Wayside Inn

While waiting for my lady to finish an appointment at Shamokin hospital I was looking for a place to go and have a meal. Wayside Inn came up as one of the nearby restaurants and I realized that I have driven past it for years but never stopped in. I had heard from other folks that the food was good so there was no time like the present to give it a try. We were not disappointed! We both ordered varieties of their bbq sandwiches. Very good pork BBQ! The service was good and we will definitely be eating here again.

I typically have some sort of chicken when I visit the Wayside, this time around I got a shrimp flat bread and it was delicious! For many reasons our family loves the Wayside. My kids are super fans of their chicken tenders and hate any other kind. We even take them with us on vacation. Cheers! Southwestern chicken from another night.

The good: the waitress was awesome. Service was fast. Chili and broccoli slaw was good The bad: the rest of the food was terrible. Steak was tough, fries were soggy (I have no idea how you can make fries soggy but they can), pork was so-so. The ugly: the roast beef dinner was so bad, two of our party decided to send it back. Skip this place. But if you hear that the waitress is working someplace else, try that restaurant. If you stay, just order the chili and broccoli slaw (lol)

The last time I was here was in 1979 when it was not much more than a restaurant and small banquet facility. Today it is a sports bar with outside seating; practically unrecognizable. It definitely has a bar-feel to it, without losing its family-friendliness. The pictures on the wall indicate that this is Penn State and Philly sports country. We came for lunch, and were not disappointed with our sandwiches and generous portion of fries (for an upcharge). Prices were pretty reasonable. Our server was easy going and friendly. It would be fun to check this place out on a Friday or Saturday night to get a better sense of the local flavor, because I think this is where it's at.
