Visiting the Zanzibar was truly an experience. Tanisha's knowledge of the menu was excellent. There appeared to be a variety of food. We had a party of approximately 20. I felt they understood southern cuisine and the ambiance was welcoming. Very few mistakes on the orders and only a couple orders needed to be cooked longer. We will be returning.
Very nice atmosphere! I love the soul food selection!! Food is delicious!! My family and enjoy our dining experience there very much! My co workers even order dinner online for work.
Well I attended Zanzibar Saturday march 8 2014. No problems at all staff was pleasant server Marhosha (spell check) was awesome. It was my bday I had a party of 7 I made a reservation online 3 weeks prior and everything went smoothly. Food was awesome from the shrimp and Grits to the jerk chicken and barbecue salmon.
We enjoyed our dinner experience. My advice is to make a reservation. We did not have a reservation but the wait was not as long as they stated. Fried and blackened catfish was VERY good. We will be going again. Satisfied customer.
Gifted Dinner. Husband & I enjoyed discovering Zanzibar with a gift card our son & D-I-L sent us after their restaurant research online from home in NC. They know we like to try new tastes and appreciate good food. The experience from ease in online reservation for just two diners, through our evening's experience there could not have been better. Arrived 10 minutes early and were warmly greeted and quickly seated, Catfish finger & Shrimp over grits for my husband, Chicken & waffles after a side Caesar salad for me. Salad dressing was good though simply over romaine. Catfish fingers were outstanding as were my Chicken & Waffles. Tasted husband's Shrimp and grits and thought them delicious! Our experience was a delight. I sipped a generous glass of a tasty Cabernet and my husband a Malbec. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and will return! What a lovely gift from our family!
We were very disappointed with our favorite restaurant!. We went to Zanzibar Soul Fusion for an early dinner on Saturday night (6/15/13). We arrived very early, around 4:30 and were seated outside on the patio in Zanzibar's new location, which was previously Sergio's Sarava. It took our waitress, Sandra, a while to get to us. There were two other tables occupied on the patio and she had the whole section. We ordered appetizers: fried green tomatoes and Soul Rolls. Both arrived cold and obviously having sat in the window for a while as the lettuce was wilting under each dish. The tomatoes were greasy! We never got appetizer dishes and, instead had to eat off of the serving dishes. My cousin asked about a specific martini. Our waitress told us they didn't make that drink but that she would bring us martini menus. The martini menus never arrived, with Sandra missing her first chance to up our checks and her tip! We ordered and she never asked us what we wanted to drink, missing another chance to up our bottom lines. Our food was brought out by a different server. We both ordered the chicken and waffles, our favorite dish there. The waffles were raw in the middle and the chicken was gamy and overcooked (like it had sat and been reheated), as were the greens my cousin ordered a la carte. We mentioned the underdone waffles and over-done, old tasting chicken, and tough greens to Sandra and she said "okay" and walked away. The next time we saw her she was bringing our checks. Sandra never offered or tried to sell dessert to us; yet another time she could have up-sold us but didn't. Every time we finished our waters, we had to ask for refills which were slow in coming. All of this being said, we will go back to Zanzibar, because this is the first real problem we have had there. I must say that every other time we have gone (in their old location, next to the movie theater) the owner has been present and we know he could not have been there this past Saturday because he is a stickler for customer service and quality so this latest experience was a real shock! We know he was not present when we were there or these things would have been rectified, immediately! Is it because they have not settled in to the new location? Is there someone new in the kitchen? Does the staff need some retraining? All of these are possible reasons for the breakdown in service and quality but none of them are excuses!
Better than Expected. After reading a disliked review, I was a little skeptical in reserving a table. Well, 2 days ago I reserved a table for a party of 5 for today at 6pm. Upon entering the establishment, 3 of us were immediately seated and we got there at almost 6pm. The fourth party soon arrived 5 minutes later. Still no problems. We were not rushed, orders were taken in a timely fashion and food delivered in a timely fashion. The Server/Waitress was pleasant and accommodating. I must say I would recommend and go back again. The fried green tomatoes were very pleasing, Sweet Potatoes were not too sweet, Greens were just right, but the Mac and Cheese could have used a little more cheese. However, still very tasty.
Great Job!. When we arrived at Zanzibar at 6:30pm (the time of my reservation) I was asked to wait. I did not think anything of it, being a former server, I understood that sometimes I cannot be seated immediately based on how long the other guests take. Regardless, the manager sent a server over and offered to buy the 2 of us a drink and an appetizer, which I did not expect but is top class hospitality by the manager. They seated us within 20 minutes of the reservation, so we did not wait long. The server was professional and extremely accommodating, she was great (Sziarral was her name)! We got the Soul Rolls and the Shrimp and Grits for appetizers they both were prepared and cooked perfectly. Then I got the Chicken and Waffles and my friend got the Honey Glazed Fried Chicken. The breading on the chicken was crunchy and seasoned to perfection. The two side dishes I had were the Homemade Cheese Potatoes and the Wild Rice, again excellent! The portions were filling and the food was consistently good! Truly wonderful Soul and African Fusion food! From the management to the waitress to the food, the experience was nothing short of perfect!
The food is the best soul food I have ever tasted at any soul food restaurant. I love the fact that they don't put pork in their greens. Very, very, very delicious! Can't wait to bring my mom to try the food.
Good Food. Soul Roll=Delish
Salmon Croquettes=Delish
Service=Ok, could be better
Food was good enough to bring me back.
Got there after the kitchen closed and they opened it back up and cook for me and the family and the food was the best, better then last time. No need to ask for refills because they were given without asking and didn't rush us to leave. Great music and all. Momma, Blue, and Big Chef are ones you gotta meet. I'll be there again soon
In Cleveland for the weekend this is a must visit for a great soul food experience! Unfortunately on our Sunday visit it was carry out orders only. The restaurant was spacious and when open for dining the ambience would be on point with the delicious food! Everything I ordered was tasty and the mini cornbread was all that. I highly recommend!
Real nice atmosphere. It was very crowded. We took a seat at the bar to cut our wait time. The food was good. To much salt for my taste. My son didn't like the Mexican corn. The sauce for the fried green tomatoes was really good. I don't do spicy, but it really was good.
Went there for the first time last night and just wow. Service was great and food was just amazing. My boyfriend has the fried pork chops with baked mac and cheese and I had the honey glazed chicken with collard greens. Everything was delicious. We will definitely be going back soon.
A very lovely environment with excellent customer service. The food taste great. I had a salad and the soul roll. Delicious. To top it all off the cleanliness was very appreciated and always wore masks. Will definitely come back for the catfish as well
