I was born and raised in New Orleans and enjoyed beignets at Cafe du Monde and Morning Call, but the beignets at Mardi Gras Donuts are by far the BEST. Hot with a chewy crust and fluffy center and made to order, this place is an undiscovered local treasure. But it's old-school and unfancy. These beignets are "artisan" without claiming to be, and there's no "atmosphere" here - the place is an absolute dump. Though he's been (barely) in business these past few years, it looks like he could go out of business any day. Cash-only.
