough for wheelchair accessibility without crowding on either side. Definitely will consider going back.

My husband and I ended up here on accident on our anniversary adventure. This is definitely a hometown local spot. We came on a Friday @ dinner time, moderately busy for just 1 cook and 1 waitress, (not just with dine in customers, but a bunvh of call ins as well)... and this is the reason Bentons is getting 5 stars from me... The two ladies running the dining area & kitchen did a great job in promptly taking our orders, getting our drinks, staying on top of keeping them full, food came out in less than 10 minutes, we were checked on, politely, through our dinner & dessert. GREAT service here. I had the Cheeseburger with a side of their home made Potato Salad which was great. Hubby had the Hamburger Steak with Mashed Potatoes, Pintos & house salad... The beans were a bit lacking for me but hey, for the low prices here, (we got 2 plates, drinks & deserts for $22) so what if the beans couldve used more seasoning. Id rate the food a 3 1/2 the PIE at a definite 5 and all around service & experience a 5 as well! We will definitely visit again.

Dined in with a special friend. Food is always consistently good. Love pork chop Tuesday's! I mentioned to a friend about eating there and they hadn't eaten there in years. You don't know what your are missing if you like down home cooking. The pies they make are fabulous. They have so many varieties and even sugar free. Service is great and it is served up fast so no reason to not go at lunch time. Plenty of parking in front and across the street.
